BennyThePlug, quite correct. I imagined from the injuries that he was wearing an open face lid.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:14am Brian in UK:

Are Rueben sandwiches popular in FMU land?
Avatar 9:15am BennyThePlug:

Brian - That's what it sounds like to me. His helmet probably saved his life, but I sure wish he had a full face helmet on. I'm glad he's alive, that is so scary.
Avatar 9:16am Roberto:

Vegan Reuben sandwiches are popular in Robertoland.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:16am Handy Haversack:

Word, Roberto.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:17am karlward:

Is it still a Reuben if it's tempeh, and it has mustard on it instead of mayo?
Avatar 9:18am Claire from Montclair:

I just ate a hot dog with mustard and sauerkraut, that’s Reuben adjacent?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:18am karlward:

[realizes he is not sure what a Reuben is in the first place]
Avatar 9:18am Roberto:

Reubens don't usually have mayo, do they? Unless it's in the form of "Russian" dressing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19am dave wuz here:

freedom dressing
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:19am Brian in UK:

Just discovered a pub that sells them. It is about forty minutes away though. Not sure how a veganlicious one could work.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:19am Handy Haversack:

Russian is mayo and ketchup, isn't it? Add relish for Thousand Islands?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:19am karlward:

Isn't Russian dressing just mayo and ketchup? And, like, why? And, like, don't.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20am Micheal:

A calming start to the week. Thanks, Joe. Wish Eisenberg’s was open for a Reuben!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:21am Handy Haversack:

(I am a total convert to Vegannaise. And I have even been to Mahon and had mayonnaise there, in the omphalos. But I am absolutely sold on Vegannaise.)

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:37am Dano59:

rural PA is definitely a "free! free to ride out machines! and not be hassled by the man!" kind of place.
Avatar 9:38am BennyThePlug:

dday - oh I know. I mean I get it, it feels amazing to have the wind in your hair. But the trade off on safety just isn't worth it to me. There's too many variables that the rider doesn't control. But ultimately, it's a matter of personal freedom, and some people will never wear a helmet.
Avatar 9:39am Rev. Turnip Druid:

jeezus. I won't even ride the 0.5 miles to the grocery without armor & FF helmet.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:40am Handy Haversack:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45am dday:

When I lived in AZ I saw a guy get broadsided on a bike (his fault) when the guy on the bike passed a car going through an intersection to make the light. The guy on the bike flew about 25 yards. He was killed
Avatar 9:46am Rev. Turnip Druid:

also: being a new rider at 50+, fast is fun but i got nothing to prove, no group rides, having a blast solo. Being a lifelong bicycle commuter may be helping situational awareness as well + dumb luck.

Oof, HyperD, it's been a little while. Once I became conscious of the expense of replacing glasses? Though I am often on the edge, which honestly was where I positioned myself as a teenager, too. I like to just be an immovable object and help people who want to extract themselves get extracted.

Though I do sometimes wonder if five-plus years postsmoking has improved my pogoing endurance ...
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:50am Brian in UK:

The second question after how is the rider is normally 'how is the bike?'

After my crash when conciousness had returned with me lying in the road, some people had put the bike on its stand on the pavement. The lights were still on and my first question was, can someone turn them off, it will drain the battery.

Here in busy S Florida they put in new marked bike lanes. They alternate between the full car lane and the small side one. It's often blocked by parked cars and garbage and recycling cans. I've seen it used as a passing lane. Between texters and citizens on medications i don't trust them.
Avatar 10:00am BennyThePlug:

DJLorraine - As a motorcycle rider, people texting is very scary. especially when stopped behind a car at a light. if a driver is approaching from behind and is texting he can sandwich a rider between the two cars.

as a rider, never position yourself directly behind a car stopped in front of you. either filter to the front of the line of cars, or position yourself just outside of the car in front of you. This protects you from being sandwiched.

Benny: the "cry" around here is "bikers have rights." Well then, when you (the collective rights crew) crash & the bills come in above & beyond what you're insured for, I ask "who pays for that ?" The answer is the pool of good drivers of all types of vehicles who also have rights. The way I feel is why should my rates go up yearly with a spotless driving record since 1976 to pay for those who act recklessly?

@HyperDose, yeah, it was almost mini Bandcamp; I remember people posting streams of their music, etc. Although I do miss the punk-rock aesthetic of passing out flyers. My friend Bunny in Perp Walk did the whole "hand-lettered cut-up collage" style black and white flyers. For every gig, she used a different news photograph of someone famous getting arrested, ie doing the perp walk. First one was Son of Sam; over the years any celebrity or notorious arrest got the treatment. Along with the tagline -- "our admission price for this gig is our favorite--free!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am dday:

McG: I think he's fantastic both then & now. That's why it hit me like it did. It was at The Chance in Poughkeepsie,NY. Mike (the other McG). - Marshall has said as much. He once told me (to a question about his experience wanting to have a hit) that it took about $250K in promoter payouts to get a radio hit. "So, yeah, I do kind of regret that a record company never wanted to spend that much on me."

Yes, bikers have to watch out for motorists and vice versa. Lots of stories of bikers getting hit by a car. However, we were driving north on Tramway in Albuquerque and we saw a young man on a motorcycle pulling wheelies. He ran a red light while doing the wheelie. suddenly, traffic in the left lane was stopped and same guy was injured (bleeding arms for some reason, maybe tatoos?) and two guys ran to help him pick up his bike. Hope is more cautious moving forward and that he wears proper ppe.

Joe, I've never heard Judy Henske before - this set has been absolutely wonderful. Thanks! This is why I listen to WFMU.

oh, this is nice. I've only heard Lankum's much slower version of Katie Cruel (and Lingua Ignota's Lankum-inspired version)

i played high flying bird on the jukebox at the pub (~15 years ago) and a guy said to me i think this singer is imitating grace slick!
idiot.
i just laughed, but he wasn't joking.

(and it's a big insult, in my opinion)

it irks me, too, when people claim a later artist was ripped by an eariler. but, people have to relate stuff to what they know, i guess.
