Listener comments!

Avatar 7/19 11:44am Tony Coulter:

Today's playlist art is by Mina Conant. It's a detail of a painting called "Birthday Party," from 1974.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00pm listener james from westwood:

Good day, Tony and all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm Rich in Washington:

Helloooooooo
Avatar 12:01pm Tony Coulter:

Top o'-the morning-afternoon-evening, James!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm listener james from westwood:

Coincidence w that art that the host following you used to open her show with a track by The Birthday Party?
Avatar 12:03pm Tony Coulter:

Hiya, Rich! So, Ernest Borgnine is now one of Satan's minions?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm Rich in Washington:

We're all Borgnines!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm WR:

Hello Tony and drummer streamers.

listener james from westwood: you are deeply steeped in the ways of WFMU.
Avatar 12:07pm Nick S.:

Hey, Tony! We're all Ernest Borgnine!
Avatar 12:07pm Tony Coulter:

Hey there, WR!
Avatar 12:07pm Tony Coulter:

... and Nick too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm fred:

Ernest Borgnine was always a role model to me, so that's mildy alarming
Avatar 12:08pm Tony Coulter:

Hey, Fred!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm spodiodi:

hi Tony and all!
Avatar 12:11pm Tony Coulter:

Hey there, spodi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm fred:

Haven't listened to this show in a long time. Also haven't got time off in a long time. Not a coincidence
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm Yvang:

Hey Tony and Coulteners ! And Borgnines !
Avatar 12:13pm Tony Coulter:

It's Ernest Yvang! Hiya!
Avatar 12:15pm solo mon:

We can rebuild him BORG9
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Rich in Washington:

Hello solo!
Avatar 12:16pm Tony Coulter:

Ha! (Heya, solo mon!)
Avatar 12:18pm solo mon:

Hi Tony, sounding amazing! Hi Rich!
Avatar 12:24pm Tony Coulter:

The end section of that John White piece almost seemed to be summoning the spirits of the Captain & Tenille.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm Yvang:

Interestingly you wrote Electronic Music in the Album column while the label seems to have prefered Electric Music (showing up on the bandcamp page) which is not an accurate description for this John White track at least. Great track, by the way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm Rich in Washington:

Joseph Nechvatal sort of rules the cassette era underworld. I've got a few of his releases and he's on a ton of cassette compilations.
Avatar 12:31pm Tony Coulter:

@ Yvang: Oops! I guess the title is "Electric Music." Will correct. Thanks!
Avatar 12:31pm solo mon:

Oh my gosh this is so good
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm ARB:

I am very relaxing
Avatar 12:36pm Tony Coulter:

Greets, ARB!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm Cmurtha:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Little Danny:

Hello Solo!
Avatar 12:57pm Tony Coulter:

Hey, Cmurtha! Didn't see you come in.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm ARB:

Hi Cmurtha, hi Solo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm Little Danny:

Wow, haven't thought about Arcane Device in forever. The "Trout" CD was huge for me.
Avatar 1:08pm Tony Coulter:

Just remembering how years ago a nosy neighbor got suspicious when I got a package from David Myers with "Arcane Device" written on it in large letters. I think he thought it might be a bomb ... or maybe a sex toy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm Little Danny:

I could totally hear the metallic drones of the mid-'90s Arcane Device I knew in that brand-new DLM track. Consistency!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm spodiodi:

that George Edwards Group sounded very Residents-y
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm Doug from Maine:

Two words that always look good in the same sentence: "Doug" and cash."
Avatar 1:17pm Tony Coulter:

Ha! Hey, Doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm Rich in Washington:

Doug!
Avatar 1:23pm Tony Coulter:

Doug: Can you lend me some cash?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm Little Danny:

Great segue!
Avatar 1:26pm Tony Coulter:

Thanks! I live for improbable segues like that.
Avatar 1:27pm Tony Coulter:

Improbable on paper, I mean.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm Little Danny:

As both a listener and a music selector I feel exactly the same way.
  1:28pm Dane:

loving Peppermint Rainbow
Avatar 1:28pm Nick S.:

Got this Peppermint Rainbow record!
Avatar 1:29pm Tony Coulter:

Hiya, Dane!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm Doug from Maine:

I gave all my cash to Johnny.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm WR:

No more phone meetings scheduled for the rest of the day. Hooray, turning up the volume.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm Rick from SC:

Hey Tony. Love the early XTC
Avatar 1:41pm Tony Coulter:

Hey, Rick!
  1:41pm Dane:

I'm Bugged and I'll Set Myself on Fire my two favs from the first XTC
Avatar 1:42pm Tony Coulter:

They almost have a no wave flavor.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm ARB:

Was just remarking to myself about the no wave sound
Avatar 1:43pm Tony Coulter:

And ... thanks to Dane for supplying me with this here Donkey Bugs album. (More bugs.)
  1:45pm Dane:

While I like the records right after him a little more. Barry Andrews added a lot of weirdness to XTC
  1:45pm Dane:

Donkey Bugs entire record is excellent!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm ARB:

I gotta get that Donkey Bugs too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Rich in Washington:

Ancient Chinese secrets, huh?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm ARB:

Before there was Hootie and the Blowfish (who also have an album called Scattered and Smothered)
  1:50pm Dane:

I believe their singer is Chinese
Avatar 1:50pm Tony Coulter:

Here's another opportunity to learn those ancient Chinese secrets....
Avatar 1:50pm Nick S.:

I know the Beatless dudes! Funny interesting folk!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm Rich in Washington:

H&TB came from S. Carolina and Whifflefist label was based in N. Carolina. Hmmmm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Rich in Washington:

I have a couple of Whifflefist releases and they're uniformly nuts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm ARB:

Oh Yoko
Avatar 1:53pm solo mon:

LOVE
Avatar 1:54pm Nick S.:

Rich in Washington: I've been friends with all of them for decades now. Geeks! Total nerds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm listener james from westwood:

Dig this track but the opening scared the heck out of me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm ARB:

Feels so good to be thrilled by radio
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm Rich in Washington:

I've recently become fascinated with regional musical collectives such as LAFMS, etc.
  1:59pm Dane:

Did you get the Vinyl-On-Demand LAFMS Box Tony?
Avatar 2:00pm Nick S.:

Rich Recchion just put out a huge box set of their stuff. I would love to get it but I gots to chill for a bit.
Avatar 2:00pm Tony Coulter:

Nope, not yet.
Avatar 2:00pm Tony Coulter:

^ Dane
  2:01pm Mark Williams:

another super interesting show, Tony. Hi to you and everyone else.
Avatar 2:01pm Tony Coulter:

Hey, Mark! Thanks!
Avatar 2:20pm Tony Coulter:

Apologies for the crappy shape this Gary & Allen Porn record is in....
Avatar 2:27pm Nick S.:

Would love to get this Golden Dawn. Expensive!
Avatar 2:32pm Tony Coulter:

It has been reissued....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm Rich in Washington:

radio means never having to say you're sorry.
Avatar 2:32pm Tony Coulter:

Somehow find myself trapped back in 1968....
Avatar 2:37pm Tony Coulter:

To me, this Holy Moses track sounds like The Band crossed with The Doors.
Avatar 2:37pm Nick S.:

Ah! Been a while since I looked. Occasionally I'll see an OG for sale for $425 or so.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm Rich in Washington:

It does!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm Little Danny:

Bit of a Can bassline in there.
Avatar 2:43pm Tony Coulter:

See what you mean! Though it's probably a coincidence....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm David (in London):

Mm, rather late in today, but 15 minutes is better than no minutes. Hi Tony and everyone.
Avatar 2:48pm Tony Coulter:

Hey, David! Hope the floods and attendant problems have receded....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm Little Danny:

Thanks Tony, fantastic show today!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm fred:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm WR:

Avatar 2:55pm Tony Coulter:

Ha! I am a little weird....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm Rich in Washington:

Thanks, Tony! Wonderfully weird show today!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm listener james from westwood:

Fun closer and fine show; thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm Yvang:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm WR:

That's fine with me Tony, the W in my name is for Weird.
