It’s 1990. The Berlin Wall has just come down. The Soviet Union is on the verge of collapse. A heavy metal band from West Germany, the Scorpions, releases a power ballad, “Wind of Change.” The song becomes the soundtrack to the peaceful revolution sweeping Europe — and one of the biggest rock singles ever. No more patience remaining for this level of willful ignorance. You seem to think that there's some countercultural caché to resisting this. It's not countercultural except in that culture will die out if we are all locked away forever because the selfish and deluded among us think their wrong-headed ideas are more important than the health of all those around them. Slept til noon and then had a full day of cleaning out a basement filled with big boxes. Not the best way to nurse a hangover but surprisingly I think the work got me out of the hangover quicker than if I had just been a couch potato all day. A fun night was had so it was worth it!

It’s 1990. The Berlin Wall has just come down. The Soviet Union is on the verge of collapse. A heavy metal band from West Germany, the Scorpions, releases a power ballad, “Wind of Change.” The song becomes the soundtrack to the peaceful revolution sweeping Europe — and one of the biggest rock singles ever. According to some fans, it’s the song that ended the Cold War. Decades later, New Yorker writer Patrick Radden Keefe hears a rumor from a source: the Scorpions didn’t actually write “Wind of Change.” The CIA did.
