A different show every week! Rotating DJs include Jon Nelson's "Sheena 'ssembly Required" (Tape Manipulations, Digital Deconstructions and Turntable Creations),
MarkTime (vintage radio airchecks), and Krys O (aka Sister Krys - WFMU alumna 1985-1991, longtime Church of the Subgenius monk. Playing cinematic ephemera, schizoid weirdos, all styles served here). Plus: surprise guests galore. (illustration courtesy of https://www.jimflora.com/)

Oh yeah! Bob & Ray are the best.

Cool tune reminds me of the Waitresses

I almost pulled a few Bob & Ray clips for my show tonight, but then changed my mind at the last minute.

So much Bob & Ray out there, only a very small chance of repeats

Always love to hear more Bob & Ray on the streamwaves.

Every time I find new Bob & Ray, I'm always pleased to realize that there's probably more than I can consume at the pace I've been moving.

I was in despair when they ended their run at WOR in the 70s. Cried my eyes out. I used to run home from school to listen with my mom.

Howdy, what's wiggling?

I'm too young to have caught them back in the day, but I'm just the right age for public radio re-runs, so I used to hear them all the time growing up. In a way, the perfect way to hear them is to sort of miss the beginning, and then suddenly dial past it. Usually there was enough for me to dial back.

As a child, stuff like this was how I usually came across Bob & Ray:

Thanks to tape trading the early 90s was my first intro to Bob & Ray. Heck, might have been through MarkTime (or Don-O or another old pal, Bob Nelson).
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:11pm
austinrich:

I was the child of a public radio volunteer, and as a youth dated the daughter of a librarian, so I was checking out Bob & Ray tapes from the library. (Probably the only kid my age doing that too.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm
Krys O.:

My whole family listened to the WOR shows. We even waited until the episode was done before we headed off to Thanksgiving dinner at my sister's house one year.

Hi Mark T, folks!
Avatar 🎸 8:13pm
MarkTime:

I first heard of Bob & Ray from some ABC TV late night show in the early 70s, when they had some random comedy shows the Dick Cavett show ended and Nightline began
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:13pm
austinrich:

I know that Don Joyce mentioned on his show, when he tackled Bob & Ray, that they used scripts, but you could never tell what constituted a scirpt. (A few words, or plenty of notes.) When I listen, it sounds scripted... but I would also believe that they are just that good, an improvised it all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:14pm

Bob is wearing the coolest tie.

We loved the film Cold Turkey because of B&R.

Mary Noble, Backstage Wife?

There it is. I've never heard the original, so I only knew that from trivia originally anyway.

I only have heard a couple of Bob & Ray LPs released around 1970. This is much much better than anything I remember from then.
Avatar 8:19pm
Mr Fab:

My dad was a fan, so I knew of them at a pretty early age.
Dad is also a Dr Demento fan, used to see Tom Lehrer live when our fam still lived in NYC, and took me to Monty Python at the Hollywood Bowl when I was like 14. So there might be something to this whole genetics thing after all.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:19pm

I recommend the cassettes I checked out of the Cottage Grove library when I was in High School in 1990. If you can find those tapes... damn they were good.

You are my new hero, Mr. Fab. Tom Lehrer? I used to know those albums front to back.

"getting the pink bus cleaned up" - sounds like a euphemism for something.

It was always fun when B&R played music. They used to play Pee Wee King's Slow Poke and Arthur Godfrey's Too Fat Polka quite regularly.

Is that how the original Mamet version went? "Always Be Chesterfield!"

Mamet was into product placement, right?

I love it when they actually crack each other up. They're usually so good at keeping things straight, so when they break, it's just gold.

I love the random Peter Lorre impression. "Peter Gorey," ha.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 8:48pm

I've been meaning to mention this, Mark: I know a DJ out here, on a station in Eugene, who goes by Mark Time. He used to play in the punk band, The Jars. He still does radio, but Covid has sort of made it difficult. You know how it is.

I'm there for almost any Peter Lorre impression.
