Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24am Brian D:

What's for lunch, Paulo?
Avatar 3:26am HyperDose:

Big D put on a good show tonight. You here to pick up the pentacostal pieces, Nutt?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27am Brian D:

Thanks, Hyper. Got to with the Sinner here.
Avatar 🗒 3:32am Don in Tampere:

Paolo, here it's late Sunday breakfast and starting a new batch of bread. Currents is great for that too
Avatar 3:33am HyperDose:

As if you didn't already put on a culturally necessary show, B.D. Appreciate you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33am Brian D:

You are too kind, Hyper.
Avatar 🗒 Swag For Life Member 3:37am Paulo AD:

@Paulo AD Glad you're back on semi-local soil. Missed you, friend
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02am Scott67:

G'day Brian & Current Crew.
I'm out here, but a bit too tired to follow the chat closely tonight.
Did 2, 3 hours Show recordings in 2 days. Then a 12 hour session at TRASH CULT yesterday.
Avatar 🗒 Swag For Life Member 4:02am Paulo AD:

HD fingers crossed this year we can do NYC. Kezza informed me last night she's applied for a job in Queens!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04am Brian D:

Great to have you as always, Scott. Sounds like you're busy in a good way.
Avatar 4:04am Joe B:

Hey Brian and everyone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05am Brian D:

Wow, Paulo. Good luck to her. And greetings, Joe. Man, FMU royalty listening in tonight. I better be on top of my game.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06am Īkė:

Greetings, humans! Ate too many dark-chocolate-covered pretzels earlier, still thrumming from the sugar, playing silly games on this accursed phone while listening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07am Scott67:

Brian, the getting a TRASH CULT Radio Show together to put on Sheena's Jungle Room is a great thing. Doing a 12 hour drinking session in TRASH CULT Bar, probably not so healthy.😉 But some great people to share time with.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09am Brian D:

Greetings, Ike. Ate my fill of those LAST weekend. And great news for Sheena Scott! Great stuff. The show part. The sesh, well...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10am Scott67:

G'day Ike!😎🤙
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11am Scott67:

G'day Paulo & HyperD!
  4:17am fab:

I guys, kiss from italy. great radio!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19am Brian D:

Ciao Fab. Grazie.
  4:34am LiXiviated Life:

What time is it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42am Ike:

@Scott, what’s the timeslot going to be, do you know yet?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44am Ike:

Re: Anna K., the translations make a difference. I prefer any translation NOT by Constance Garnett. Those are rampant because they’re public domain IIRC. Garnett often rushed and also, as a Victorian type, occasionally chopped out the saucy bits.
  4:44am LiXiviated Life:

Norwegian Wood - Haruki Murakami
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45am Scott67:

Ike, if I get my shit together this week, learn the software & do a successful Test Broadcast. Mr.Fab will lock 5pm-8pm Saturday on Sheena's Jungle Room Stream.
  4:46am LiXiviated Life:

If you prefer a longer read try
The Windup Bird Chronicles
aso by H Murakami
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50am Brian D:

Thank you, Lix. I'm hit or miss on Murakami. Loved After Dark and many of his short stories, but didn't like 1Q84. But, I'm willing to try him again.
  4:51am LiXiviated Life:

Do they still broadcast
Avatar 🗒 Swag For Life Member 4:52am fred:

Good morning Brian and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53am Brian D:

They define news loosely, Lix. And interesting, Ike. I'll have to see who did the translation I'm reading.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53am Brian D:

  4:53am LiXiviated Life:

Just finished his most recent
First Person Singular.
(collection of short stories)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54am Brian D:

That might be my speed, Lix.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57am Scott67:

G'day Fred. 😎🤙
  5:04am LiXiviated Life:

Everything tells a story.
Now I’m thinking of
All the times I’ve
walked through someone’s house
after a fire.
The fire tells the story of its life
Where it began and how.
It’s journey t
How it grew
Obstacles it faced
It’s influence and impact
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08am Ike:

@Brian, to be fair, some are quite fond of Garnett’s translations. It’s a matter of taste. I prefer the Pevear and Volokhonsky translation.
  5:11am LiXiviated Life:

The people in the house have their story
Sometimes an easy read
Sometimes it’s more dense
Most are tragic
Once in a while it’s a comedy
Truth is
I prefer the fires story
Avatar 🗒 Swag For Life Member 5:17am fred:

There were two articles about translation in the latest issue of n+1. Interesting stuff from two very different angles
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29am Ike:

Re: crime rates, also interesting to note NYC has a pretty low crime rate by U.S. standards, contrary to what the NY Post or other such Rupert Murdoch outlets would have us believe. Many smaller cities are far more violent per capita.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31am Brian D:

Very true, Ike. See Bridgeport, CT, Washington, DC, New Orleans...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35am Brian D:

And I love cities, Ike. To be clear. I lived in Bridgeport and worked at the paper there for a bit.
Avatar 🗒 Swag For Life Member 5:39am fred:

There's also the issue of what gets counted as crime. I was robbed 4 times, 2 were not by cops, and one of these was by a guy who had an "agreement" with local cops (also, a knife). I guess the official count ignored some of these

Re: Clyde Bellecourt
"Leonard Peltier Is America’s Longest-Serving Political Prisoner. Biden May Be His Last Hope."
Avatar 🗒 Swag For Life Member 5:42am Brian in UK:

Hello Brian & folks.

Just started reading Lee Miller's War. I am fascinated by her. The articles for Vogue in '44/45 are to the point as are her photographs. Rumours that Kate Winslet will portray her in film have been around for several years now.
Avatar 🗒 Swag For Life Member 5:45am fred:

@morphe': I guess he's doomed then. That Peltier is still imprisoned is a shame, but Biden isn't going to set him free. What would be in it for him?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46am Brian D:

Lies, damn lies and statistics, Fred. I've been mugged twice -- both 30+ years ago and neither reported by me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46am Brian D:

Hello, Morphe, and spot on re: Leonard Peltier.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47am Brian D:

Hello Brian and thanks for the recommendation re: Lee Miller's War. Hadn't heard that about Winslet, actually.

One of my favorite Miles series of tracks…..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51am Brian D:

Percussionist, DJ and renaissance man James Mtume on percussion, @north. Passed away this week.
Avatar 5:54am Toutevoix:

hello out there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56am Brian D:

Everyone, my time is almost up... for this week's show, that is. Thank you for joining me, stay safe and have a great week.
Avatar 5:56am Toutevoix:

....Get up with it ....
Avatar 🗒 Swag For Life Member 5:57am Brian in UK:

James Mtume had a track named for him on Miles' Get Up With It. The opener He Loved Him Madly amazes me. Miles is very low key on that album.
Avatar 5:59am Toutevoix:

yes Brian same feeling here, this album is something profound
  5:59am morphe':

Thanks BD and all !!
