Avatar 10:16am Joe McG:

The best one-stop shopping for the Poppy Family is a CD compilation called "A Good Thing Lost."
  10:16am dano59:

There’s something about exposure to that classic 50s-60s country singing a la Dolly, Patsy & Lynn Anderson. Dusty started out in that style. Ronstadt & Olivia, noted.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:18am Brian in UK:

The Poppy Family/Susan Jacks never really got any traction over here. Apart from 'Billy'.

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:48am G:

@Gerry: wiki article on Doc D says: "The online show follows a format similar to that of the terrestrial show; no longer being limited by a radio time slot or commercial breaks, the show usually exceeds two hours and may include "bonus tracks" at the end of the show. The weekly "Funny Five" has been replaced by a monthly Top Ten in order to allow for more comprehensive special topic segments. The new format, along with the ability to play records that previously would have been censored on the radio, has allowed Hansen to delve more deeply into his collection than was possible on the syndicated radio show." -- Much more detail available at the wiki article.

She ended up marrying some super-rich Dduke or prince from some European country and they lived only about 5 or 6 miles away from me on the Palos Verdes Peninsula in south Los Angeles County. Fancy that! Nancy was one great singer! Straddled both jazz and pop.

If your last name is “Cain” you’re obliged to get culty…

This Bobby Charles record maintains a level of calmness and relaxation I wouldn't have thought possible. It actually makes me kind of nervous to listen to it.

@Zephyr: Can you send me an e-mail after the show? jmcgasko@wfmu.org. I'll get you sorted.

And, yes, it's the same Bobby Charles who did "See You Later Alligator" (and "Take It Easy, Greasy (Cause You Got A Long Way To Slide)".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am McGroovey:

My favorite Bearsville acts (aside Todd Rundgren) were Elizabeth Barraclough and Foghat. (Are those spoilers?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am drr:

re: Jonathan Cain: he was also in the Babys with John Waite (I think that's how Journey found him, The Babys were their opening act for a while).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am McGroovey:

Oh. And the dB's. I forgot they were on Bearsville.

Joe, interesting label. Is there any autoharp on Bearsville?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

You call that in the Break what - tack piano? Sounds almost like hammered dulcimer...
Avatar 11:38am Joe McG:

@Brian: Not much, alas!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am McGroovey:

I have an autoharp sound in my head from a Todd Rundgren song, but I can't remember which song.. something from Runt, maybe. Or at least one of the first three albums.

Avatar 11:41am Joe McG:

Avatar 11:42am Mike W:

They always pull out the dB’s in the last half hour, saving the big hit(ter)s for the end
  11:43am Andres:

I come across a fair amount of Bearsville 45s but not any of this good stuff. I am digging in thrift store bins though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am drr:

"Like This" was one of the albums I gave to my kid brother when I went to college. I see it at his house from time to time and consider asking for it back, but it looks like it's gotten a lot of play over there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am McGroovey:

I have a Randy Van Warmer album on Bearsville. It's good soft-pop. Nothing I've really felt like listening in the past 20 years. But I think Todd Rundgren and Ruger Powell are on it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45am dale:

did p.i.l. borrow this? certainly sounds like it.

Was the Utopia tune right after the Fusion album/tour ? If so I caught it at the Tower in Philly. My friend was expecting Pyramids and Fusion and was bitterly disappointed by Beatle Suits and Pop tunes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I do have some allergic reactions to mainstream 1970s~80s Chart Hits - but of that category always thot - well, Foghat's just a RawkBand.
