Avatar 10:17pm

David how are thing on the West Coast today?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm
Fatherflot:

David: Let us hope. Coaching my son's little league team now and it's an involving game when you keep the pace up. But my god, those 4.5 hour Yankees-Orioles games with a gazillion walks and every at bat going to a full count and then foul, foul, foul, foul, ---- unbearable!
Avatar 10:37pm
MOM WHIG:

F2 this Kings Ransom is really good
Avatar 10:38pm
David in California:

MW, things are going well here.

F2, there do seem to be more fouls. The Giants have a strategy of driving the starter's pitch count up and tiring him, so they can get to the reliever, so they keep fouling pitches off.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm
Fatherflot:

David: New parks have seats closer to plate, so much less foul ground in play. The constantly fouling off of pitches is a plague in contemporary MLB
Avatar 10:44pm
David in California:

F2, I hadn't thought about that, but you're right, the multi-purpose parks in the 70's had more foul territory. But before that, wouldn't the earlier parks that were designed just for baseball also have had less foul ground?
Avatar 10:47pm
MOM WHIG:

David & F2 - which park had the hedge in the outfield?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48pm
Fatherflot:

David: You would think, but no. The dimensions of old parks were very strange --- look at The Polo Grounds -- 258 to left, 483 to center. And a lot of them had massive in-play foul ground.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48pm

F2 thanks - also Fenway Park has one red seat --and is the older park 1912.The lone red seat in the right field bleachers (Section 42, Row 37, Seat 21) signifies the longest home run ever hit at Fenway. The home run, hit by Ted Williams on June 9, 1946, was officially measured at 502 feet (153 m) – well beyond "Williamsburg".

MW - Yeah! Not everyone has the same connection between rock 'n roll and baseball, but for those of us who see them as part of the same continuum, it's a beautiful thing.

F2, I was pleased when I saw you writing about the no-hitter in progress, as I hadn't seen anyone write about baseball in the chat.

MW: Yeah, I am enjoying them slowly.

F2, although for me, my enthusiasms for rock and baseball aren't really linked. I first got my love for baseball from my father, who didn't get rock at all.

David: My dad didn't like rock or baseball, so there's no explanation for my enthusiasms.

My father wound up being more of a football fan than a baseball fan. Football had no appeal for me. It annoyed me when baseball commentators recently were talking about the football draft, as if all baseball fans would care about it.
