@Listener Greggggory! @fred! @DJpeterDE! Just a bit more coffee and I'll be live...ish.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03am Uncle Michael:

good morning
  9:03am Listener Robert:

I'll try to settle in for the full 7 (?!) hours and do some physical work here, even though I'm still sore from the past 2 days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:04am chresti:

Good morning Jeff and d:OUTers!
Avatar 9:06am TDK60:

Good morning Jeff. Yes, play an LP! I like seeing platters spin around.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06am fred:

My task now is to merge/sort the three batches of tickets I got for shows for the coming season. 58 show (mostly dance), hopefully I didn't book two on the same day (I did do that a couple times)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07am listener james from westwood:

Good Sunday, Jeff and all!
Avatar 9:07am Listener Gregory:

Two shows on Pukwana... that is some deep Dudu.
An LP! You can do it, Jeff!

  9:13am Listener Robert:

Most of what I have to do is wrap and box the ~200 crystals mostly lining the floor around the walls of my late friend Bob's bedroom. His ex, Jeannie, whom he lived with for 20 years before moving in with me, said she gave him most of the crystals and wanted them preserved and if possible given to a museum, but at any rate not to go to our mutual friend Ralph because he'll just put them around his property where they won't be seen much. He's going thru his own struggle with the fairly sudden death of his wife. And then we had another friend die suddenly of a bleeding ulcer.

But I want to get this job with the crystals done before showing the room to prospective new sub- or co-tenants.
Avatar 9:13am Stork:

OOO! Did not know this track existed! Sweet!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14am Jeff Golick:

Wow, @Listener Robert. That sounds like a lot. Also like you are a good friend!
Avatar 9:14am TDK60:

In NYC area? Sun Ra Arkestra plays Summerstage fest in Central Park, June 24th. A free show but tickets required; not sure how to get, yet.) It will also be livestreamed.
  9:15am Listener Robert:

Still, I must admit part of my soreness is from picking wild berries yesterday morning by the road east of me.
  9:16am Listener Robert:

For those interested and with the opportunity in this climate zone, the mulberries and black caps are nearly gone, but now the raspberries are ripe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am fred:

Though it actually turned out great when I got it wrong. I gave the extra tickets to friends and that opened their eyes to contemporary dance
Avatar 9:17am Listener Gregory:

If you put a berry into a crystal, then you really have something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am Jeff Golick:

Very cool, @TDK60 -- thanks for sharing, and presumably that's July 24th. Also found this: "Tickets are no longer required for free performances at SummerStage. All free performances will be open to the public, first come, first served, with limited capacity, and will continue to follow CDC recommendations. This performance will be livestreamed on SummerStageAnywhere.org."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18am Jeff Golick:

@fred: that is a singular pleasure, opening others' eyes (with consent)

morning food errand done. Now you have my full attention!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26am Jeff Golick:

@alanr! That's a lot of pressure. Maybe do something else while listening?
Avatar 9:28am Listener Gregory:

It is impressive how Don Cherry fits perfectly into a band of African musicians.
Avatar 9:29am TDK60:

Summerstage: I also saw something about masks and vaccination proof being needed. Not sure if still needed, but I still wear masks around groups. And combos.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29am Jeff Golick:

Was just thinking that, @LG. Is there a musical context he wouldn't fit into?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29am Uncle Michael:

It's mending, Stork. Thanks, Jeff.

Hey, Stork, preamp/stereo functioning again(it's 25-30 years old mostly, probably due to melt down). PC had melted down, also old. Gave it in for repair, for it back, had to bring it back again. Probably should just have ditched it.

Got to hear Joel Forrester Friday, free outdoor solo concert in Bryant Park, NYC. Was fun! (He's playing with a trio in Rockaway tonight).
Avatar 10:17am Listener Gregory:

So, I heard my first indoors music since you-know-when last night: Brooklyn Rider string quartet + Kinan Azmeh, clarinetist. I know many here will disagree with me, but there is something special about hearing live music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18am Jeff Golick:

It's true, that's a bit of an outlier position, @LG.
Avatar 10:19am Listener Gregory:

I had to speak up for my minority group.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19am doctorjazz:

Actually not bad sounding at all (through my phone/headphones), but it is mono to my ears.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19am fred:

Shouldn't it be spelled out:lier?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20am Jeff Golick:

I never know where to put that colon, @fred.

As long as you don't spell it Out Liar...
  10:20am Gina Bacon:

Happy Sunday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am Jeff Golick:

Oh yeah, @Gina Bacon! Your show got us home from NJ yesterday...
  10:22am Gina Bacon:

Yay! Thank you…I’m so glad!

Did Matinee come on? I was driving the 1st half hour or so, the stream was on...more to catch up with.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am chresti:

The thing I like about live music is being able to see it taking place. I like to watch the drummer/percussionist
  10:23am Gina Bacon:

And glad I got my power back!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am Jeff Golick:

Oh no! Had no idea, @Gina -- we tuned in late, I guess, after the power difficulties.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am WR:

Hello Jeff and outies.

Jeff is that a pre Hippie looking Chris McGregor in the The Blue Notes photo?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am Jeff Golick:

Can someone explain to me why New Jersey doesn't want drivers pumping their own gas?
Avatar 10:25am Listener Gregory:

The nuances of a string quartet are never fully captured in a recording, I think, even with a stereo like @doctorj's.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am Jeff Golick:

Hey, @WR! I believe so, probably from earlier in the 1960s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am fred:

@Jeff: Not knowing where to put one's colon is quite common with guys reaching a certain age
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am Jeff Golick:

+1 number 1, @fred.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am spodiodi:

i think because of health considerations (for the consumer, NOT the gas station attendant)... which, i've always thought was completely screwed up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am spodiodi:

(, Jeff)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27am Jeff Golick:

Huh, yeah that's a messed up, @spodiodi.
Avatar 10:28am Listener Gregory:

State legislators give many reasons, none of which have persuaded the 48 states that allow it. (Oregon didn't, as of a few years ago.) The elderly and disabled might have a problem pumping their own gas, but most states require someone to come out and help them if necessary.
Avatar 10:29am TDK60:

I love live music. Except audience members' behavior sometimes is a challenge. Like, if in a theater show, a person in my row needs to use the restroom and passes right in front of me during a rousing crescendo. The nerve!
Avatar 10:30am Listener Gregory:

@TDK60, I shouldn't have had the dessert. I apologize.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32am WR:

I was at a concert at a theater a few years back and some older adult men were acting like they hadn't been to a concert since they were 17. One white haired fellow lit a joint and got miffed that the ushers pulled him out of the show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am doctorjazz:

..@LG-I've heard some multi kilobuck stereo systems, and they still don't come close to live music (though they can sound pretty good).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am fred:

@TDK60: they might not have been at a concert since then, it happens more than you think
Avatar 10:37am TDK60:

At least at outdoor concerts, with no assigned seating, one can move away from certain people. Or, ask for a puff of that joint!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37am Mx. Baba Bee (e/they):

@10:01 TDK60: (sorry for the delay, I was making tea and feeding cats!) I opened with "Sunny Afternoon" because it still was such when karaoke started. Seemed to get a good response from the crowd (they were still, er, "warming up")

Avatar 10:38am Listener Gregory:

There was a whooper at my concert. At first he whooped at the end of each piece. Then he began to whoop at the climaxes of the pieces. It was strangely consonant with the music, I thought (lively pieces with a middle-eastern clarinet swooping around). I don't think it would work with Bartok.

@Doug! That is fascinating. Was the dispute in NYC?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06am Doug from Maine:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09am fred:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am Doug from Maine:

Jessie says every year she poses the question to her students, why didn't Kikuchi just move from a loft where the landlord allowed conditions to be so horrible. (Bricks were falling from above floors on people's heads; near misses with people nearly falling down open elevator shafts; a waterbed company in the above space leaking water down and ruining instruments, etc.) None of the young law students have any idea just how precious a cheap New York City loft was in the '60s and '70s.

That's about right. Basically, there is nothing cheap and there are no lofts. (They've all been subdivided into many multiple sardine-can apartments.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am Jeff Golick:

Good ears, @RRN63 -- I think Booth and the drummer Eric Gravatt were at this time McCoy's rhythm section.
Avatar 11:22am Listener Gregory:

I know him primarily from his time with McCoy Tyner, when he was "Joony."
Avatar 11:24am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...not to intersect such a lofty discussion...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am Doug from Maine:

I've always been a "Juni" guy. This Juini stuff is new to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26am Jeff Golick:

Scott Williams just strolled in to claim a CD that was in Studio C, and told me that all three studios here -- A, B, C -- are broadcasting live. I found that kind of thrilling.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27am Jeff Golick:

(Also confusing, as the only person I've seen here all summer is Jeff Sarge.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am Jeff Golick:

(Also possibly embarrassing -- in light of dancing comments, above.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am fred:

I can see how only meeting Jeff Sarge over a long time can increase confusion
Avatar 11:30am hyde:

now i want to listen to all three live broadcasts at once
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am spodiodi:

this is rad, Jeff
Avatar 11:31am TDK60:

Who's the 3rd DJ? Soul Bunny on Rock and Soul stream?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am Doug from Maine:

I wonder who is live in Studio B?! The Rock & Soul stream has its robot working. Maybe a live performance is being recorded in B?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32am Jeff Golick:

It's Mike Sin, I think his show comes on at 11?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32am Jeff Golick:

Agreed, @spodiodi. If anyone ever locates Khalid of Space Part ONE, please send up the D:O signal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am Doug from Maine:

Now if we can just get Studio D in gear, it will be some kind of record!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am Jeff Golick:

Oh, Mike's show comes on at noon.

--there's a Studio D??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am fred:

Studio P held out throughout though
Avatar 11:35am TDK60:

Oh, Soul Bunny is a robot, not human?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am spodiodi:

pulling us back from a frenzied state
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am fred:

@Jeff:I think studio D is your son's bedroom
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am Jeff Golick:

Yeah, I believe so, @TDK60, though a robot that can react to comments in real time?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am Jeff Golick:

@fred: Studio 420 is more like it these days.
Avatar 11:39am TDK60:

I wondered as I thought I saw Bunny's typed replies once (listened only a few times).
Avatar 11:41am Listener Gregory:

I'm glad you're playing this set, Jeff, because I never really liked Booth's bass sound in those MyCoy trios, and this is really much better.
  11:42am WM:

Thanks for the Larry Young. I'm more familiar with his work with John McLaughlin and Tony Williams. Had not heard Kahlid of Space before.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am Jeff Golick:

Oh, yeah, it's a trip, @WM. Glad you caught it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am spodiodi:

Studio 420 😄
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am spodiodi:

TDK60, Bunny's poetry can be fun
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am doctorjazz:

thanks, Jeff!
Stork's Dudu will be car soundtrack.
Great week all!
  11:49am WM:

I missed most of LY work after the Tony Williams Lifetime. I love JM Devotion, but it's odd that McLaughlin himself disowns the record.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49am Jeff Golick:

Thanks, @doc -- you, too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49am doctorjazz:

Resonance released a nice live Larry Young set not too long ago, Larry Young in Paris.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am Jeff Golick:

MORE DUDU PUKWANA here at the top of the hour: wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am fred:

@Jeff: So you're hanging out with Jeff Sarge, then say your son's room smells like weed? Projecting much?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am doctorjazz:

Now, the sound on Exile is not all that great...(exciting track, though).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am listener james from westwood:

Thanks, Jeff!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am spodiodi:

thanks for another cool, educational and invigorating Sunday morning, Jeff! love your show.
to Dudu. take care, everyone ✌️
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am Jeff Golick:

@fred, anything is possible!
Avatar 11:55am hyde:

thanks!
Avatar 11:55am Listener Gregory:

Hmmm, is Flute Music playing at a slower speed? If so, I guess that means the end will come more slowly.
Excellent show, Jeff! Thanks.
Avatar 11:56am Stork:

Where have I heard this tune before?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am Jeff Golick:

Thank youse! @spodiodi, @hyde, @listener james, @Listener Gregory, and everybody...!
Avatar 11:56am TDK60:

Thanks Jeff for the look at Dudu P.
Avatar 11:57am Stork:

Pure incredibleness today, Jeff!
Avatar 11:57am Listener Gregory-Gregory:

Adding an extra Gregory in honor of Louis Moholo-Moholo.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am chresti:

Thanks Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am doctorjazz:

More of that hoodoo that Dudu do coming/
Avatar 11:58am Stork:

@Gregory Gregory: like!
Avatar 11:59am Listener Gregory-Gregory:

Seriously, though, this doesn't sound like the same speed as the usual ending. I'm going to check and see if my ears have just speeded up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm Jeff Golick:

Take care, @TDK60, @Stork, @Rev Rab, @chresti...!
Avatar 12:03pm Listener Gregory-Gregory:

OK, it seems that the record speed was about right. Perhaps the absence of talk-over just let me hear all the spaces in it. Or else I am losing my mind. 50-50
