MarkTime (vintage radio airchecks), and Krys O (aka Sister Krys - WFMU alumna 1985-1991, longtime Church of the Subgenius monk. Playing cinematic ephemera, schizoid weirdos, all styles served here). Plus: surprise guests galore. (illustration courtesy of https://www.jimflora.com/)

@Krys O I'll take your The Cremator and raise you a Night and Fog for scariest film: www.imdb.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:11pm Pauly from Clifton:

Hi Krys!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:13pm Austin Rich:

This is starting to sound like my parents record collection.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:13pm Kat in Chicago:

It's a bit of an odd mix.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:14pm Mr Fab:

Commercial radio would thro in jazz instros between rock tracks? Thems was the days...
Avatar 🎸 8:15pm MarkTime:

Would be my mom's, except she had no jazz. There were some odd mixes on many Chicago FMs back in the day, especially on the little suburban stations
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:15pm Krys O.:

@HyperDose: I used to watch World at War TV series with my dad. My parents were prisoners of war doing forced labor in Nazi Germany when they were teenagers. That's a long story.
Avatar 8:17pm HyperDose:

@Krys Were you or anyone able to record/document their experiences? I know it's heavy stuff, but it's important we preserve them as to not repeat the same mistakes in the future.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:18pm Austin Rich:

Now there's a throwback: Voice Overs that just tell you the name of the song.
Avatar 🎸 8:19pm MarkTime:

@Austin - now it's everything BUT title & artist, outside of college radio
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:20pm Austin Rich:

I'm totally in love the Dawn now.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:23pm Krys O.:

@MarkTime: Did you ever hear of WHER, the first all-women radio station?
Avatar 🎸 8:23pm MarkTime:

"Dawn" would have a long career in Chicago radio, mostly under her real name
Avatar 🎸 8:26pm MarkTime:

@Krys - all I heard of WHER was a special on National Public Radio some years ago, There was a plaque in their honor amongst the history stuff we saw at Sun Studios in Memphis, as Mr. Phillips owned WHER and Sun at the time
Avatar 8:27pm HyperDose:

I'd love to hear a WHER program or three
Avatar 8:28pm David in California:

Hearing this reminds me of "The Unoriginal Sinner and the Ice Cream God", set in Chicago in the seventies.
Avatar 🎸 8:30pm MarkTime:

@David - I'll have to track down a copy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm Mx. Baba Bee (e/they):

Yow and howdy, MarkTime and folx!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm Pauly from Clifton:

Hiya Mx Baba Bee!
Avatar 8:31pm HyperDose:

MxBB, oh how I've missed thee(e)!
Avatar 🎸 8:32pm MarkTime:

@David - None of the libraries in the San Bernardino County system have it
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:33pm Mr Fab:

haha, Tony Bennett finger-snapping his way thru the Beatles. What kind of radio format is this?!
Avatar 🎸 8:33pm MarkTime:

Hello, Mx. Baba Bee
Avatar 8:34pm David in California:

MarkTime, I'm sorry it's so hard to find.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:36pm Sonderangebot:

Hi!!! Happy to be able to have some time off to listen live!
Avatar 🎸 8:36pm MarkTime:

I will have to re-activate my Los Angeles City library card ... they have two copies
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36pm Mx. Baba Bee (e/they):

Golly, what a warm and wiggly welcome! Howzit, Pauly? A delight to espy you, HyperDosekins!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:37pm Mr Fab:

this must be Peppermint Patty
Avatar 🎸 8:38pm MarkTime:

The Little Red-Haired Girl?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:38pm Austin Rich:

Oh Dawn. You are too much.
Avatar 8:39pm David in California:

MarkTime, oh, good. I think you'll find it worthwhile.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:39pm Mx. Baba Bee (e/they):

The red-haired girl was Charlie Brown's pined-for love that is never attained!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:39pm Kat in Chicago:

Yes, the Little Red-Haired Girl, she didn't have any other name. Peppermint Patty was the kind of butch one ("Marcie, stop calling me 'sir'!")
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:40pm Mr Fab:

Baba Bee's avatar gettin down to the soundz!
Avatar 🎸 8:40pm MarkTime:

The dancing figure in Mx. Baba Bee's icon is keeping the beat with this one
Avatar 🎸 8:41pm MarkTime:

Mr. Fab beat me to it :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41pm Mx. Baba Bee (e/they):

ha ha!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:41pm Austin Rich:

I read a lot of Peanuts as a kid, but in a way, the strip sort of just slid off my mind. I can't remember any actual events of any Peanuts strip, just that the kids talked like adults and were always sad.

Which sounds about right.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:42pm Mr Fab:

That was probably Peppermint Patty, cuz she called Charlie Brown "Chuck." The red-haired girl never said anything. She didn't know Charlie Brown existed.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:42pm Kat in Chicago:

Oh I think you're right
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:43pm Kat in Chicago:

This is why reading the Sunday funnies aloud doesn't really work
Avatar 🎸 8:43pm MarkTime:

I looked up Peanuts for May 16th, 1971, and it sure looks like Peppermint Patty www.gocomics.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:44pm Mx. Baba Bee (e/they):

It was Peppermint Patty! peanuts.fandom.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:44pm Mx. Baba Bee (e/they):

ha ha! we're so on it!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:44pm Austin Rich:

I was about to look up the strip, too!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:44pm Mr Fab:

The naked man hit over the head with a 2x4 - that was the funniest story ever. Love the deadpan reading of it.
Avatar 8:44pm Mr. X:

Only in the 70s would there be a naked man whose only possession was a concrete block.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:44pm Kat in Chicago:

Yep
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:45pm Kat in Chicago:

Yeah the stories of violence in Chicago these days aren't much on comic elements
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:45pm Austin Rich:

I think Don Joyce used to sample / play Dawn / Connie on Over The Edge. This voice sounds VERY familiar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:45pm Mx. Baba Bee (e/they):

I guess if you didn't know the characters, you'd just describe PP as "a little red-haired girl"
Avatar 🎸 8:45pm MarkTime:

Charlie Brown would just have a rock
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:46pm Austin Rich:

Hey, Mr. X! Good to see you in the chat!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:46pm Mx. Baba Bee (e/they):

at least Charlie Brown wore a sheet.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:46pm Mr Fab:

yeah, that time Linus slipped some LSD into Charlie Brown's baloney sandwich and he went around naked saying, "I gotta rock."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47pm Pauly from Clifton:

The parallels between the news now and 50 years ago is amazing. Except for the naked guy with the brick. You don't see a lot of that anymore.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:47pm Austin Rich:

"I gotta rock. I gotta rock." Zappa tottally stole that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:49pm Mx. Baba Bee (e/they):

Apparently, ol' Chuck eventually got to kiss the Little Red Haired Girl, but that's up there with solving Laura Palmer's murder for destroying a perfect mystery: peanuts.fandom.com...
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:49pm Mr Fab:

When I was a teenager, transitioning from trick-or-treating to handing out the candy, i actually did put rocks in some kids's bags. Charlie Brown made me do it.
Avatar 🎸 8:50pm MarkTime:

Hopefully the rocks were not returned, through a window
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:51pm Austin Rich:

I can only imagine that you were not alone in that behavior, Mr. Fab.

I remember my parents conned me into staying home and handing out candy by telling me that I could watch TV and eat candy. I realize they wanted someone to watch the house so other kids didn't vandalize our place while they took my siblings out to trick or treat.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:53pm Kat in Chicago:

OMG
Avatar 8:53pm Mr. X:

I remember this one.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:54pm Mr Fab:

Whoah, Serge & Jane on commercial radio!?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:54pm Mr Fab:

Wonder if they fade it down before *that* part.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:54pm Sonderangebot:

Oh no, covering my ears!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:54pm Austin Rich:

And, didn't someone play this song last hour, too?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55pm Mx. Baba Bee (e/they):

This is so opposite the Peanuts cartoon
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:55pm Kat in Chicago:

Probably, Austin, this song gets a LOT of airplay on Sheena
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:55pm Austin Rich:

Oh Dawn. You scamp.
Avatar 8:55pm Mr. X:

Voulez vous hinky dinky parlez vous?
Avatar 🎸 8:56pm MarkTime:

Yes ... I think they understand each other all too well
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:56pm Mr Fab:

Austin, this is the orig, Shangri-La played a cover earlier today. (I'd say most Sheena's DJs have played versions of "J'Taime!")
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:56pm Mx. Baba Bee (e/they):

all the streams could coordinate to play it simultaneously!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:56pm Mr Fab:

Nope, uncensored.
"Mommy, what's wrong with that lady in the song?"
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:56pm Austin Rich:

I guess I have to play it, too?

Or, we should coordinate that, some week.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:56pm Kat in Chicago:

Otis and Darryl definitely play parodies of this
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:57pm Austin Rich:

Before noon, on a Sunday? Dawn, you are incorrigible!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:58pm Austin Rich:

"Getting your hands on the attic?" Dawn!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:58pm Mr Fab:

perfect Sunday morn entertainment for those who don't go to church.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58pm Mx. Baba Bee (e/they):

Get your hands on that addict?
Avatar 🎸 8:58pm MarkTime:

My stereo needs an oil change
Avatar 8:59pm Mr. X:

It's those white go-go boots, isn't it, Austin?
Avatar 8:59pm David in California:

Thank you, Mark Time. I've enjoyed this.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:59pm Mr Fab:

Baba Bee: Haha!

Well, it was the hippie era...
  8:59pm sufferwords:

so good - thanks
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:00pm Krys O.:

This has been such a treat. Thanks, MarkTime!

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:00pm Kat in Chicago:

That was great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:00pm Scott67:

Thanks Mark, I have been in a delightful time trance. Felt like a kid again. Australian Radio was very similar back then.
