Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Matt Fiveash:

So shocking and upsetting to hear about Dallas the other day. Sadies were one of those bands that I was looking forward to seeing again and again, they were such road warriors that I knew they'd come back as soon as it was feasible. Never take any of the good stuff in life for granted.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm medson:

Hey Joe. Good to be here.

Dallas Good died??!!! Oh no! What a f***ing shame! A piece of my Toronto just died too. Huge blow to the Good dynasty, and huge sadness for me. Damn!
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Alvy Singer:

@ Joe B...The cycle of life continues as we lose so many talented artist. The music will live forever though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Robyn Hitchcock :
' There’s something numbing and anodyne about tributes - perhaps this helps to mute the pain we feel when a really great person goes. Dallas Good from The Sadies was such a person, and he passed on suddenly this week. He and his brother Travis were the 6’4” rangy multi-instrumentalists that bookended the stage when The Sadies unleashed their dazzling psychedelic twang on audiences around the world. The Sadies are the true Canadian heirs to the Band - inhaling life and exhaling music wherever they go. They live to play and play to live like no other band I know.
They’ve also always been happy to pitch their musical tent somewhere between “Sweethearts Of The Rodeo” and “Piper At The Gates of Dawn”, which drew me right in when I met them in 2002 at Calgary Folk Festival. Dallas taped a message to the door of my hotel room inviting me to join them for some Syd Barrett songs onstage the next day, and we went on from there; I’ve joined them in Winnipeg, Oslo, San Francisco, London and Switzerland to name just a few…
Dallas was a kindly man - he had high musical standards but he liked to welcome strayfarers into the warm embrace of Sadie, as he always called the band. My heart goes out to his family, band mates and friends - to all who loved him - but I also harbour a terrible selfish grief that I’ll never get to play music with him again in this lifetime. I’m sure many of us feel that way. It’s just an awful shock, for which words are no consolation. So long Dallas, I hope to see you out there some day… '

Shameful ignorance of TheSadies. That unique bittersweet & difficult ambiguity of an Obituary Discovery. Music lives on.

that dual-fretted guitar thing that Dallas and Travis did was one of the most incredible things I've ever seen at a show.

Last time I saw Dallas was when he was playing with Shadowy Men. Played bass for them then a full Sadies set. It was wonderful. This one hit hard. Rest in power you absolute giant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Barney Grubbs:

thanks Joe. Sadies are so nice. Got to hang out with them very briefly long ago when they opened/backed Jon Spencer’s Heavy Trash thing in Lebanon NH. They were friendly, seemingly very high, and went on to play a great set. (Why would anybody live here? became my theme for too many snowy NH mornings)

Avatar 12:48pm John L:

I've been listening to them for years, but I was just reminded of Rank and File.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Barney Grubbs:

@Rev: It’s a story for another time, but Jon Spencer’s dad Tom was a chemistry professor at Dartmouth (he retired a few years back), which I think is what made the unlikely stop in Lebanon happen
  12:48pm Andres:

Hey, Joe. Afternoon, all. I first saw Dallas Good play with Jad Fair and then later with The Sadies in what would be a countless number of occasions. Another great combo was with friends Shadowy Men On A Shadowy Planet where he played bass after Reid Diamond passed away. The two bands combined for an unforgettable Alice Cooper tribute show. Gone way too soon. Leaves behind a huge legacy of music and always incredible live performances.

  12:57pm Nick:

Great tribute. Knew Dallas when the Sadies were a three-piece.
  12:57pm Mark in Toronto:

We have a rich, colourful and diverse music scene in Toronto that only rarely "breaks through" to the USA or the world at large. Nice that the Sadies became well known.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Just from a Gittarhead pov - he was clearly something.

@Nick - wow, did not know they were a three-piece!
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Tim 07030:

Yeah, we were talking about the costumes the band wore for that show and Dallas very politely but adamantly corrected me when I said I thought he had been dressed as a vampire. I wish I could remember what he WAS dressed as.

I dig that Phono-Comb album with Jad Fair.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm StringOFperils:

The Sadies' resident New Years Eve gigs at the Horseshoe Tavern were rowdy and memorable and very drunk. The band rode a wave of insanity up there on that stage...I remember Dallas dropping out mid solo, leaping off the stage, and wailing the crap out of some abusive a-hole harassing him right at the stage....a guy who got summarily punished, and then it was right back to work. Hardcore, road-proven, and a picture of hard life on the road....even at home.
Avatar 1:03pm Joe B:

@Jack - i think that is how/why they formed - to back up jad fair
Avatar 1:03pm Joe B:

Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 1:10pm chris_in_space:

If we're reminiscing, I remember seeing Dallas in his punk band The Satanatras in Toronto, long before The Sadies formed.

Had a friend who lived with Dallas for a while. We were hanging out and Dallas came home with a pedal steel, claiming he didn't know how to play it. He plugged it in an immediately started playing simple country licks on it. I'll never forget it. Was c. 1999.

The only time I got to see The Sadies was at Maxwell's; amazing show. Also the night I became a fan of the Ribeye Brothers.
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 1:14pm Frank In Queens:

Hi everyone. Sorry I missed the first hour or so, but it looks like you've done a hell of a job with the Dallas tribute so far Joe. Thank you for doing this.
Avatar 1:15pm Joe B:

@John L - was that when there was a massive heat wave in June of whatever year that was?

Greetings from sunny FL Joe! Hifivicky and I are headed to the beach tomorrow. This Sadies tribute is delightful. I regret not seeing them live.
Avatar 👻 1:16pm Hoboken Jack:

Hey Frank. Yeah Joe has done a lovely job. HP, when the pancake call summons, it must be heeded.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm StringOFperils:

You're right, Joe B; Phono-Comb was one of several collaborative projects based around Jad Fair around that time. WFMU's own (so to speak) Yo La Tengo joined him for another. Jad had played here several times before that, with quite a bit of success I'd say, considering how - ha ha- Jad Fair it all was. Don Pyle may have spearheaded Phonocomb w Jad...he's a pretty busy fellow. He had another post-Shadowy Men band called Atomic Seven...also really good
Avatar 👻 1:17pm Hoboken Jack:

Greetings Hoboken Jack! It's in the 80s and the sun is shining here in Cape Coral, FL. WFMU is playing poolside rn.
  1:25pm Nick:

I think Atomic 7 was Brian, not Don.

Sadies as a three-piece was Dallas, Sean on electric snd Ted on drums.
  1:27pm Mark in Toronto:

@Nick: You're right about Brian Connelly basically being Atomic 7. He also had a great band that played around town called Ancient Chinese Secret.

I think K8's flying over your neighborhood right now, Hubig!
  1:28pm ?:

Besides Phono-Comb, don't forget that Dallas Good was actually a member of Half Japanese from 1997-2001. He plays lead gtr on Half Jap's "Heaven Sent" and "Hello" LPs, which have some great tracks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm StringOFperils:

@Nick > You're right, that WAS Brian Connelly's band. My bad! I think I connect him cuz I saw Don at The Gem, this little obscure bar where Atomic 7 workshopped all the time...I'm still rubbing those two brain cells together I guess. Thanks!

No - you're essentially Trolling two funerals - one which hasn't even happened yet. That's how pathetic - how rude you are.
