Discotech Underground is actually two...two...two shows in one!

The first half is a "Happy Hour" of sorts, (because it's five o'clock somewhere, right?) spinning the kinds of sounds you might have heard at a real, authentic 1960's DISCOTECH as cool cats and swingin' chicks danced the night away in their mod threads and mini skirts to hard driving sounds under the flashing lights! The only thing missing are the cage dancers...but we're working on it!

The second half is for when you head home after a wild night and ease in with the heady, trippy, mind expanding sounds of a groovy free-form UNDERGROUND rock radio station that digs deep into their library and blows your mind all over again!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49pm HyperDose:

@marpay How serendipitous! There was a 2br I went to look at, but no sunlight and surrounded by shared walls. Took the 1br corner penthouse with the NY view the moment I saw it. It's a good year for new beginnings!
Avatar 10:49pm WLSClark:

Recording is so crisp on this. How many times has this LP been reissued on CD now?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50pm Candy-O'67:

I'm a regular of The Long Way Home. If you guys don't listen (I see a few of the regulars on here tonight), you should! It's a great soul show, too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50pm Julie P.:

Yo, Candy!
Avatar 10:51pm StringOFperils:

Back, with peanut butter. Oh man, another acid president...
Avatar 10:52pm WLSClark:

The stereo on this LP is so wide!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm prof.fuzz:

Speaking of cover shoot outfits, I recently read that the Go Go's publicist bought a bunch of towels at Macys, and strictly warned the band not to get them dirty during the photo shoot because they were going to be returned to Macys the next day. Heard a similar story about Chuck Prophet and his band buying and returning suits for a spot on Letterman's show. Apparently if you look closely on the video you can catch a glimpse of the tags.
Wonder if The Seeds boots were daily drivers or "rented" for the photo shoot...
Avatar 10:53pm Discotech Underground:

Clark-It is...I'm listening in headphones and it's like way wide!
Avatar 10:53pm StringOFperils:

Hi Candy-O, Mom, Kip of course, and all fuzz freakout afficianados
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm Scott67:

Right on Candy-O. I was gunna say that myself at some point. Kris deserves a bigger audience for his Show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm Jay S.:

I heard that Go-Gos story...so the label didn't even spring for towels.
Avatar 10:54pm WLSClark:

That's a tough S of K one on vinyl. Good job!

Had Jimi sign Gloria sheet music and #1 gold pressing at 2 diff gigs.
Avatar 11:01pm bigplanetnoise:

Hey Candy-O!
Avatar 11:02pm WLSClark:

Cr, I think Gloria has about 6 different record variations by the Shadows. At least I have that many.
Avatar 11:02pm Discotech Underground:

Dr. Mind-That Peoria show was the same weekend Craig Moore had his heart attack!
  11:02pm Jon:

Hey Kip. Great set. I’m in Royal Oak, where are you at?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03pm marpay:

HI Jon!!
Avatar 11:03pm Discotech Underground:

Jon-Still at home in TR!
Avatar 11:04pm Discotech Underground:

Jon-Thanks for checking out the show!
Avatar 11:04pm MOM WHIG:

When was that Craig Moore from Gonn? Is he ok
  11:04pm Jon:

WLSClark - which version of Gloria is your favorite? I really love what Patti Smith did with it, personally. And by “did with it,” I mean transcend reality haha
Avatar 11:04pm Discotech Underground:

MOM-Yes, and yes. That was a bad weekend but he is alive and well and just as ornery as ever!
Avatar 11:05pm bigplanetnoise:

I was gonna say he's 100% back to being cranky and grouchy, as always.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05pm Candy-O'67:

Kip, is all of this UFO album this good?
Avatar 11:05pm WLSClark:

Craig came to the Omaha conventions often, so saw him a few times there and chatted. Hope he gets better like Jimy Sohns has..
Avatar 11:05pm Discotech Underground:

BPN-Indeed...in fact, if he wasn't being Cranky Craig, we would think something was wrong.
  11:06pm RickJones:

yes, Craifg is ok. I stopped in his store and bought records from him in Oct. 2019 and had him sign his Slink Rand Band lp that had just come out.
Avatar 11:06pm WLSClark:

If he can sell you a reissue of Gonn, he'll be happy!
Avatar 11:06pm StringOFperils:

Crankiness = Commitment
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06pm Candy-O'67:

Awesome, marpay! You'll love it and Kris is awesome, all his banter between songs!!
Avatar 11:06pm MOM WHIG:

Thanks Kip and BPN
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm Candy-O'67:

Or sets, I should say...
Avatar 11:07pm WLSClark:

Jon, most certainly I like the S of K best, BUT it is one of their LESSER 45s, IMO.
Avatar 11:07pm Discotech Underground:

Candy-O! Yes, it's excellent! It's their second album and was never issued in the US until much, much later. It runs an entire hour, thirty minutes a side with very long, extended jams and spacey type improvisations! I was lucky to find an original at an antique mall for five bucks! Still had the inner sleeve in it, too!
  11:08pm RickJones:

I bought the new GONN 45 that came out earlier this year from an acetate and won a yellow vinyl copy from the record label also..one of 67 yellow vinyl records made!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08pm Candy-O'67:

Wow, Kip! You are lucky! I'm gonna be in search of this now!
  11:08pm Jon:

Yeah, love the Shadows.
Avatar 11:08pm MOM WHIG:

Glad you made it here Jon
Avatar 11:08pm WLSClark:

Rick, good job!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09pm HyperDose:

It's much nicer looking at NY from the NJ side than vice versa. Though this area is coming up!
Avatar 11:09pm MOM WHIG:

Rick that's super awesome
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09pm Julie P.:

Ahhhhh, Deep Purple!
Avatar 11:09pm Discotech Underground:

Candy-O-Originals are VERY hard to find, especially with the inner sleeve but reissues are out there that are affordable.
Avatar 11:09pm WLSClark:

Is this a live LP? I see Hard Road on it--my fave by them on tetra.
  11:09pm sufferwords:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09pm marpay:

So glad you got a great place, Hyper!!
Avatar 11:09pm Discotech Underground:

Jon-I misunderstood your question...I am in Three Rivers which is just south of Kalamazoo.
  11:10pm Jon:

@MOM WHIG: the Drummer stream is where it’s at 🥁
Avatar 11:10pm Discotech Underground:

Clark-This is a compilation Warners did of the Mark 1 stuff that was originally released on Tetragrammaton after the company went belly up.
Avatar 11:10pm MOM WHIG:

Jon apparently so
Avatar 11:10pm WLSClark:

DU, as they say at W MIch, "row the boat"!!!
  11:11pm Jon:

Oh nice, never been to Three Rivers.
Avatar 11:11pm Discotech Underground:

Another Michigan expression..."want a pop?"
Avatar 11:11pm WLSClark:

Hard Road looks a few seconds longer than the 45, so thought it is different version?
Avatar 11:12pm Discotech Underground:

Clark-Probably the LP cut. WB put this together after Tetragrammaton folded.
  11:12pm Jon:

I’ve visited Western a few times, Kalamazoo is a nice town.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm marpay:

Oh here we say, y'wanna col-drink? lol
Avatar 11:12pm Discotech Underground:

Jon-I identify as being from Kalamazoo because no one has heard of Three Rivers but everyone knows Kalamazoo! LOL
Avatar 11:12pm WLSClark:

Sure seems like an odd way to get my request across, right? ;)
Avatar 11:13pm Discotech Underground:

marpay-They say "cold drink" in New Orleans, also.
  11:13pm Jon:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm marpay:

they do! never been to NO but did spend a night in Biloxi on the way back to Sebring from Lancaster, CA LOL!!
Avatar 11:14pm WLSClark:

Home of Gibson Guitars! Did you ever visit there? Bob Stroud of Chicago radio fame lived there--still has cabin there I think?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15pm marpay:

in Lancaster, WLS? or Biloxi
Avatar 11:15pm Discotech Underground:

Jon-I am going to be in the Detroit area in a couple of weeks. My girlfriend and I are going to the Van Gogh Experience exhibit at Cobo/TCF.
Avatar 11:15pm WLSClark:

Sorry Marpay, kalamazoo
Avatar 11:16pm Discotech Underground:

marpay-I used to go over to Biloxi once in a while when I lived in New Orleans just to get away for a while. Nice area. They had a nice concert venue there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm marpay:

  11:16pm Jon:

Oh, that sounds pretty epic!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm Jay S.:

Somebody put out a map of the U.S. color-coded by where they say "pop", "soda", "Coke" etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm marpay:

Love this Jackie Lomax
Avatar 11:16pm Discotech Underground:

Jon-I have some friends who went to it in Chicago and it's mind blowing!
Avatar 11:16pm MOM WHIG:

Kip - are you going to see any Frank Lloyd Wright houses there!!
Avatar 11:17pm Discotech Underground:

Jay S-Michigan is definitely "pop". Upper midwest, like Minnesota and Wisconsin say "soda".
Avatar 11:17pm WLSClark:

DU, have you ever seen those 3 brothers that sound like Zeppelin? They are pretty right on to their sound. Detroit kids I believe?
Avatar 11:17pm Discotech Underground:

MOM-Not this trip. I know there are a few over there, though. There are a couple in Chicago that I have gone to see, however.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm Jay S.:

I'm from South Jersey, we absolutely said "soda"
Avatar 11:17pm Discotech Underground:

Clark- You mean Greta Van Fleet? No, I have not seen them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm Candy-O'67:

Yeah, Kip, I've learned that scoping out records. I'll probably get the re-issue😁
Avatar 11:18pm WLSClark:

Yeah, that's them. I had to admit they used the Zeppelin sound to the max.
  11:20pm RickJones:

I saw Greta van Fleet a few years ago at Lollapalooza and loved them! A great new rock band!
  11:21pm Jon:

That’s a great goal, Kip.
Avatar 11:21pm WLSClark:

Rick, I don't listen to new music, but my buddy's kid said you gotta hear them. I had to admit they had the style down pat
Avatar 11:23pm Discotech Underground:

Candy-O-All three of the original line up UFO albums are great. The first one is fairly easy to find in the US because it was released on Rare Earth. The second was not, however. There is also a live album with the first lineup also. They totally changed their style when they brought Michael Shenkner on board and became more commercial hard rock. Those early works are GEMS!
  11:24pm RickJones:

WLSClark, my son is 37 and I am 68 and we have gone to 14 Lollapalooza, 13 Pitchforks, and 7 Riot Fest festivals at 3 to 4 days each from noon to 10 pm...have seen a lot of new artists...I like many of them and some I cannot stand..also attended about 7 of the punk rock Vans Warped tours with him, the last one in 2011,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25pm prof.fuzz:

Rick has earned the Dad of the Year coffee mug
Avatar 11:25pm Discotech Underground:

RickJones-I have been to exactly two Lollapalooza shows...2012 to see Black Sabbath, 2015 to see Paul McCartney.
  11:26pm Jon:

I’ve heard nothing but shit-talking about GVF and it is so refreshing to hear some compliments. They are incredibly talented and I feel like popular culture just said: “We would like some more Led Zeppelin songs, please!” And the universe said: “But there is no more Led Zeppelin” and the culture said: “Well, just find some ridiculously talented kids and just MAKE MORE LED ZEPPELIN PLEASE! We just wanna take shots and dance and get laid!” And the universe said: “Here’s Greta Van Fleet”
Avatar 11:26pm WLSClark:

Last I saw Lalla was on for this year? Has it happened already?
  11:27pm Jon:

And there’s nothing “wrong” with that! Haha I guess I just hang out with too many oldskool hipsters
  11:27pm RickJones:

I don't drink coffee...there are other dads there with their sons, too. One is an avid record collector, Eric Berman, who lives in Delaware now.
Avatar 11:27pm WLSClark:

Jon, that is what I heard too, when I listened first time. Good stuff.
  11:29pm RickJones:

LOLLA is next week July 29th to Aug 1st..I am not going..stopped in 2018, but my son went in 2019 by himself and enjoyed it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm prof.fuzz:

I make my son play drums in a garage rock band with his mom and dad in exchange for room, board, and college tuition. I have no DOTY coffee mug.
Avatar 11:30pm bigplanetnoise:

Did someone say there was coffee?
Avatar 11:30pm Discotech Underground:

I am going to be taking my daughter to her first big arena type rock show this September when we go see Alice Cooper and Ace Frehley in Chicago.
Avatar 11:30pm Discotech Underground:

BPN-Just made a fresh pot, Bob...help yourself. Cream is in the fridge if you need some.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30pm Julie P.:

Bob - I ALWAYS have coffee!
  11:31pm RickJones:

Alice Cooper opened in Tinley Park, IL in Sept 2018 and pit on an excellent show...my third time seeing him and first time seeing him do the guillotine illusion.
Avatar 11:31pm bigplanetnoise:

Jooolz - Perfect. Lots of ice, please.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm Candy-O'67:

Thx for all the info, Kip! I'll be looking for their early work for sure!!
Avatar 11:32pm Discotech Underground:

I have seen him probably ten times, starting in 1987 with his first tour sober. He comes around my area a lot and the tickets are usually pretty cheap. Always a good show. I'm actually doing back to backs that weekend...Friday night in Chicago, Saturday night in Detroit!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32pm Candy-O'67:

I'm drinking coffee now! Haha!
  11:33pm RickJones:

I took my son to see him when my son was in 7th grade,.he loved his concert...he and his wife have an autographed Cooper tour poster hanging in a nice frame in their dining room!
Avatar 11:33pm Discotech Underground:

Sure thing, Candy-O! I always try to help people find incredible music if I possibly can!.

Avatar 11:34pm bigplanetnoise:

Avatar 11:34pm Discotech Underground:

Dr. Mind-This LP was a dollar bin special! I got this one and their first one for a buck each! Not immaculate but clean enough to play and enjoy!
Avatar 11:34pm WLSClark:

Alice Cooper was playing Chicago back as early as 68 I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm Candy-O'67:

Haha, Bob! Love it!🙌☕
  11:35pm Dr. Mindburger:

Huge faves.
Avatar 11:35pm Discotech Underground:

Avatar 11:36pm WLSClark:

Julie, look who's here!!
Avatar 11:37pm Discotech Underground:

Julie-Todd is coming to Grand Rapids, Michigan later this year! He's playing one side of "A Wizard, A True Star" and other stuff.
Avatar 11:38pm Discotech Underground:

Julie-You're a Todd fan, I take it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38pm Candy-O'67:

Yay, Jooles! Look at that great pic of Todd!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38pm Julie P.:

Kip - he has a few Florida dates scheduled but nothing really close to me. Hoping he adds another date or two.
Avatar 11:38pm Discotech Underground:

Julie-He plays GR all the time! I've caught two shows so far.
Avatar 11:38pm MOM WHIG:

Rick to be your age again - I have two sons 53, and 44 - I'm a bit old than you 74. The older one of course likes music a ton---60's. I have seen u-2 a few times
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39pm Julie P.:

Kip - since 1977.
Avatar 11:40pm WLSClark:

Todd is like hank Snow--"Ive been Everywhere." He was even here in Lincoln in last 5 years!
Avatar 11:41pm Discotech Underground:

Julie-Sweet! I got into the Nazz albums after finding them when I was in high school and it went from there. My favorite show I saw in person was the Utopia reunion, especially when they did material from the first two Utopia albums! LOVE those!
Avatar 11:42pm StringOFperils:

Great to hear a whole line-up of this stuff. And I don't even have to get record crud under my fingernails. Love it!
Avatar 11:42pm Discotech Underground:

StringOFperils-Leave the driving to me! Sit back and relax and enjoy!
  11:42pm RickJones:

MOMWHIG...I have seen U2 ten times, the first in Dec. 1981 when I met ADAM and THE EDGE at a record store meet and greet before the show,,,they performed in the basement of Dooley's nightclub in E. Lansing, MI then for $6 ticket price...most recently saw at Soldier Field and United Center in Chicago1
  11:43pm Jon:

I may have to go to that Grand Rapids show...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43pm marpay:

Avatar 11:44pm Discotech Underground:

Jon-The Tod show is November 5th at 20 Monroe Live.
  11:44pm RickJones:

I saw Utopia in 1976...saw Todd in mid 90s in Hobart IN in a grocery store parking lot...and took my son to see him at Park West in Chicago about 4 years ago
Avatar 11:45pm Discotech Underground:

marpay-This is their very first LP, before "Mirage" which was their second.
  11:45pm Jon:

Awesome, thanks for letting me know.
Avatar 11:45pm Discotech Underground:

This is the "prog" set in case anyone hadn't noticed!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46pm Julie P.:

Kip - I saw one of those shows, and it was magical! There was a large gap between 1977 and when I got to see him again in 1994, so I've spent subsequent years trying to see him whenever possible. I've seen something like 14 shows and it never gets old. You NEED to see him do "Wizard"; that is one of my all time faves and hangs signed on my wall. I may have to rent a car if no new dates come up.
Avatar 11:46pm WLSClark:

SO many great Utopia LPs. RA. Ooops Wrong Planet maybe my faves?
Avatar 11:47pm Discotech Underground:

Julie P-I plan to go in November for certain. Last year's concert drought was BRUTAL! I am going to go to every concert I can to make up for it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm marpay:

They are just wonderful, thanks for playing, Kip!!
Avatar 11:48pm Discotech Underground:

marpay-You are SO very welcome! I am glad you enjoyed them! I try to pick out interesting things to play for everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49pm Julie P.:

RickJones - have seen U2 several times myself. My late husband told me about seeing them much like you did, in a rathskellar in Gainesville. They had so little material they played everything twice.
  11:50pm Jon:

I’m gonna just listen now and turn off my screen. Great show, thanks again!
Avatar 11:50pm MOM WHIG:

Avatar 11:50pm Discotech Underground:

Thank you for coming by, Jon! Try to come by on Thursday from 5-7 if you can!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm Candy-O'67:

Mom and Rick, I've seen U2 a few times, too, and got to go backstage on their Joshua Tree tour in Houston at The Summit! Crazy story how it happened, too! I only got to meet The Edge and Larry, though. It was exciting, though!!
  11:51pm RickJones:

JULIE P..When U2 performed in 1981, they did their first two songs again for the encore as they said they didn't know anymore, which was not exactly true as they had released two albums and hadn't performed all the songs from them...a great one hour show,
Avatar 11:51pm MOM WHIG:

Candy - glad you got to meet some of them. I never did. But had two great shows in Hawaii.
Avatar 11:52pm Discotech Underground:

I saw U2 once at 1st Avenue in Minneapolis while I was going to college. I think "War" was the current LP at the time. I did not know a lot about them but one of my roomies was a fan and he bought me a ticket if I would drive us there. So we went. I do not remember much about the set list specifically but I had a great time!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52pm Candy-O'67:

Thx, Mom, and that's cool you got to see them in Hawaii 🌺😁
Avatar 11:53pm Discotech Underground:

And yes, practically every live recording of U2 from the tour for their first album has them playing "11 O'Clock Tick Tock" and "I Will Follow" twice, at the beginning and end of their set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm Candy-O'67:

That's cool you saw them, then, Kip. I didn't see that tour, but was a fan rhen
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm Julie P.:

Candy - are you referring to the recent JT tour? That was quite a show!
Avatar 11:53pm WLSClark:

  11:57pm RickJones:

I never saw HUSKER DU but have seen BOB MOULD twice and Greg Norton with his band Porcupine once and got his autograph!
Avatar 11:58pm Discotech Underground:

Avatar 11:59pm Discotech Underground:

The Cramps show was wild. Years later Ivy used to buy records from me out of my Goldmine ads.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00am Jay S.:

I saw a Bob Mould acoustic show. I had no idea one guy with one guitar could be so loud.
  12:00am RickJones:

I have been buying the LUX AND IVY cd compilations of songs from their jukebox...great collections of obscure weird stuff which I like.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01am drowsy:

  12:08am Dr. Mindburger:

I gotta'' spin this lp. 1,2, 3 and a boot have been dominating.

As I've said before, despite growing up in the 70s, I never heard most of this anywhere. My brother and sister didn't have it, my friends didn't play it, it sure as hell wasn't on the radio.

It just feel weird to be discovering it now, given that I was there at the time.
Avatar 12:32am StringOFperils:

Sooo much talent in this one band. Even after all these years, I still marvel at it.
Avatar 12:32am bigplanetnoise:

Jay - we're all still hearing new old-things every day!
Avatar 12:32am Discotech Underground:

Jay S-The days of free form underground radio live again on places like this! My goal is to be the radio station I always wanted to hear!
  12:33am sufferwords:

is this Robin Trower in Procol?
Avatar 12:33am StringOFperils:

Avatar 12:33am Discotech Underground:

sufferwords-Yes, that's him playing on this track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33am Jay S.:

Exactly, Kip! Better late to have great radio than never!
Avatar 12:34am Discotech Underground:

I have seen Trower like 15 times and met him several times at after show meet and greets. Very nice guy and always willing to sign autographs if you catch him at the right time.
Avatar 12:35am StringOFperils:

Oh man, this is great to hear this. Hah! this LP and Blue Matter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35am Jay S.:

One other aspect is that if I did hear it, I probably didn't know what I was hearing. It's so helpful to have the artist, song title and album cover while hearing it.

When I was a kid in high school I listened to CLYDE CLIFFORD on Beaker Street on KAAY radio out of Arkansas from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m....my parents thought I was sleeping! Lots of cool, underground music 3as played.
Avatar 12:35am Discotech Underground:

String-Don't forget A Step Beyond, too!
  12:36am sufferwords:

dude- my act use to cover Day of the Eagle…earlier 80’s
‘punk’ gigs it ruled
  12:36am Scobot:

Jay S. Same with me. I think the turning point was Aja/SD. That’s when I felt that I discovered music that I never heard before. For some, that might not be the best example but it sounded so perfect from listening to garbage FM.
Avatar 12:36am StringOFperils:

True! Looking In ain't bad either. All in all, Savoy Brown is worth the trip.
Avatar 12:36am Discotech Underground:

Jay-I used to be able to get some far off FM stations at night on occasion. It definitely shaped my perspective of how radio should be. I worked in real radio for 16 years and it's nothing like it was once upon a time.

Speaking of insects, the Honeybees are wearing something that doesn't look a lot like a honeybee. But turtleneck and boot power counts for a lot.

Shortly before I discovered WFMU, I was wishing I could get hold of old WBCN playlists, just to look at to appreciate and miss the range I'd enjoyed in the few years I was a regular listener. Then I found FMU and mmmmm ahhhhhhhhhhh.
Avatar 12:37am bigplanetnoise:

Chris Youlden = hands-down, one of the best vocalists in R&R.
Avatar 12:37am Discotech Underground:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39am Jay S.:

College is supposed to be a broadening experience, but I don't recall anyone on my dorm floor playing much that was cool. Mostly the same stuff that was on the radio.
  12:40am Scobot:

I first fell in love with Fleetwood Mac when I heard Heroes Are Hard to Find.
Avatar 12:40am StringOFperils:

I wonder if KAAY is the Arkansas station I used to listen to when I was a kid in the 60s. I used to stay up hours and hours after bedtime in northern Ontario listening to it bounce across Lake Superior. That and WLS.Chicago...which is how I got here.
Avatar 12:40am Discotech Underground:

Commercial radio is no better. I have been out of it longer than I was in it and I don't miss it at all. Too corporate now. THIS is REAL RADIO!
Avatar 12:41am bigplanetnoise:

Listening to late night radio --> taking big chances in cut-out bins --> working in record stores
Avatar 12:42am Discotech Underground:

I could get WGRD FM out of Grand Rapids, Michigan sometimes. They were incredible in the 70's. They played a lot of progressive rock things like Camel and Caravan. In fact, I still get people at the record shows in Grand Rapids asking me for Camel and Caravan based on that!
Avatar 12:42am Discotech Underground:

BPN-For me, it was all that AND garage sale hunting and buying things I didn't recognize for cheap just to take a chance!
Avatar 12:44am Discotech Underground:

Continuing with the Peter Green theme...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45am Jay S.:

The ring makes it look like the cat is jumping through a hoop.
Avatar 12:46am Discotech Underground:

Man, this LP is HARD to find without it! I was on a thread on a Facebook page that asked "What albums do you literally NEVER find without ring wear?" My answer was Frank Zappa "Apostrophe"!
  12:46am RickJones:

I still like searching through dollar bins and thrift stores for obscure records.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47am Julie P.:

Kip - we were having that discussion about the Sweetwater album on BPN one night.
Avatar 12:47am MOM WHIG:

I'm with you Rick - I too love to search bins for LP and 45's at Thrift palces here too. Not too much lately though.
Avatar 12:48am Discotech Underground:

Julie-Yep, that's a common one for ring wear. Grand Funk "Closer To Home" is another.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48am Candy-O'67:

Same, Mom and Rick!
Avatar 12:48am MOM WHIG:

Avatar 12:57am Discotech Underground:

Julie-Well, they're English, so they have that medieval thing going for them!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58am Julie P.:

Kip - so much hair you can't see the stiff upper lip!
Avatar 12:59am Discotech Underground:

Julie-Always the stiff upper lip. My family is English so I know ALL ABOUT the English resolve...
Avatar 1:00am Discotech Underground:

Julie-Plus I bet it was cold during the photo shoot. It's always cold there, I understand.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00am Julie P.:

Kip - I've got a few Brits in my line myself! And a number of Aussies!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01am Julie P.:

Cold AND damp. That's a winter photoshoot if I ever saw one.
Avatar 1:02am Discotech Underground:

Oh yeah...my family came over after the Civil War and settled into being farmers in northern Indiana after coming in through Canada! The stiff upper lip thing dies hard!
Avatar 1:03am Discotech Underground:

And yes, England is not known for it's lengthy summers.
