	🚂 ♥ 2:19pm JETIO BOB: HH: The story doesn't quite have the ending that I, or anyone, wanted. The whole thing could have gone better, but it certainly could have gone much worse too.
	🚂 ♥ 2:22pm JETIO BOB: Hwaet. Last Tuesday we trapped a cat who had been coming around our house since February. I had been feeding it outside, but it was very wary of humans. Because of some things that happened here in the past, we jumped to a few conclusions. 1) that she was female and 2) that she was pregnant. We felt fairly sure of those things at the time but we were probably wrong.

	🚂 ♥ 2:23pm JETIO BOB: I contacted a few local TNR (trap-neuter-release) organizations. They were all hard to contact, didn't return calls, etc. Their websites said that they lent out traps, but when I finally got hold of staff people, they said all the traps were lent out.
	🚂 ♥ 2:24pm JETIO BOB: So, I just bought a Havahart trap. I was very surpised when it succeeded, on pretty much my first attempt to trap this cat, which by this point I had named "Mathilde"
	🚂 ♥ 2:24pm JETIO BOB: (When I named her, I didn't know that Mathilde means "Mighty in Battle". This detail is relevant. Nomen est omen.)
	🚂 ♥ 2:25pm JETIO BOB: She was clearly scared when the trap door snapped shut. I was watching through the window from inside. I went out, covered the trap with a blanket, and brought her in to the downstairs bathroom, where we thought she would give birth to a litter of adorable kittens.

	🚂 ♥ 2:30pm JETIO BOB: I felt almost guilty about trapping the cat, as though I had tricked her. But still thought we were doing something good for her, and for her kittens, and for everyone.

	♥ 2:32pm ChukAmok: @Jetio Bob I have relied on the simultaneous use of several Have-A-Heart traps to remove opossums from the crawl space under my house. I felt guilty the first time, but when I released them into some woods about 10 miles away they seemed grateful for the apples and tunafish I used as bait. Very safe and humane from my experience.
	🚂 ♥ 2:33pm JETIO BOB: Our domestic cats Albert and Sonja were remarkably nonchalant about the feral cat in the bathroom. We thought they'd be upset, but they pretended not to notice. I'm sure they could smell something but there was no through-the-door interaction. Mathilde never made a peep. Chris, that photo was from the first day, but it didn't change too much.
	🚂 ♥ 2:33pm JETIO BOB: Chuk: Yes, the trap was harmless, but she was just terrified. She nearly jumped out of her skin when the door slammed shut.
	🚂 ♥ 2:34pm JETIO BOB: Anyhow, we tried again contacting the TNR associations, telling them we had done the "T" part and needed help with the "NR". And the reaction was - "You did WHAT? You have a feral cat in your BATHROOM now?"
	🚂 ♥ 2:35pm JETIO BOB: (Also, we're questioning the pregnancy, and thinking she might even be a he. Hard to get close enough to really do an examination).
	🚂 ♥ 2:35pm JETIO BOB: TreeHouse was booked out 3 months for spay appointments. Our house is starting to smell. Our cats are starting to get less cool about it. I'm starting to wonder if I made a huge mistake.

	🚂 ♥ 2:39pm JETIO BOB: Then when the top pops off the carrier, she jumps up INTO MY FACE, basically trying to claw my eyes out. Lucky I wear glasses and have big brow-ridges! She hooks one claw right through my eyebrow. She's attached to my face, my wife helps get her off of me, and gets a good bite in her hand.

I'm using the utmost of my strength, and he's holding out one stiff-arm paw and going about his business unconcerned, grooming his face, reading a magazine, smoking a cigarette ... OH NO. 	🚂 ♥ 2:42pm JETIO BOB: Ha, no weapons in the house. So we close the door, and take ourselves to the urgent care clinic, get tetanus shots and antibiotics. They said we don't have to worry about rabies, it's not prevalent in this area. "Are you SURE?" I asked. "Yes", they assured me. At this point my concern was only for my well-being and that of my wife and I felt terrible for possibly exposing us to a deadly illness.
	🚂 ♥ 2:43pm JETIO BOB: But after multiple reassurances that we didn't have to keep the animal around for observation or autopsy, we decided we would just let her go.
	🚂 ♥ 2:44pm JETIO BOB: Even that was a bit of a saga, I locked Albert and Sonja upstairs and opened up all the doors downstairs, including the door that was keeping her in the bathroom. But she didn't leave.
	🚂 ♥ 2:45pm Handy Haversack: Damn, now it's like Cape Fear!
	🚂 ♥ 2:46pm JETIO BOB: Eventually, she did. But well after midnight, after we had all gone to bed for the night. Mrs Y was not happy about going to bed with the front door propped open, but I didn't know what else to do.
	🚂 ♥ 2:46pm JETIO BOB: So, instead of Trap-Neuter-Release, it was Trap-Terrorize-Release. (The terrorizing was mutual).
	🚂 ♥ 2:47pm JETIO BOB: For a week, she was warm, dry, well-fed, and the scratches on her face healed up. But she hated every second of it, so I don't know if I did her any favors.

	🚂 ♥ 2:48pm Handy Haversack: Hotsie motise, YB, what a saga of pain! But a week of food and safety and warmth is always a good thing to give, so even with the heart-pounding action sequences, I think we can call this a feel-good story. You know, until you and Mrs. Bob turn into werecats!
	🚂 ♥ 2:48pm JETIO BOB: Yesterday, I spent about 2 hours cleaning up the bathroom. Looked like a crime scene, and I felt like that Tarantino character cleaning it all up and destroying the evidence.
	🚂 ♥ 2:49pm Handy Haversack: (I will try to complain less next time Bugbear suddenly decides to climb up to my shoulders but ends up hanging from my chest by his claws. It's very cute by contrast!)
	🚂 ♥ 2:50pm JETIO BOB: I've thought about the whole thing a lot, and of course I had good intentions, but we all know about the road to hell ... I think good intentions are not sufficient, one also needs COMPETENCE, which I was lacking. Also there was a lack of support resources, I was doing this on my own without advice from somebody with experience).

	🚂 ♥ 2:22pm JETIO BOB: Hwaet. Last Tuesday we trapped a cat who had been coming around our house since February. I had been feeding it outside, but it was very wary of humans. Because of some things that happened here in the past, we jumped to a few conclusions. 1) that she was female and 2) that she was pregnant. We felt fairly sure of those things at the time but we were probably wrong.

	🚂 ♥ 2:23pm JETIO BOB: I contacted a few local TNR (trap-neuter-release) organizations. They were all hard to contact, didn't return calls, etc. Their websites said that they lent out traps, but when I finally got hold of staff people, they said all the traps were lent out.
	🚂 ♥ 2:24pm JETIO BOB: So, I just bought a Havahart trap. I was very surpised when it succeeded, on pretty much my first attempt to trap this cat, which by this point I had named "Mathilde"
	🚂 ♥ 2:24pm JETIO BOB: (When I named her, I didn't know that Mathilde means "Mighty in Battle". This detail is relevant. Nomen est omen.)
	🚂 ♥ 2:25pm JETIO BOB: She was clearly scared when the trap door snapped shut. I was watching through the window from inside. I went out, covered the trap with a blanket, and brought her in to the downstairs bathroom, where we thought she would give birth to a litter of adorable kittens.

	♥ 2:32pm ChukAmok: @Jetio Bob I have relied on the simultaneous use of several Have-A-Heart traps to remove opossums from the crawl space under my house. I felt guilty the first time, but when I released them into some woods about 10 miles away they seemed grateful for the apples and tunafish I used as bait. Very safe and humane from my experience.
	🚂 ♥ 2:33pm JETIO BOB: Our domestic cats Albert and Sonja were remarkably nonchalant about the feral cat in the bathroom. We thought they'd be upset, but they pretended not to notice. I'm sure they could smell something but there was no through-the-door interaction. Mathilde never made a peep. Chris, that photo was from the first day, but it didn't change too much.

	🚂 ♥ 2:34pm JETIO BOB: Anyhow, we tried again contacting the TNR associations, telling them we had done the "T" part and needed help with the "NR". And the reaction was - "You did WHAT? You have a feral cat in your BATHROOM now?"
	🚂 ♥ 2:35pm JETIO BOB: (Also, we're questioning the pregnancy, and thinking she might even be a he. Hard to get close enough to really do an examination).
	🚂 ♥ 2:35pm JETIO BOB: TreeHouse was booked out 3 months for spay appointments. Our house is starting to smell. Our cats are starting to get less cool about it. I'm starting to wonder if I made a huge mistake.

She hooks one claw right through my eyebrow. She's attached to my face, my wife helps get her off of me, and gets a good bite in her hand.

I'm using the utmost of my strength, and he's holding out one stiff-arm paw and going about his business unconcerned, grooming his face, reading a magazine, smoking a cigarette ... OH NO. 	🚂 ♥ 2:42pm JETIO BOB: Ha, no weapons in the house. So we close the door, and take ourselves to the urgent care clinic, get tetanus shots and antibiotics. They said we don't have to worry about rabies, it's not prevalent in this area. "Are you SURE?" I asked. "Yes", they assured me. At this point my concern was only for my well-being and that of my wife and I felt terrible for possibly exposing us to a deadly illness.
	🚂 ♥ 2:43pm JETIO BOB: But after multiple reassurances that we didn't have to keep the animal around for observation or autopsy, we decided we would just let her go.
	🚂 ♥ 2:44pm JETIO BOB: Even that was a bit of a saga, I locked Albert and Sonja upstairs and opened up all the doors downstairs, including the door that was keeping her in the bathroom. But she didn't leave.

	🚂 ♥ 2:46pm JETIO BOB: Eventually, she did. But well after midnight, after we had all gone to bed for the night. Mrs Y was not happy about going to bed with the front door propped open, but I didn't know what else to do.
	🚂 ♥ 2:46pm JETIO BOB: So, instead of Trap-Neuter-Release, it was Trap-Terrorize-Release. (The terrorizing was mutual).
	🚂 ♥ 2:47pm JETIO BOB: For a week, she was warm, dry, well-fed, and the scratches on her face healed up. But she hated every second of it, so I don't know if I did her any favors.

I think good intentions are not sufficient, one also needs COMPETENCE, which I was lacking. Also there was a lack of support resources, I was doing this on my own without advice from somebody with experience).
