Ribs were coming good, but a Cosmic Psychos show Friday night & a Band double last night at TRASH CULT means my ribs are strangely sore again.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23am Brian D:

Always tuned into Oz, Scott. What's up with the ribs?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26am Scott67:

Crashed my rusty old cruiser bicycle & landed hard on an immovable object mate.
But slowly on the mend, it was over 2 weeks ago now.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28am Brian D:

Yikes, get well soon, man.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31am Scott67:

Cheers mate, not my first rib Rodeo. But the worst one yet. Just takes as long as it takes. A bit like the Evolution of Human Consciousness.

Constellation often runs an ad in N+1, I wonder how that came about. Not many ads in there, and they usually are for other magazines
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36am Brian D:

I thought that we actually stopped evolving, @Scott. ;-)

I finished Harlem Shuffle by Colson Whitehead (and enjoyed it a lot), now reading a collection of Jill Johnston's articles (I'm a dance nerd). Does any of you have a recommendation for what I should read next?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17am Brian D:

Cheers, Scott. Colson Whitehead, like me, a former Village Voice writer. That's where the similarities end. I just started a Denise Mina novel.
Avatar 🗒 4:18am Don in Tampere:

Dang, there's another old song that starts with almost the same riff and I can't remember what it is!
  4:21am LiXiviated Life:

I thought Harlem Shuffle was. wry good read.
BBC 4 did a serial reading not too long ago.
Avatar 🗒 Swag For Life Member 4:24am fred:

I’ve got to stop tuning into late night radio
It screws up my sleep.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43am Brian D:

You can sleep during DAYTIME radio, Lix.
  4:45am LiXiviated Life:

… and I do
Avatar 🗒 Swag For Life Member 4:48am fred:

With the reach of the station, it's always daytime or nighttime. The sun never sets on the WFMU empire (or never rises, that might be a better fit)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48am Scott67:

I sleep through daytime radio. Because it's middle of the night here.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51am Scott67:

The fact that it's Summer in the Southern Hemisphere & Sunday night. Still seems to amaze some in the US.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56am Brian D:

Well said, Fred.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57am Brian D:

I'm going to wager a goodly percentage of Americans think that Australians speak "Australian," Scott.
Avatar 🗒 Swag For Life Member 4:59am fred:

@Brian: I hear you. I've been reading The American Conservative for years, but the quality plummeted recently (the architecture/urbanism section especially). I might have to go to National Review more often. I still want to read Dreher: I hate what he says, but he used to be articulate about it (less so lately)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03am Brian D:

@Fred, not a lot of "great" conservative thinkers on this side of the pond, I don't think. Not my end of the political spectrum, personally, but the lack of thought among many on that end means we don't really have an exchange of ideas any longer.
Avatar 🗒 Swag For Life Member 5:09am fred:

@Brian: Sad to hear. I want to read cogent takes I oppose, keeping to people I agree with is boring
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09am Scott67:

Met a lovely guy when managing a Backpackers in Tasmania. TJ from Washington, said when he phoned his Mum & said he was in Tasmania. His Mum said Tasmania!? I thought you were in Australia, not Africa!
TJ did admit that he was expecting to have to Change his Australian Money on arrival in Tasmania.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11am Brian D:

Keeping to people we agree with is also dangerous, Fred. And you're right. Now, to be fair, I'm only basing my assessment on the op-ed columnists in the newspapers I read.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12am Brian D:

I'm surprised his parents had heard of Tasmania, outside of the Bugs Bunny cartoons, Scott.
Avatar 🗒 Swag For Life Member 5:15am fred:

I guess the tasmanian devil character is the sum total of what many "know" about Tasmania
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15am Scott67:

The same Looney Toons Cartoon which depicted the Tasmanian Devil terrorizing African Animals.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16am Brian D:

Right. Sad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16am Brian D:

To me, learning about opposing views isn't just oppo research. It's about understanding where they're coming from. And sometimes, they can be right
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26am Brian D:

Dialogue is vital, Fred.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27am Scott67:

Lived there for a couple of years early 90's. Bloody magnificent place. But Corporate arseholes wanna put a cable car up Kunanyi / Mt. Wellington. Which overlooks Hobart. Something I am passionately against.
Avatar 🗒 Swag For Life Member 5:41am fred:

@Brian: I draw the line at xenophobia/racism. I had an argument about that with fellow leftists two days ago. The moment you go there, I'm not just tuning out, I'm actively opposing you. Which means nothing, but still
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45am Scott67:

Australia's shame!! It disgusts me.
Avatar 5:47am Heidee:

Good morning all!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48am Brian D:

Good place to draw the line, Fred. And Scott, plenty of shame to go around on that front, sadly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48am Brian D:

Hi Heidee!
Avatar 5:49am Heidee:

Avatar 🗒 Swag For Life Member 5:50am fred:

That we can feel shame about our country is sad (we didn't do it) but also hopeful (we can demand better, maybe)
