Hey Nick - Welcome and thank you! Might I also add - your show last evening was inspired!
Avatar 7:31pm
djnogoodnick:

Wow! High praise. I was stretching a playlist meant for two hours to three to cover Lady C., and I have to admit to getting a bit high as well and stuttering on mic haha. But I'm glad you enjoyed it!!

Love the noodling! And I'm making dinner. Is this the universe telling me to make noodles?

Got to see Sons of Kemet not too long ago-they have a killer tuba player!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:37pm
KimSorise:

I loved it! stretching out is when it gets fun.

Love Sons of Kemet - some similarities for sure. I love the lower range brass the best - says a former b-flat horn player

Big Live performance week for me that just passed. Sunday got to see Wilco. Tuesday Redman/Mehldau/McBride/Blade (great show). And yesterday local theater in Joisey, Side Show (with my older daughter the actor in the ensemble). Fun!

Nice DocJ! Mr. Dewey Redman?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:00pm
doctorjazz:

His son Josh Redman (quite the sax player, though more of a bop player than dad, not much outside)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:01pm
KimSorise:

Still solid players all the same! Very nice. I bet it was great. Wilco also puts on a great show.

Hey WR! Welcome - thank goodness for the archive... wink wink.

They were both great shows, in different ways. Wilco is touring playing Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (for its 20th anniversary). They pretty much replicated it note for note (and the band that played on Yankee Hotel Foxtrot wasn't the same as the current group-they all had to learn the exact parts). They added a string quartet and a 3 piece string section, and put on a great show.
Redman, Mehldau, McBride, Blade are touring (a WORKING JAZZ BAND, not that many around). Always loved Mehldau (haven't gotten to see him until this week), have seen McBride (a bass monster) and Blade. They really did it up nice (I know, Kim, I want to see Trane and Ornette too, but it ain't happening).

Nothing scheduled right away, but I am supposed to go to the Solid Sound Festival in North Adams, Mass towards the end of May. (I am going to see my Side Show 2 more times).

Hi Kim! Glad I get to listen live tonight. You are killing it! Got me floating!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:28pm

DJnogoodnick-I don't know Pekka Pohjola (or any offspring). Nice to go to the festival and catch some musicians I don't know, as well as the ones I do. (caught Mdou Moctar at the last Solid Sound Festival, pre-pandemic. Didn't know of him, just blew everyone away with his set).
A good friend is very close to Nels Cline and other Wilco members, so I often wind up at some event or other of theirs (didn't have plans to see them this past Sunday, he had an extra ticked, next thing I know, I was shlepping to upper Manhattan)
Avatar 8:29pm

I love this ethereal Misha Panfilov! Not at all familiar.

THank you Abbazabba! Welcome
Avatar 8:32pm
djnogoodnick:

Doc--I don't generally listen to Wilco or that type of rootsy rock n roll, but I did catch Nels Cline solo a few years ago and was very impressed!

DocJazz @7:55- I’ve been looking at the Tuesday show you went to on the calendar for months. That’s awesome you got to see it. I’m just too far away and couldn’t do it.

Warp Ten, Funky!
Nick-I've seen Cline quite a few times, he's an incredible guitarist (and a bit of a musical madman). My friend had him, with Gerald Cleaver, drums, and Larry Ochs, sax, play a concert in his living room (my friend's living room). He usually does these house concerts around Christmas time, I believe Cline has committed to playing there again.
Abbazabba-it was cool; dragging into the city is a pain (I live in Central Jersey, work in Staten Island), but it worked out OK and was a great show!
But I pass on stuff because it's just such a hassle...

Nick-Wilco has a bit of roots/Americana in them, but they also venture into some noise territory, I like them (but I also like Americana).
Avatar 8:48pm

I prefer Americana made by Italians, or just about anybody but Americans. But especially Italians.

Oh, Americans doing jazz of course is unquestionably great. And jazz is Americana but I was referring to "Americana" as in rootsy guitar music.
