Favoriting Acid Jazz Hands with Bronwyn Bishop: Playlist from January 21, 2022 Favoriting

Musical theater from off the beaten path. Obscure and unusual show tunes from within the canon and without, flops, failures, and the newest works from up-and-coming artists—plus tried-and-true hits. Also, occasional appearances from songs that are not show tunes (but only if they go really well with show tunes).

Saw Derek Jacobi on B'way in the play about Alan Turing on a day this cold. All drama zapped because the bus tour group drivers decided to stay warm by keeping the fire-escape doors open and staying half-in/half-out of the theater, creatin a killer draft. Oh, and the diesel buses idling the whole time.

Listener Gregory:

Hey, Bronwyn, listening from the future. I thought maybe you left off a song from the list, because I was hearing a piano arrangement of "Never Gonna Dance" around 22 min into the archive. But... that's by Jerome Kern, so I wonder if "You're Devastating" was an early version of that song. Or maybe you played two songs from that album?

Webhamster Henry:

Just popping in from the future! "I Could Love A Million Girls" in the Movie Ragtime is an excellent depiction and staging of this kind of entertainment. It might have been harder to pull off onstage with Donald O'Connor!
