	12:45pm Listener Robert: Since you've been playing the longer clip for your intro, we can surmise more of what it's about. It doesn't contradict my previous assumption that Rick and his wife had recently taken opposite sides in the argument, but it adds more motivation than just a desire to needle her. She'd probably been complaining that he's a cheapskate, but now he has a reason to appear not to be one: business. She doesn't know he's meeting someone for business. The business -- what he's paying this guy for -- is presumably the main object of the play, but it will be augmented by contretemps when she figures out it was for a business meeting. Practically writes itself.

	12:55pm Listener Robert: You're not alone, I think he's supposed to have genuine affection for her, because that's the way these things work in drama, and largely in real life as well. So I think he'll be bothered that she's miffed, even after he tells her, well, you knew what business I'm in, but then she'll notice some important clue that she'll threaten to withhold from him unless he makes some concession for the future. How serious she is about that threat will be up for the audience to decide.

It doesn't contradict my previous assumption that Rick and his wife had recently taken opposite sides in the argument, but it adds more motivation than just a desire to needle her. She'd probably been complaining that he's a cheapskate, but now he has a reason to appear not to be one: business. She doesn't know he's meeting someone for business. The business -- what he's paying this guy for -- is presumably the main object of the play, but it will be augmented by contretemps when she figures out it was for a business meeting. Practically writes itself.

	12:55pm Listener Robert: You're not alone, I think he's supposed to have genuine affection for her, because that's the way these things work in drama, and largely in real life as well. So I think he'll be bothered that she's miffed, even after he tells her, well, you knew what business I'm in, but then she'll notice some important clue that she'll threaten to withhold from him unless he makes some concession for the future. How serious she is about that threat will be up for the audience to decide.
