@Joe B. Chuck Portz, the original bassist of the Crossfires/Turtles is a longtime friend of mine. We both lived in the Port city of Los Angeles, San Pedro, home of the Minutemen. Chuck got a taste of what life with a hit rock band would be like back in the 60s and chose to follow a different path(he was an abalone fisherman for several years). He did write "Grim Reaper of Love," though, one of my favorite Turtles tunes.
