The drums on this Hindulam Ensemble sound like they're coming from another room!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18am Doug Schulkind:

@doctorjazz
Possibly just poor recording technique. Most of (all of?) the performances on this compilation are field recordings. Surely its a real challenge to capture a larger ensemble like this in the wild and not a recording studio.

Avatar 10:36am still b/p:

Good morning.
I've never understood the hating on "moist" in the last couple decades, with some people so proud and adamant as they declare their wincing discomfort or full revulsion at the utterance of it. They seem to take some entertainment in their righteous-toned remarks. Weird. Whatever your associative reactions, get over it.
I walked outside this morning, and ya know what the grass was? Moist with dew. Moist, I sez. And sparkly. How about that? Got a problem with sparkly, too?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am Doug Schulkind:

And greetings, Franc∅ Twinkie! And, woo-hoo!, it's still b/p!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:37am Brian in UK:

Dean, intern rates?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:37am Jeff Golick:

I found you, just in time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am Doug Schulkind:

@still b/p
In college I had a surrealism professor who stated in one lecture that men never used the word "lovely." I have made it my life's purpose to work the word into every conversation.

Lovely Jeff Golick is here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am coelacanth∅:

my feet are still a little moist from the shower
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39am coelacanth∅:

it's Lovely you do that Doug
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39am Doug Schulkind:

Another great word that I often use for starting Wordle:

R A D I O
Avatar 10:40am sinner:

Enjoying the sermon, pastor.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43am Doug Schulkind:

Speaking of Wordle, has anyone noticed that Wordle's green-yellow-gray color scheme is almost an exact match to my original playlist color scheme? Lookie here: wfmu.org...

I had to give up my old version when WFMU forced everyone to use its fancy new playlist template instead of HTML coding the pages ourselves.

@sinner!
The second set of today's programme was presented with delight and appreciation for you and your exquisite taste and generosity.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:44am Brian in UK:

still b/p just come in from the garden & it is warm, I am glowing.

Tend to favour delightful over lovely. A surrealist prof, wow. Surrealism is a much misused word these days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47am coelacanth∅:

s b/p i didn't know it was a fashion.
but c.1992 i told a
friend/coworker/Lover that i didn't like the word "moist" (or "smear") and weeks later she was being playful and started using "moist" in every sentence, with a devilish look...and it flew right past me.
it didn't bother me at all, i was cured!

...and i was a trendsetter, apparently.

Avatar 10:51am still b/p:

I don't remember who, but someone said the same thing to me many years ago about lovely. And I also thought the man prohibition notion was strange and foolish.

Calls to mind a King Sunny concert years ago. Too damn much fun. We danced until we hurt.

That "see what condition" song was by Kenny Rogers and the Moist Edition, wu'n't it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am Doug Schulkind:

Matt Fiveash! So chuffed to see you!

@βrian
So true. I remember getting home from a Sunny Adé show and my face hurt from smiling.

For some reason, the name Sunny Risky & the Vitamin Explosion makes me think of the Muhammad Ali record, "Ali and His Gang vs Mr. Tooth Decay"

I felt like such a cylinder when I graduated.

Mmmm . . . jury duty. I got called once in Bronx County and the guy in charge looked just like Fred Mertz with a Beatle wig. I stared and stared at him with amazement
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:35am Uncle Michael:

No means no.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:35am Zipperhead7:

Better to be a cylinder than a square, right?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am spodiodi:

Yes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am Doug Schulkind:

I love jury duty, too. It is a humbling and precious honor to be included. And fascinating, too. I remember being called for jury service back in Brooklyn, NY. I was surrounded by entitled white assholes all trying to scam their way out of serving. Meanwhile, all the immigrants of every shade, shape and creed were proudly, asserting their right to participate. It was profound and inspiring.
Avatar 11:37am βrian:

Before, I was a nondescript cylinder. Then I got graduated! I felt so volumetric.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am Doug Schulkind:

I wonder if Kenny Ballard & the Fabulous Soul Brothers ever shared a bill with Kenny & the Eggplants?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am coelacanth∅:

i saw King Sunny Adé on one of those piers, c.1982 for about 5 bucks. my aunt had turned me onto him and i deliberated about getting her a ticket, but i knew i was going with a friend and we'd be smoking herbs and i didn't know how to find out if she was cool with that.
...i'm an idiot. of course she was cool with it.
years later she found out i saw him and was hurt i didn't invite her.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38am Doug Schulkind:

Hello, rw! Nice to see ya!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:38am Uncle Michael:

Only once was I ever not excused over the phone on the preceding Sunday night. That tile, I was in a reserve group that never got called in for selection.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am Doug Schulkind:

I've made it through voir dire to be seated on a jury only once. The case then got settled after only a few hours of trial.

I`m just finishing my workout.
  11:44am Dean:

Long ago I served on a county superior court jury. I was foreman (foreperson, whatever). The entire jury panel was sympathetic to the plaintiffs in a PI case, but their asshole attorney was not in any mood to work, and so he offered up almost no evidence against the defendant, certainly not enough to prove liability. When I announced the verdict in favor of the defendant, the asshole judge sighed and shook his head.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am Doug Schulkind:

Thanks for bringing me along with you, Andrew in Toronto!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am coelacanth∅:

i've been called for various jury duties i think 5 times but never have ended up making any decisions about someone's fate. kind of looked forward to getting involved too, but never even heard any cases.
  11:45am rw:

Holy cow. This song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am Doug Schulkind:

Clarence "Blowfly" Reid. His double-persona is reminiscent of the great gospel composer Rev. Thomas A. Dorsey and his opposite persona in the form of gutbucket purveyor Georgia Tom.

Clarence Reid is this Blowfly?

Oh ha thanks Doug- you answered my question before I asked it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49am Doug Schulkind:

@solo mon
Here is the answer to your next question. The rabbit was already dead.
  11:49am Dean:

Last time reported for service was in '20, a sexual assault case. During voir dire many of the prospective jurors couldn't understand why just one inculpatory smidgen of evidence shouldn't be enough to convict. The judge asked me whatf I thought, and I went into the usual bit about the full force and resources of the state versus a lone accused person. "Spoken like a true lawyer," said the judge,"which he is." I attended the same law school as the judge.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:50am Jeff Golick:

I was on a jury that was sequestered once; we stayed a night at a hotel on Staten Island. Wrapped up pretty quickly after that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50am Doug Schulkind:

You are most (moist) welcome, Ramblin' Ray!

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:56am holland oats:

  11:56am Dean:

Another prospective juror had a different opinion. He explained that he had served on a sexual assault panel as an alternate, and he couldn't imagine that the victim had in fact been victimized. "She wasn't that good looking," he opined. Jesus. Later, he mentioned that he was a retired police officer.

@Doug/UM: I work with law students all the time. They routinely amaze and encourage me with their smarts, their ambition, their eagerness to learn. I also work with undergraduates whose goal is to get into law school. They, too, are so impressive.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:56am Jeff Golick:

Thanks, Doug. You are guilty of entertaining me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am Doug Schulkind:

@Zipperhead7
Thanks, man. Serving on a jury is, in some ways, a more profound right than voting itself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am spodiodi:
