	♥ 9:43pm slugluv1313: hiya NGH! i hope you are well! speaking of inner Goth-dom -- when did the term "Goth" come about? i mean, i was dressing all in black by the time i was 11 or 12 (well trying to, given that i was living with parents -- but they may not have minded? was not like red, which my Mom would bitch about having to wash separately) -- & black nail polish soon as i could get my hands on it, silver jewelry, etc. . . but this was 1970, 1971 -- so was more of an obsession with all things Occult, old black & white horror movies, Dark Shadows, etc. 🕸️💀🦇🖤

I always assumed the term Goth came to describe the music, as Gothic architecture, its large and grandiose forms, which didn't allow for much natural light. also created dimly lit spaces, and encroaching shadows, This is all compared to later architectural styles, so, later, anything dark, mysterious, and maybe sinister was labelled "Gothic". Also, when this was used as such an adjective, most standing Gothic architecture was in in ruins, making an even ghostlier visage.

To differentiate the subculture from New Romantics, etc. But that is probably more because that's when I first started to hear the term, totally unaware of its prior history.

(in the basement) & yes, Dave was great! hell most of the people who worked at Tower were amazing, still friends with some (it was the management that totally sucked & led to its demise) -- & i do the same! with CDs, books, records -- "I got this at Tower!" -- & if you ever were in the bookstore while Ween or Anita Lane or Shampoo was playing, that was my doing -- or, the Fabio CD -- whoever was in charge of the shift would sometimes throw that on, people in the store would be cracking up -- (thanks to FMU's DJ Bryce, i got that at the main Tower store at 4th & Broadway before i was even working there)

I always assumed the term Goth came to describe the music, as Gothic architecture, its large and grandiose forms, which didn't allow for much natural light. also created dimly lit spaces, and encroaching shadows, This is all compared to later architectural styles, so, later, anything dark, mysterious, and maybe sinister was labelled "Gothic". Also, when this was used as such an adjective, most standing Gothic architecture was in in ruins, making an even ghostlier visage.
