Greetings, Earthlings!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:59pm Mr Fab:

Some of you may recall MarkTime's fantastic voyage to vintage radio during his guest spot on our old Aloha Friday show. Very happy to welcome him as a regular guest here in The Wiggle Room.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:00pm Aitch:

In for a peek
Avatar 8:01pm Feldpausch:

Howdy y'all
Avatar 8:02pm Otis:

Almost made a wrong turn at the oven but made it the freezer for the ice cream and ready to flashback to MarkTime airchecks (flashing my tape trading self back 25 years to when we tape traded Mark). Howdy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:03pm Mr Fab:

Hey Otis! We got the sounds to cure any brainfreeze.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:03pm Aitch:

You guys are nuts.
But that's good thing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:03pm spodiodi:

*wiggles in*
aloha, MarkTime and everyone!
Avatar 8:05pm Otis:

Well pour me another Super Big Gulp, Fab!
Avatar 8:05pm MarkTime:

Howdy everyone! An especial howdy to @otis ... I recently thought back again to that wacky ham radio recording I sent you from Upper Michigan in 1996
Avatar 8:05pm shangri-lounge:

Very lovely.
Avatar 8:07pm Sonderangebot:

Good evening everyone, glad to listen to beautiful sounds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07pm spodiodi:

greetings, Otis! miss you
Avatar 8:07pm MarkTime:

And a big Thank You! to Cat for feeding my show into the stream today. My youngest got his 2nd shot today and I got home from that with only 3 minutes to spare
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07pm Mr Fab:

Aitch, getting a listener comment like that makes me think: mission accomplished.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:08pm Scott67:

G'day Mark & Timewasters!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:08pm Mr Fab:

Name that tune!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09pm Krys O.:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10pm Mr Fab:

Krys got it. Johnny, tell her what she's won!
Avatar 8:10pm Otis:

Hi Spodi and all.

Relaxing with the smooth sounds here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10pm Krys O.:

Please let it be Turtle Wax.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10pm Scott67:

I could sing it but not name it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:11pm Krys O.:

My mom's favorite radio station when I was a kid was a Beautiful Music station.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:11pm spodiodi:

i've never even seen a hairy turtle

aloha, Scott67!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:11pm Scott67:

G'day Otis! How's Hiatus mate?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm Scott67:

G'day spodi.πŸ˜ŽπŸ€™
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13pm Mr Fab:

Well of course Mark you got me curious about that "wacky ham radio recording"...
Avatar 8:14pm Feldpausch:

I like the radio pronunciation of W, which is more "double-deww"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16pm Mr Fab:

I wonder if in Wauwatosa they dance the Wah-Watusi.
Avatar 8:17pm Otis:

Good Scott, how's the beer down under? On a raspberry beer kick here again.
  8:18pm David in California:

This music sounds better to me than it did forty years ago. Should I be worried?
Avatar 8:18pm MarkTime:

Mr. Fab: I was at a motel in Iron Mountain, Michigan, recording some of the local stations. When I got home, I found most of the 45 minutes of the local college station was interrupted by a ham radio enthusiast in or near that motel
Avatar 8:18pm Otis:

If you start worrying, I will too David. Sounds wonderful here too.
  8:20pm David in California:

Otis, thanks for the reassurance. Good to see you.
Avatar 8:20pm MarkTime:

David in California: I would have a lot more tapes of WEZW and like stations, but I mostly avoided them in their heyday
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:21pm Mr Fab:

So ham can cut into FM? Had no idea.
Avatar 8:21pm Otis:

You too David, hello.

Mark, this sounds so much like the music for Chevrolet in the 70s I have heard on a couple of promotional albums. I feel like driving a station wagon through the Grand Canyon (but maybe not like Clark Griswold in Vacation, whew!)
Avatar 8:23pm Sonderangebot:

That wedding ad! I love it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm Krys O.:

LOL! Where the gowns are!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm Krys O.:

Blue Bayou
Avatar 8:24pm Feldpausch:

"Have a nice day" when it was earnest and not sarcastic?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm Mr Fab:

You beat me to it Krys!
Avatar 8:24pm Otis:

I just turned to write 'Blue Bayou' Krys, ha!
Avatar 8:24pm MarkTime:

It just blew by you
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm Krys O.:

I worked as a bank teller during college and Muzak was piped in. It really sped up as the day went on. It was insidious that way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25pm Mr Fab:

LOL Mark!

Milwaukee in 1980 was probably not that much different from Milwaukee in 1960.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27pm Krys O.:

Come to think of it, twenty years difference wasn't much, but 1980 was 41 years ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27pm Krys O.:

Is this the Anita Kerr Singers?
Avatar 8:28pm MarkTime:

Milwaukee in 1980 still had three major breweries, and still had some decent restaurants on Wisconsin Avenue. I took the bus or train up from Chicago as the drinking age was still 18 in Wisconsin
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm Krys O.:

Anita was a brilliant arranger, by the way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29pm Mr Fab:

LA kids used to go to Hawaii as a high school grad trip - 18 was the drinking age there, too.

Damn, I'm still on the clock, but this music really has me itchin to hit the fridge for this pack I bought recently: www.calicraft.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm Scott67:

Otis, those Fruity Beers are too sweet for me mate. I'm sticking with my Buck a Can from Vietnam. Cheers!!
Avatar 8:30pm Otis:

If you were on this side of the coast Fab, it would already be Miller Time.
  8:30pm David in California:

Once Upon a Time
Avatar 8:31pm Otis:

More for me Scott, ha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32pm Mr Fab:

These stations didn't back-announce? And it was pre-Shazam...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32pm Krys O.:

Connecticut teens would cross the border into my hometown when New York State's drinking age was 18.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33pm Krys O.:

Weren't they automated by that time? I remember reading an extensive history on Beautiful Music stations.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34pm Mr Fab:

"Moonlight Serenade" in waltz time..?
Avatar 8:34pm Otis:

I feel like playing Leland all over again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35pm Mr Fab:

Ah, what was that book that was the history of EZ music, Krys? I always meant to read it. i think Otis said he read it.
Avatar 8:35pm Otis:

Elevator Music by Joseph Lanza, can't recommend it enough.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35pm spodiodi:

we had older brothers (who were 18 at the time) drive to NJ from Philly whenever we ran out of beer at a party (when NJ was at 18)
Avatar 8:36pm MarkTime:

Back-announcing was rare on easy listening stations, at least by 1980. My favorite stations in the 1980s, KABL in Oakland and KNXR up in Rochester, Minnesota still had live jocks who either announced songs before or after they were played
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36pm spodiodi:

this is def Constance and Leland material
Avatar 8:36pm Sonderangebot:

That Elevator Music book is great. Whatever I didn't learn from Otis, I learned from that book!
Avatar 8:36pm Feldpausch:

OMG Leland what has he been up to!? I imagine having some major life experiences
Avatar 8:37pm Otis:

The way he just said, 'easy' ... was very easy.
Avatar 8:37pm Sonderangebot:

Constance and Leland were gagged by Roma Wine.
Avatar 8:37pm Otis:

Yes, they are living happily ever after in Blossom Park.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38pm spodiodi:

*pours roma down the tub*
Avatar 8:38pm Feldpausch:

Roma Wine will be our downfall
Avatar 8:38pm Otis:

Oh, just bathe in it Spodi, that's what I do.
Avatar 8:38pm MarkTime:

All Music, a good percentage of the time doesn't have the same impct as a slogan
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:39pm spodiodi:

already had my monthly hosing down, but what the hey... waste not, want not *splash*

thanks, Otis! good thinking
Avatar 8:40pm Otis:

I feel like listening to the 'singers' post-show. That's any bandleader with singers covering popular songs from Enoch to Ray. Absolutely love this sound.
Avatar 8:40pm MarkTime:

Does Roma wine still exist? I only know of it from "old time radio" commercials from the 1940s
Avatar 8:40pm Sonderangebot:

Chanson d'amour... ahhhh for the european feel.
  8:40pm David in California:

Constance and Leland's devotion to each other, and their guilelessness, made them very appealing.
Avatar 8:41pm Otis:

Wow, melody fair!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41pm Krys O.:

Bee Gees!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41pm Krys O.:

Really nice too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42pm Krys O.:

Thought it was Donovan at first.
Avatar 8:42pm Otis:

So nice. Watched the film for the first time a few years ago. Have loved the soundtrack for decades.
Avatar 8:44pm Sonderangebot:

MarkTime no I Roma Wine are now defunct, that's why I picked then as a fake sponsor for a show, I am looking for other types of products which were advertised on OTR but aren't around any more.
  8:44pm David in California:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:44pm Krys O.:

My Special Angel?
Avatar 8:44pm MarkTime:

Weird arrangement ... had me thinking "Blue Velvet" for a bit
Avatar 8:45pm Sonderangebot:

I can't tell if it's the 7 seconds delay from my player or if the arrangements are just SO LUSH.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:45pm Krys O.:

I distinctly heard the line that the lyrics would be, A smile from your lips brings the summer sunshine..."
Avatar 8:45pm Otis:

Lush and it's 14 seconds.
  8:45pm David in California:

Krys O., Yes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:46pm Krys O.:

The Bobby Helms version is ebullient.
Avatar 8:48pm Otis:

Anyone know of a station (online) today where beautiful music falls down from blue skies?
Avatar 8:48pm Sonderangebot:

Sorry I just realized you can't clicky star a song if there is no artist, so problem solved if you want to clicky star them.
Avatar 8:49pm Otis:

Hard to clicky star anything when you are floating on air.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:49pm Krys O.:

Ha! Tomorrow samba.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:50pm Krys O.:

Just found this online that mentions my mom's favorite: WEZN Bridgeport, CT.

Avatar 8:50pm MarkTime:

97five.com does a good approximation of the old KNXR
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:51pm Mr Fab:

Did commercial stations play Muzak? Or was it just in-store?
Avatar 8:51pm Otis:

Nice, thanks Mark. Bookmarked to check out tonight.
Avatar 8:52pm MarkTime:

Otis: And in the evening they rerun shows that played on KNXR
Avatar 8:52pm Otis:

Just reserved the room!
Avatar 8:53pm MarkTime:

No, Muzak just ran in restaurants, stores, offices, and finer elevators
Avatar 8:54pm Otis:

Did you all hear that, fly to Montreal today!
Avatar 8:54pm MarkTime:

And if you can spell Pfister you get a discount. Ah, Montreal!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55pm Mr Fab:

This announcer has the easiest job in radio - he speaks for like 15 seconds a few times an hour.
Avatar 8:56pm MarkTime:

Oopsie bad edit sorry!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:56pm spodiodi:

clown room???!?
(he probably said cloud room)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:56pm spodiodi:

thanks, MarkTime!
Avatar 8:56pm Otis:

It's pretty funny. Fly to Montreal once again!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:57pm Scott67:

Thanks Mark.βœŒπŸ˜ŽπŸŽΆπŸ“»
Avatar 8:58pm Otis:

WEZW has my listenership. Thanks MarkTime for the time capsule this eve... was fantastic!
Avatar 8:58pm Sonderangebot:

darn separatists
Avatar 8:58pm MarkTime:

You're welcome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58pm Krys O.:

"The station operators also wanted to be able to run the FM stations inexpensively. There wasn’t the revenue from FM to support a β€œlive” presentation with another staff of announcers. The result was the birth of automated equipment and the pre-recorded, syndicated format business."

Avatar 8:59pm Sonderangebot:

Loved the aircheck, Mark, and can't wait to hear many, many more, I wish I could listen to this all the time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59pm Krys O.:

Such an educational and entertaining show! Thank you!
  9:00pm David in California:

Thank you, Mark. This has given me another perspective on 1980.

And they're playing Downtown!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:00pm Mr Fab:

thanks for the time travel, MarkTime. Loved it!
And much thx to Cat tooo!
Avatar 9:01pm MarkTime:

Thank you all for the comments! Until next month ...
