First show - New Year's Eve 2014, the year I moved back to Austin. She played outside at Spider House cafe and ballroom. It was freezing out. We got there early. Got front, center stage. By the time everyone was packed in there like sardines, it wasn't too bad, the cold. I was right there! Every song was perfect and stories were so great between the songs!! She did a few encores and then right before she was done, it started drizzling. Right after that, Shannon & The Clans we're playing inside. It was a perfect New Year's Eve!!❤️🙌🎤🌟
  12:35pm Pat Olds:

Check out “Ronnie Spector - Be My Baby plus interview (Letterman show - 1983)” on YouTube. She tells Dave how she took the Beatles to Harlem for BBQ, because nobody knew them up there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Dano59:

I'm sitting here with Alan Betrock's book and all the late-career Ronnie stuff I played over the weekend (and on radio on Sat.) and I love how you tied it all together, @Joe B - threading linkages to 1980 and Marshall and Todd and Joey ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm patrick321:

Hey Joe and all.
I'm still not tired of all the excellent personal approaches to the Ronnie Spector tribute, and your set is right up there, thanks.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:38pm Candy-O'67:

2nd show - 2016 or 2017 Christmas show (need to check my poster) Paramount Theatre, Austin. Wanda Jackson opened. Another legend! She had young backup singers with her and they played a lot of old clips of interviews and shows of Ronettes! So amazing again! Absolutely magical night! I'm so, so happy I got to experience her twice!!!🙌🙌🙌❤️❤️❤️
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm Dano59:

1st show - Tarrytown Music Hall, Dec. 15 2011. Joe McGinty in/leading the band, Ronnie sharing childhood memories; rocking set true to form. I forget who the stand-in Ronettes were. Teased-up beehives were de rigeuere.

Sadly I never saw Ronnie perform. I did see her exit a black car and walk into the back stage entrance of the Beacon Theater after a Brian Wilson show in 2000(-ish). She got a nice cheer from those of us lingering there after the show.

Such a bummer about Rachel, too. Seen Detroit Cobras many times. My best memory of seeing them was one night in Houston when I was back visiting from CA. I think it was Todd who was talking on Saturday about how great Ronnie Spector's live shows were, compared to many other stars of her era who were basically doing Motown and other oldies revues. What's so remarkable to me is how she brought that same contemporary (relatively speaking) approach to her recordings, performing songs like the ones you've been playing today that were composed by Marshall Crenshaw, Amy Rigby, the Ramones, etc. It says so much about her as a musician and a person.

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 1:04pm efd:

@Dennis What Joe said! So great that you got to experience that. I was thinking a lot about Joey Ramone, too, how it must have been mind-blowing for him to grow up hearing, as you say, *that* voice, and then to become a friend and collaborator. And of course the same is true for you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm Baja Joe:

Ronnie Spector covering Amy Winehouse. Wow. Very nicely done. Love them both.

that's what George said, Joe B. and 'I tried to write a Ronettes type song'. I think Phil got sick during the sessions that February. (differing reports). There's some demo/rehearsal takes of him, no Ronnie tho. He also said Ronnie had made a pass at another of his songs.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Dano59:

He Did It from '61 or '62, all on its own, I think qualifies the Ronettes as the greatest rock act ever. As Sasha Frere-Jones wrote last week, it's easy to assess the Ronettes' qualities without Phil as part of the equation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Cooh John:

I heard that interview, Dano59.
