fredr:

Nice one here Nick. Greetings from somewhere inside NYC!
Avatar 7:06pm
djnogoodnick:

Hey fredr! That makes two of us..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:07pm
doctorjazz:

hello Nick and NudNicks! late in the day, but digging the morning vibe!
Avatar 7:08pm
djnogoodnick:

Thanks doc!! I sometimes love breakfast for dinner.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:16pm
zzz:

hey DJ, hey all! i liked that chassol, reminded me a bit of the melodic “pop” jim o’rourke stuff.
Avatar 7:18pm
djnogoodnick:

Hey Zzz!! Chassol's "ultrascores" are amaze. He sets them to audio/video footage in different settings. I highly recommend watching the whole album video of "Big Sun" which is set in Martinique.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm
doctorjazz:

The Grateful Dead's Morning Dew covers to mind, of course... (There were other versions as well).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm
zzz:

morning dew reminds you of what @doc? epic cover by them.

funny how diff sounds can elicit feelings of diff seasons. Nogoodnick i think you said these were spring sounds for you? that Alex De grassi gave me a late summer feel.
Avatar 7:35pm
djnogoodnick:

Haha it's all individual. I can hear it in late summer by by then I'm usually getting a little more heady. Spring for me has nice clean acoustic vibes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm
doctorjazz:

@zzz, figured you'd have something to say about that.
Avatar 7:38pm
djnogoodnick:

@Doc I admit to knowing hardly anything about the Dead because of the stigma attached to their fandom when I was a kid, but someday I will catch up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm
doctorjazz:

You either loved them or hated them, not too many people say in the middle ground (there are folks who don't like any Dead except Workingman's Dead and American Beauty, but they mostly fall in the haters group).
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:42pm
WR:

Listening while dining with family.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43pm
zzz:

i’m biased but the dead get a bad rap. they definitely had some eras where their jams/improvs had a flowy fusiony mellowness that i think you’d dig NGN
🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:43pm
Thomas:

Hi Nick and fellow ELS fans - music is great as usual - so hate to be the buzzkill - but am I the only one hearing the scratchy cut-off distortion? If so - I'll shut up...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43pm
doctorjazz:

This has a bit of a Joni feel...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45pm
zzz:

i’m listening on a portable speaker but mic break the talking sounded a bit fuzzy, @thomas
Avatar 7:45pm
djnogoodnick:

@WR Excellent! I like to think I'm family-friendly. Next week is my second annual Easter sunday kids music-themed show (not joking!)
Avatar 7:46pm
djnogoodnick:

@Thomas I can't hear anything through the monitor but did about an hour of testing before I came on and swapped out some cables to improve the sound. This week I guess I will be buying all new cables.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:50pm
doctorjazz:

Been listening at dinner with the family as well.
Nick, swapping cables, positively audiophile!
🎸 Swag For Life Member 7:53pm
Thomas:

I could be wrong - but doesn't sound like a cable problem - but worth a try... I'm listening on large MacIntosh and Polk Audio speakers - so I can hear every scratch pretty clearly...
  7:54pm
wenzo toad (it/it’s):

Lovely set

wenzo toad (it/it’s):

Goes well with the water gently lapping at the shore of the river
Avatar 7:55pm
djnogoodnick:

Well I hope it is. Apple has made it impossible to manage your own digital music collection anymore so I had to buy a crappy PC earlier this year and would hate to have to buy another one so soon.
Avatar 7:55pm
djnogoodnick:

@wenzo TY!! And welcome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:01pm
doctorjazz:

@Thomas, if you're listening on high end gear, you'll hear the compression of the digital audio stream. I also noticed different DJs on the stream have better or worse sound, likely related to the gear they're using. But it NEVER sounds as good as when I put an LP on.
Avatar 8:03pm
djnogoodnick:

I honestly would love some tips. I bought a Focusrite Scarlet interface because doing this all on one computer caused many a crash and my show would be canceled. And the levels seem alright but I have no idea.. should I lower the computer volume and amplify using the interface? It's been a nonstop nightmare this past year with Apple and all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:05pm
doctorjazz:

I do hear of folks managing digital music through a Mac Mini, though I think they often use aftermarket music management software like JRiver or Pure Music. But I'm a PC guy (always wanted to go Mac, but my office software is best oh a PC)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:06pm
doctorjazz:

But I don't know about streaming over the Internet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:08pm
doctorjazz:

I do hear that Uncle Michael has helped many of the DJs with set up. Jeff Moore also seems to be knowledgeable. (And, of course, Doug probably knows a thing or 2...
🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:09pm
Thomas:

I don't think it sounds like compression distortion... and as zzz mentioned - even Nick's voice on mike sounds scratchy - maybe you should try changing where you amplify - I really don't hear this on any other WFMU show...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm
doctorjazz:

Sounds the same here as usual (Kelly amp, Thiel speakers, song audiophile set up)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16pm
doctorjazz:

Been having dinner with my family, so the music is playing, but didn't listen closely to the announcements (sorry, Nick), will try to listen on the next ones. The music sounds as it usually does, as I noted above.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:17pm
doctorjazz:

There have been periodic short drop outs, though, also not an unusual thing on the stream.
Avatar 8:18pm
djnogoodnick:

I could definitely hear last week there was a problem, after I listened back (which I rarely have time to do)
Avatar 8:18pm
djnogoodnick:

Hence the cable swap
🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:19pm
Thomas:

Seems like it sounds better now - did you change something?
  8:20pm
headcleaner:

Your show is an education, Mr Nogood
Avatar 8:21pm
djnogoodnick:

I turned down the interface slightly so that it's all green and not yellow. But the monitor is all the way up and I can barely hear it!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:21pm
zzz:

i like this twang!
Avatar 8:22pm
djnogoodnick:

@headcleaner Will take that as a compliment!! And hope that some of these new artists get more attention, as well as the obscure oldies..
Avatar 8:22pm
spodiodi:

i think it sounds a little better

(and hello!)
🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:22pm
Thomas:

It definitely sounds a lot better - these vocals would be cutting off previously - now they sound clear - I just needed to turn up volume a bit to compensate for what you did
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm
doctorjazz:

I hear the old Cat Stevens Wild World off and on in Try.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm
doctorjazz:

Been a lovely show for sure!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm
doctorjazz:

The announcements sound fine to me...
🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:25pm
Thomas:

Your on mike talking sounds clear now also...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41pm
doctorjazz:

Another drop out here, just a few seconds (could be my wifi).
Avatar 8:42pm
djnogoodnick:

Oh dear, will have to listen back.
🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:44pm
Thomas:

Yeah - there are periodic drop-outs - not too bad... I hear those on other shows also...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:44pm
doctorjazz:

Same here, seems common on the streamed shows.
Avatar 8:45pm
djnogoodnick:

Interesting--does the stream kick back in? I pay top dollar for internet and have my stuff wired.
Avatar 8:45pm
djnogoodnick:

But of course Spectrum is my only option here.
🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:45pm
Thomas:

These drop outs are not long enough for the stream to kick in...
  8:46pm
headcleaner:

The remark was indeed positively meant, @Nogood. If some of these artists are less known or unknown it is because they are too good for this world
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:46pm
doctorjazz:

Sometimes the stream breaks through, but tonight I just get a second or 2 of silence, then back to the music.
🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:47pm
Thomas:

...otherwise sounding great now - I have a big smile on my face - just a wonderful show...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47pm
doctorjazz:

Most of the artists tonight were unknown to me, and it was a very lovely show. Thanks, DJnogoodnick!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48pm
doctorjazz:

(another momentary drop out there)
Avatar 8:48pm
northguineahills:

*slide in under the celeste* ok, barely made it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:51pm
doctorjazz:

Alex De Grassi is one of the names I knew, very pretty!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55pm
doctorjazz:

drop out for a second again there (not complaining, thought seemed you wanted to know).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55pm
doctorjazz:

Why is there an asterisk in the "special" column on some of the tunes?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:56pm
WR:

Hi NGH!

Thanks for the tunes Nick!

Laters all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:56pm
doctorjazz:

Thanks again, Nick!
Great week all!
Avatar 8:57pm
spodiodi:

great show, thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58pm
zzz:

thanks nogoodnick!
🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:59pm
Thomas:

Thanks Nick again for another great show - so glad we worked out the sound issue!
Avatar 9:00pm
djnogoodnick:

Wow, I guess I just have to keep it from clipping and have the monitor really quiet. That's really it? It sounds good now? Thanks for bearing with me!!
