Wow, Handy! 1916? My dad was born in 1922 and I was the caboose baby, youngest of 5 with a large gap of 16 years between myself and the eldest.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:35am Threemoons:

@HH that's amazing RE 1916!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37am Lizardner Dave !:

I too am the youngest of 5 and 16 years younger than my oldest sibling...also 9 years, 4 months o younger than my nearest sibling but only 9 years, 3 months older than my oldest nephew. Our family is weird, I guess.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:39am Brian in UK:

TDK60, thank you.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:40am Handy Haversack:

Yeah, he was 58 when I was born, so I was a little late on the scene. Youngest of three by eleven and thirteen years. He was definitely a scenester before he was with my mom -- friends with Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington at various points. They left Manhattan in '61: my dad worked at bars and restaurants in the Village and was still following the music scene there and told me he had noticed it was starting to get pretty weird!

When I first came to NY in '93, there were still places in the village where he had worked and where I could get a free meal by mentioning his name.

Carl Stalling was given free reign over the Warner's catalogue when constructing those Looney soundtracks.

  9:45am egould310:

Listening to Surface Noise in Eastern Time Zone time. So weird.

Enjoying the tunes here in Saratoga Springs, NY.
  9:47am Listener Robert:

Mr. Bodah does have a way with that sort of thing. One night I saw from the playlist that the set included one whose title was ABSOLUTELY FILTHY, and I wondered how he was going to negotiate that. He back announced, digressed increasingly, and by the time he got to where that one would've been, he talked long enough that everyone could forget about it. Brilliant!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am David (in London):

Handy, it was an absolute joy. I really, really enjoyed it. To paraphrase Sham 69: if the Runzas united, they will never be divided.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:47am YETI BOB:

"Songs Bugs Bunny Taught Us" is such a good title, I have to say, hats off to Ira

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:06am Threemoons:

I found a very effective sleep aid but am still titrating amount so that I can actually function in the morning---good old Delta 8 syrup, available legally in NY via mail order. The recommended amount is between half a tablespoon and two tablespoons; one and a half TEASPOONS stirred into my vodka on the rocks turns me into a mellow piece of furniture.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:06am YETI BOB:

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Fortunately I can sort of ease into my work day since I work as a contractor and I set my own hours. I'm on my second cup of black tea now. This music is beautiful, haven't picked up the new Steve Gunn LP yet but looking forward to it! Also have tix to see Steve and Jeff Parker when they pass through Chicago (separate sets, I don't think they're going to play together although I'd love it if they did!)

I had a friend in college who's family were from Appalachia. His grandfather and older relatives worked in the coal mines and in the winter, if there was no 'shine to keep them warm, they would drink something called a Blue Lizard: snow mixed with a splash of anti-freeze.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 10:22am Threemoons:

@Stanley I remember Night Nurse from my year in London ages ago. Do they still have the lemon-flavored one with a smidgen of codeine in it?

Wazmo Nariz! I used to see him all the time!
  11:43am Glistener MW:

So grateful for all the times I got to see Nash live before his passing. Did anyone else ever see him perform his live sync-score to “Nosferatu”?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am David (in London):

You know from the first note that is Mick Karn on bass.
Avatar 11:44am Joe McG:

Nash the Slash would be excited to be so fondly remembered here, I think.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 11:45am Krys O.:

Yes, the late Mick Karn was unique.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46am McGroovey:

I almost saw FM live in Montreal in 1979 but we gotta kicked out because one of us was 15. The joke was, we were all underage. The rest of us were 16. Anyway, that was a Nashless incarnation of FM we missed.

Thanks Joe - fun selection

When I was a freshman in college I had a Japan poster. It said "Get into..Japan"...and had a hand stuffed into the zipper opening.

(She was straggling behind outside waiting for a friend, so the rest of us went in and got a table, and I think we'd actually already ordered beers from the waitress. They let the 15-year-old in so she could come tell us they weren't letting her in.

Canada is a mellower place. )
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50am Rich in Washington:
