BTW, Stan Getz does a fabulous version of "Windows" on the "Sweet Rain" LP in case you have never heard it!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:18pm
KimSorise:

Nice, he plays with Chick Corea on that LP. It's his tune - so that's nice. Thanks.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:19pm
Pauly from Clifton:

Kip, thanks for that Stan Getz info. I have not heard it, but discogs has some affordable LPs. Looks like one will be mine.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:21pm
Discotech Underground:

You bet, Pauly! The "Captain Marvel" LP with Chick, Airto and Stanley Clarke is pretty great, also!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:21pm
KimSorise:

Yay! Buy more records!

Hey, got some Greasy Kid Stuff?

HI Kim and all!!!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:23pm
KimSorise:

Hey Doc Jazz, I think I am going to do a premium around this idea - but with a different name of course... WFMU already had a Greasy Kids Stuff show
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:23pm

Hey, Will the Sound Guy! Welcome

Hey Jeff - welcome

Those Tone Poets are nice LPs (not inexpensive, though)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:30pm
doctorjazz:

Hey, Kip!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:30pm
KimSorise:

Very true, DocJazz. I have 3 - they do sound great
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:31pm
Jeff Golick:

What are the Tone Poet series? Remasters?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:33pm
KimSorise:

yes, The Tone Poet series is produced by Joe Harley and features all-analog, 180g audiophile vinyl reissues that are mastered from the original master tapes by Kevin Gray of Cohearent Audio. Tone Poet vinyl is manufactured at RTI in Camarillo, California, and packaged in deluxe Stoughton Printing “Old Style” Gatefold Tip-On Jackets.

It's my favorite one thus far - DocJazz
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:36pm
KimSorise:

A buddy of mine has nearly all of the series.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:40pm
Uncle Michael:

Howdy.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:40pm
doctorjazz:

Blue Note has been very annoying with the reissue series...over the last few years they have reissued LPs as the Connoisseur series, the 45 rpm series, the Tone Poet series, methinks they're a bit exploitive of the "vinyl resurgence".
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:44pm
Jeff Golick:

A record company...exploitative!? Say it ain't so.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:46pm
doctorjazz:

Hahaha

So many great jazz musicians I’ve never heard of!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:55pm

Hello WR! Welcome to you. I hope you are well.
Good Afternoon DL in LA! So glad you could tune in.
Enjoy!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:57pm
doctorjazz:

DL in LA...used to think I was pretty well versed in jazz. FMU put me in my place (but I learn a lot, a good thing...)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:57pm
Discotech Underground:

Very nice selections, tonight! They have just the right modal feel for my tastes in jazz.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:03pm
doctorjazz:

This reminds me a bit of the 5th Dimension.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:04pm
doctorjazz:

Our maybe tune from a show I never saw...
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:05pm
KimSorise:

Surface level, very much so DocJazz... but Charles Stepney challenges that pretty heavily
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:05pm
Discotech Underground:

doctorjazz-Reminded me a little of the girls who used to sing with Sergio Mendes and Brazil 66.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:09pm
doctorjazz:

The Fifth Dimension were actually pretty hot in their performances in the movie Summer of Soul.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:10pm
doctorjazz:

Cool Hendrix cover!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:10pm
KimSorise:

That performance was amazing - but the LPs were a bit square
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:10pm
Discotech Underground:

Some of the Fifth Dimension's songs are excellent! The production and arrangement are amazing. "Don't You Hear Me Callin' To Ya" sounds great cranked up!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:11pm

My mom was a Fifth Dimension fan so they are kind of a gulity pleasure for me.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:12pm
KimSorise:

Hey Coel! Welcome
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:14pm
doctorjazz:

My mom loves Tony Orlando and Dawn, not exactly a guilty pleasure, but a sentimental one...(she thought she was so hip because of it... It was cute)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:14pm

5th dimention's age of aquarius album may've been my first *new* album
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:15pm

(xmas present)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:16pm
Discotech Underground:

My mom would put her Fifth Dimension albums on the house record player (a big Magnavox console thing that was the size of a small couch) and clean house to it. Not everything they did was great but there are some gems in that catalog, though.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:17pm
Discotech Underground:

Check out the track "Too Poor To Die" sometime...it's as heavy as any Wilson PIckett record. Billy Davis smokes on that track!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:22pm
doctorjazz:

Nice Rotary Connection set!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:24pm
doctorjazz:

We had one of those big consoles, stereo. TV, radio, living room furniture...
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 8:26pm
Discotech Underground:

Absolutely! It was probably about five feet in length, stood about waist high, had a turntable in one side, a radio in the other with record storage in between. The thing weighed a ton!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29pm
