  6:03am Rob from Maryland:

Good morning Jim the Poet and Amanda! Do I hear periodical cicadas in the background of this piece?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04am Amanda:

@Rob from Maryland Yes! Thank you for identifying them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06am fred:

I think former WFMU DJ Nat Roe worked for Irene Moon at some point
  6:07am P-90:

  6:07am Rob from Maryland:

@Amanda, I have a lot of experience with them hear in Maryland. And I miss them so. I would pick them up off our car tires and walk around with them and put them on trees. We had, um, a lot in our neighborhood.
  6:08am Rob from Maryland:

*here in Maryland ... coffee, more coffee ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10am Amanda:

Good Morning!
  6:37am Nuno Marcal:

The overwhelming number of cicadas emerging at once is protective. ... But the 13- and 17-year recurrence of cicada emergences may be an even savvier strategy. Both 13 and 17 are prime numbers, meaning they're divisible only by 1 and themselves.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38am Scott67:

🐸
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39am Scott67:

Sounds rude?
Avatar 😼 Swag For Life Member 6:39am LastWhiteRhino:

Hello Amanda and Jim.
  6:40am Morgan from Philly:

The existence of a turkey slap that would suggest turkeys are the percussion instruments themselves
  6:41am Morgan from Philly:

oops *would suggest that*
  6:41am yippie:

hey I thought cats were nocturnal
Avatar 😼 Swag For Life Member 6:43am Jim the Poet:

I guess it's more like a call box. I thought I saw one somewhere that was more like a tail fan thing
  6:43am Morgan from Philly:

anyway i think that every summer august drone is katydids. i looked that up very early in life because my brother used to tell me it was power lines in the neighborhood overheating
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:44am Amanda:

Hi Key, yippie, LWR, Nuno! I am going to stop greeting people after this, but please know that you and your animals are all very welcome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46am Amanda:

Cats are crepuscular, which means they're most active at dawn and dusk.
Avatar 😼 Swag For Life Member 6:48am LastWhiteRhino:

Do Spotted Lanternflies make a sound ??? (other than the crunching sound when people stomp them).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49am Amanda:

I'm sure other spotted lanternflies can hear them just fine!
  6:50am garlic lover:

Gm J&M ! Good sounds ty ty
  6:54am Rob from Maryland:

@LastWhiteRhino, I don't think so. I checked the wikipedia for the species and there's nothing in the entry for noise, sound, or communication.
Avatar 6:54am Beast of Boonton:

@Morgan from Philly: Katydids are heard at night.
"Katy did, katy-did, katy-did..."
  6:54am Cooh John:

Up with all the animals.
  6:55am Nuno Marcal:

People also ask
Do prime numbers help cicadas survive?
By cycling at a large prime number, cicadas minimize the chance that some bird or other predator can make a living off them. The emergence of a 17-year cicada species, for example, would sync with its five-year predator only every (5 multiplied by 17) 85 years.
  6:56am Jackie G:

Wasn't Otter one of the characters in Animal House?
Avatar 😼 Swag For Life Member 6:58am LastWhiteRhino:

Thanks for the info Rob from Maryland. Maybe they are just very shy.
Avatar 7:01am HyperDose:

Doing alright, Scott. Each day is a little better. Enjoying the company and accompanying sounds.
  7:01am Rob from Maryland:

LastWhiteRhino, they probably are shy. As an introvert, I understand.
  7:01am Rob from Maryland:

@Jackie G, yes!
  7:02am Jackie G:

....and Flounder. Can't forget Flounder.
  7:03am Jackie G:

Jeremiah was a bull frog!
  7:04am Rob from Maryland:

was a good friend of mine
  7:05am Morgan from Philly:

Avatar 7:06am Beast of Boonton:

Katydids are nocturnal - yes
  7:07am yippie:

did you get a covid approved lion mask
  7:07am Morgan from Philly:

ooh though! i dislike phonetic descriptions of animal sounds they are so inadequate

Avatar 😼 Swag For Life Member 7:09am Jim the Poet:

The Frog
BY HILAIRE BELLOC
Be kind and tender to the Frog,
And do not call him names,
As ‘Slimy skin,’ or ‘Polly-wog,’
Or likewise ‘Ugly James,’
Or ‘Gape-a-grin,’ or ‘Toad-gone-wrong,’
Or ‘Billy Bandy-knees’:
The Frog is justly sensitive
To epithets like these.
No animal will more repay
A treatment kind and fair;
At least so lonely people say
Who keep a frog (and, by the way,
They are extremely rare).

Avatar 😼 Swag For Life Member 7:10am Jim the Poet:

I'm Nobody! Who are you? (260)
Emily Dickinson - 1830-1886

I'm Nobody! Who are you?
Are you – Nobody – too?
Then there's a pair of us!
Don't tell! they'd advertise – you know!

How dreary – to be – Somebody!
How public – like a Frog –
To tell one's name – the livelong June –
To an admiring Bog!
  7:11am Jackie G:

My niece has a frog. She named him Apollo. He eats crickets. Only live crickets.
Avatar 😼 Swag For Life Member 7:12am Jim the Poet:

I want to have a pet cricket
  7:13am Morgan from Philly:

huh. im seeing there are also annual cicadas. i am woefully underinformed
  7:14am Morgan from Philly:

frogs are barometers of ecological disruption too, poor little guys
  7:14am Morgan from Philly:

Avatar 😼 Swag For Life Member 7:15am dale:
