Have you collected those in a huge volume? It would be nice to see the back-issues, if they are available.

at least we get to listen to the great Simply Saucer doing "Here Come The Cyborgs."

and Richard Groove Holmes tinkling the, er, plastics? Whatever you call playing a synth.

Ahhhh. Simply Saucer. Sometimes I get them and Debris confused.

"Sweet Georgia Brown," as whistled by Brother Bones, was famous as the Harlem Globetrotters theme. Groove Holmes giving it the Space age Moog treatment. Playing basketball in zero gravity would def be interesting.

Very cool, Mark! I only started making 'zines in the early '90s, but I really enjoyed being part of the longer, larger conversation. Been a fan ever since.

SO Jon if you start say, 10 mins late, end your show 10 min early so Austin can start.

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:13pm
Austin Rich:

I used to drop in on the WFMU archives when I first knew about them, probably sometime in '06, '07? But I didn't really start listening to shows until a few years later. And then I listened to podcasts of shows before I got into the live stuff. And, of course, the blog... which I got a lot of great stuff I played on MY shows for years... yeah, it's an amazing resource, outside of having a show on the thing, too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13pm

I haven't heard one of those air raid sirens in the wild in ages. Didn't know they still did that. I might have duck-and-covered under my work desk out of habit.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:25pm

The Boyonne Bleeder is from that neck of the woods... the inspiration for Rocky, but supposedly a lot more of a crazy story. I think Jeff Feurizig made a doc about him?

Those Freight Whistles can really travel.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:27pm

@Austin Rich and @Mr Fab - I will cut out early at the top of the hour, so Austin can start his program on time. And coordinate the replacement file, for the archive, later.

The power plant has 4 Whelen 2900s. The remaining 31 HPSS-32s and a Thunderbolt 2000 are federally owned I assume.

Here's a map of them! www.google.com...

Kat in Chicago:

"Royals" is a song that I know only from mashup versions and that Mormon parody that Micah plays on Music of Mind Control. I am 99% certain I have never heard it in its original form.

Austin Rich:

Wow. Have not heard this in the wild in ages.

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:28pm

@MarkTime thanks for tuning in! Sorry for the tech difficulties. :)
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:29pm

@Kat in Chicago - me, too! There's another one, mashed with Beck's "Loser," which is really good...
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:30pm

Avatar 8:32pm
Mr Fab:

"The Beastie Boys Book" talks about Ad Rock and Mike D going over to MCA's place, and seeing him playing this Led Zep tape loop. In the pre-sampler era, Yauch had this long tape loop going out to his apt's hallway.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:33pm
postconsumer:

@Mr. Fab - that's awesome! I think I've played the Beastie Boys a total of two times, in nearly 300 episodes.
Avatar 8:33pm
Mr. X:

Ah, I thought that might be purloined from Led Zep. And am I hearing a Black Sabbath guitar lick?
Avatar 🎸 8:34pm
MarkTime:

Yep cool drums all around. One Beastie Boys track I've never heard on air "Cookie Puss". I could not wait for my first visit to Carvels after that one
Avatar 8:34pm
HyperDose:

That Beastie Boys doc was so fun and heartfelt. Ad-Rock's a pretty decent actor. Great cameo in the FMU doc
Avatar 8:34pm
Mr Fab:

correct Mr X: "When The Levee Breaks" vs "Sweet Leaf."
Avatar 8:35pm
Mr. X:

"Sweet!"
Avatar 🎸 8:35pm

I will catch the rest of this show in the archives. Was worth the wait thanks!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:35pm
Austin Rich:

That Beastie Boys Book / doc is REALLY good.
Avatar 8:37pm
Mr Fab:

postconsumer: where do you find mashups now? I used to always download from GYBO, but that site is long gone.
Avatar 8:37pm
Mr. X:

LOL Vivaldi. Why not?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:38pm
postconsumer:

I usually have an idea of what I'm looking for, re: a theme I'm putting together and just do a google search for what I need. YouTube will often have multiple mashups featuring the material I'm looking for...
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:38pm
Austin Rich:

Didn't John Oswald do a bunch of classical cut-ups?

And I think he did some great "book on tape" cut-ups that were very fun.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:39pm
postconsumer:

I'm sure you know about Bootie, as well. Their site is chock full of good stuff.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:40pm
postconsumer:

Oswald has, yes. Only one or two spoken word cut-ups are coming to mind, though. If there are more, please share!
Avatar 8:40pm
Mr Fab:

Youtube, feh, so no direct download sites, eh? I mean I CAN make a download from YT if I have to, but that's not really my first choice, would prefer a lossless file.

Yes, Bootie, great that's still going lo these many years.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:42pm
postconsumer:

Often though, the video will have a link to the artist's website, where the file is downloadable...
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:43pm
Austin Rich:

Yeah, I used YT as the idea-generator, if I'm looking for connections. But I can get a better quality download elsewhere, if I really need to.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:45pm
postconsumer:

and when it's not available elsewhere, YT videos are often HD nowadays, so a download isn't the worst option (though not preferred)
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:45pm
