Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 5:04pm medson:

@KM WOW. It’s barely 60Β° and it rains everyday here.
Avatar 5:05pm Kitschy Mama:

Medson, yeah crazy hot and wild storms this week.
Avatar 5:06pm Kitschy Mama:

My poor son is at a track meet now too probably sweating to death.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 5:06pm medson:

Ole Dub loves sugar lips.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 5:09pm medson:

I hope he’s staying hydrated.
Avatar 5:11pm Kitschy Mama:

  5:13pm bobob plasticland milw/atl:

Avatar 5:14pm Fatherflot:

We went from the '40s to the '90s in a couple of days here.
Avatar 5:14pm Kitschy Mama:

Hey FF WElcome!
Avatar 5:15pm Fatherflot:

Thanks KM!
Avatar 5:15pm Kitschy Mama:

FF, same in Sconsin. Where you at again?
Avatar 5:15pm Fatherflot:

Iowa. . .
Avatar 5:16pm Kitschy Mama:

Bob, it is super unusual. Tornado warnings constantly.
Avatar 5:16pm Kitschy Mama:

Ioway! Nice! just down to the left!
Avatar 5:17pm Fatherflot:

Avatar 5:20pm Fatherflot:

This show never fails to put a big smile on my face instantly.
Avatar 5:20pm Kitschy Mama:

Ha! who doesn't love Radar! He's like the original Jason Alexander.
Avatar 5:21pm Kitschy Mama:

Aww thanks! Glad ya like!
Avatar 5:22pm Fatherflot:

KM -- The original lovable TV nebbish --- only he wasn't a sociopath like George Costanza
Avatar 5:23pm Motobro:

Ellow K Dub!
Finally get to listen in real time.
Avatar 5:23pm Kitschy Mama:

FF, haha yes! Although, sociopath is somewhat relatable for me personally. :)

Avatar 5:27pm Kitschy Mama:

FF, Thanks too much work going into this dumb show!
Avatar 5:28pm Fatherflot:

JM -- Right? I can't believe how much time I'm putting into mine, just trying to keep up with all the other fantastic DJs here.
Avatar 5:28pm Fatherflot:

*KM* fingers not working today.
Avatar 5:30pm Kitschy Mama:

No worries. These programs though, it's gotta be in ya to do it. I'm such a music nerd, nice to have an outlet.
Avatar 5:33pm Fatherflot:

KM: I feel the same way. I did almost 100 episodes on Mixcloud before I got here. I barely heard anything from listeners, but just kept plugging away because it made me happy to do it. Here it's a whole different dynamic --- amazing feedback. Gratifying, to be sure, but it's also like "Oh my god, people are actually listening --- better make sure every show is absolutely the best it can be every single time."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm Eric R:

hey KM and F2! and Motobro!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 5:35pm medson:

Sounding great KM as per usual.
Avatar 5:36pm Kitschy Mama:

Avatar 5:37pm Fatherflot:

Hey Eric!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm Eric R:

can't do any better than that! 6-0! Look out for the playoffs, though. Teams can get hot late.
Avatar 5:37pm MOM WHIG:

F2 amazing!! Like your new time tonite too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm Eric R:

hey Mom! I feel like I'm cheating on Kip! Two great shows at the same time.

Avatar 5:39pm Fatherflot:

MW - my family and friends who are still in NJ are very happy to get the show started an hour earlier.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm Eric R:

you had to have a bass singer if you were singing under the streetlight
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 5:40pm medson:

Hey there F2
Avatar 5:41pm Kitschy Mama:

Eric! yes totally! glad to meet more doo wop fiends!
Avatar 5:42pm Fatherflot:

Eric: I imagine there were not many given bassmen in a given neighborhood. The competition for them must have been fierce!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm Eric R:

There was (maybe still is) a fantastic show on KPOO in the Bay Area, called "Grinder's Grooveyard" and that's where I started loving these doowops. F2, I bet you're right about that!
Avatar 5:44pm Fatherflot:

KM - I think of Doo Wop as the blues of the north. NY rock of the 60s is totally infused with it and it leads to a very different sound than southern blues.
Avatar 5:44pm Kitschy Mama:

we're all adults here... right?
Avatar 5:44pm Kitschy Mama:

FF, sure i could see that.
Avatar 5:44pm Fatherflot:

Double Entendre roooools.
Avatar 5:45pm Motobro:

Tapping that thang and holding it wide open!
Avatar 5:45pm Motobro:

Get ur chance under the keg.
Avatar 5:46pm Fatherflot:

KM: I don't know if I said it here, but one day I was learning "White Light/White Heat" by the Velvet Underground when a light suddenly went off in my head and I said "Of course! it's a doo wop song!" A lot of VU songs have doo wop foundations.
Avatar 5:47pm Motobro:

Yup, as a kid I remember we were all excited about cottage cheese….. NOT
Avatar 5:47pm Kitschy Mama:

oh yeah, you've mentioned that before. Lou loved all that early doo wop n' soul.
Avatar 🎸 5:47pm Ellen:

Sounds like Ronnie Bird listened to the Knickerbockers
Avatar 5:47pm Fatherflot:

"I'm Waiting for the Man" even has full on barbershop quartet chord changes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm Eric R:

I like mine with strawberry jam! Hold the cottage cheese, just give me the jam
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 5:47pm myron feld:

F2: Lou was a HUGE doo wop fan.
Avatar 5:47pm Kitschy Mama:

Ellen, Hey! Sho does!
Avatar 5:47pm MOM WHIG:

Cottage Cheese on half peaches
Avatar 5:48pm Motobro:

Cheese cake fo sure.
Avatar 5:48pm Hackensack Slim:

Lies = Cheese en Francais? Diggin the show KM!
Avatar 5:48pm Kitschy Mama:

I'm more a spoonful of cottage cheese at midnight gal.
Avatar 5:48pm Fatherflot:

Myron: Right on. There was a "Coney Island Baby" by the Excellents before his. And it's still a better record!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm Eric R:

too many VU fans don't like doowop and thus declare that the early Lou songs were "satirical".
Avatar 5:49pm Fatherflot:

Eric: Those are the kinds of fans that Lou despised openly.
Avatar 5:49pm Kitschy Mama:

Eric, thats the best stuff to ever exist!
Avatar 5:50pm Motobro:

Jezz, 1972 was gas had lead in it and was 90 cents a gallon for the good stuff.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 5:50pm myron feld:

those VU fans couldn't be wronger.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 5:53pm myron feld:

F2: re: Coney Island Baby -- oh yes. I knew that one from Gus Gossert's Doo Wop Shop on WCBS-FM in the early 70s.
Avatar 🎸 5:54pm Ellen:

Digging this Lefty Combs track KM
Avatar 5:56pm Kitschy Mama:

Ellen, Thanks! more "Lefties" out there than I thought. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm Eric R:

Avatar 🎸 5:57pm Ellen:

Was thinking the same Eric
Avatar 🎸 6:02pm Ellen:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:02pm Eric R:

Avatar 6:11pm MOM WHIG:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm Eric R:

one of my fave lines from Marty...his Mom saying "why don't you go to the Stardust Ballroom? It's loaded with tomatoes"
Avatar 6:12pm Fatherflot:

Myron -- the great Don K. Reed
Avatar 6:13pm Kitschy Mama:

I watched Marty like 3 times this week. So good, love Ern.
Avatar 6:15pm Kitschy Mama:

Eric, more Marty samples coming later in the show.
Avatar 6:16pm Fatherflot:

Eric:. That reminds me of the line in "Nothing Sacred" about "Tootsies of all nations"
Avatar 6:17pm Fatherflot:

KM has the best samples!
Avatar 6:18pm Kitschy Mama:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm Eric R:

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:31pm myron feld:

F2: you're right, Don K. Reed had the Doo Wop Shop. Gus Gossert's show preceded that one on CBS-FM by a few years -- now I can't think of the name, or if it even had one. Then Gus went to PIX (I think) and eventually met an unfortunate end in the mid-70s.
Avatar 6:34pm Fatherflot:

Myron - I seem to remember The Doo Wop Shop continuing into the 90svat least. I haven't lived in the NYC area for many years
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 6:35pm myron feld:

it did -- I mean Gus himself met an unfortunate end in the mid-70s.
Avatar 6:36pm Fatherflot:

But I can remember trying to find Doo Wop in the radio every time I visited. I also favored bars like The Charlemagne in Hackensack that had doo wop heavy jukeboxes when visiting.
Avatar 6:37pm Fatherflot:

*Charlemarmee*. Damn autocorrect
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37pm Scott67:
