My bins played at speaking tongues in Cleveland in August 1996. All natural lemon lime flavors. We had a blast. Our first and only show in Cleveland. We slept at a venue probably using our equipment cases as beds.

Nice. That was the first year it was open I think. First time I saw something there was in 1996.

I have only seen Black Dice once, with Gang Gang Dance and Battles in Central Park. Gang Gang Dance is quite possibly the best NYC band of the 2000s, and they are still amazing.

I realize hearing Gang of Four in something this noisy makes me think of Lou Reed’s various claims about what you could supposedly hear if you listened to METAL MACHINE MUSIC carefully enough. (A complete Beethoven symphony is the one I remember best.)

Thanks for that flyer archive, Smurph. I wish every venue everywhere— especially the long-gone ones, the teeny tiny ones, and the ones that doubled as someone’s basement — had such a page. I live in Buffalo and there are Facebook pages devoted to places like the Pipe Dragon (roughly akin to SIT, it sounds like)—but I suspect that’s not quite enough.

My favorite power cut show was Rome, who does lefty martial neofolk. The power cut and he said “ah crap I just did all my acoustic songs”
  4:12pm

He went ahead and did the rest of his set on acoustic guitar lit by a hundred phones and it was magical.

I saw a band called BobbyKork in a Philly basement called The Catbox and the power kept cutting out to complete darkness and just super heavy drums and the singer keeping the song going.
