"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

This has been on repeat in my head since the last time I heard this show. Then I heard Don Henley's Dirty Laundry and nearly had a heart attack when it did that 80s jingle.
  9:05am Sean Fahrrad:

I tell you - every time I hear the intro to this, I know it is Don Henley's Dirty Laundry, but all I can hear is Karen O & Danger Mouse, Turn The Light

I go out at night....

Greetings from Folly Beach SC, where I have a 1982 boombox strapped to the front of my golf cart, blasting WFMU directly at those pelicans
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15am karlward:

It's one of those boomboxes that takes 12 D batteries so you know I mean business

ChukAmok! How goes?

Juli, kind of like this? external-content.duckduckgo.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34am ChukAmok:

It's been awhile, but I used to take L-Theanine before bed to relieve residual stress and the dreams were incredible. Some lucid, even.
Avatar 9:34am Juli:

I am quite good at lucid after readin a book on the subject
Avatar 9:35am Waka:

This is disturbing and appealing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35am ChukAmok:

It goes well Handy! Spent all of yesterday trout fishing in the mountains and it was such a beautiful day!

Has anyone seen the movie Frank? This reminds me of that band but when they were attempting to go more pop/mainstream.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36am Handy Haversack:

Wow, nice, ChukAmok. I mean, less so for the trout, but sounds great! Any cooler there? It's horrid here. Scrotal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36am ChukAmok:

Why not both, Karl?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37am Handy Haversack:

Were I to battle the gods, I would probably put on underwear at least.
Avatar 9:38am Juli:

I have been able to lucid dream where I am like I wanna go talk to some random ppl in dream land...and it has gotten so real I can like feel ppls breath and experience some dreams like I am just awake. It is instense...lemme see if I can find the book. But the main principle is to ask the waking world "Is this a dream" constantly
Avatar 9:38am Juli:

I try to treat the world like a dream but that isn't easy to do outside the city. the city is a great place to roam like in dreamland
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39am YETI BOB:

Handy = hahaha. There are some fine butts in the painting. Even the guy with the blue pants - they are hugging his ass pretty tightly
Avatar 9:39am Waka:

For good dreams, leave the lights on and WFMU playing.
Avatar 9:39am Juli:

Always WFMU thru the night yeah lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40am ChukAmok:

The trout are treated as humanely as humanly possible and all are released, if that's any consolation. It was much cooler in the mountains, especially knee-deep in a river. Back home in the Piedmont it's very hot and incredibly humid. What I wouldn't do for a breeze.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42am Handy Haversack:

Right, Yeti Bob? Like two puppies in a pillowcase!

ChukAmok, since our city instincts are still coming back online after the full-bore pandemic year, we forgot to check the planned subway work before going on what we thought would be a surgical strike to see Yo Kinky's first live set at 10:30. The L stopped running at 11, we had just missed the shuttle bus, and so we started trudging through the hot night soup (with added industrial effluviants, thanks, Bushwick). Ended up walking to the Metropolitan G station -- where we finally saw a cab and were all, screw it, it's the same price at this point, let's take it home.
  9:43am Yes:

Good morning! I thought my hearing failed suddenly but it was just a volume drop. Or the coffee did something to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am ChukAmok:

I kind of miss hot Brooklyn night like those, Handy; though admittedly I was much younger then.
Riding bikes through steamy Bushwick during the '03 blackout was sublime, for instance.
Avatar 9:49am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Klassical Ass Paintings 101
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50am Handy Haversack:

Oh, man, it was so hot then! We ended up on the roof that first night eating free ice cream and drinking free beer from the bodega with our neighbors.

K8 actually has a play series based on the blackouts of 1965, '77, and '03, with an added one about a future blackout. All very much about gentrification, race, economic violence.

Last night, all I could think was "if we'd paddled here, we would be making much better time!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am YETI BOB:

Have fun, Yes! What are you driving?
  9:53am TerrDE:

We did some shit like this when I got my first tape recorder as a teen...we erased it. Refering to last cut
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am YETI BOB:

DON'T POST WHILE DRIVING! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54am YETI BOB:

TerrDE: Never erase those juvenille recordings - you might just be the next Amanda!
  9:54am Fred:

Great show! BTW - I think he pronounces it "Id", not I.D.
Thanks for playing all the good stuff
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56am WoodsOfNH (now Maine):

Hey all. Late start. Just got back from the recycling/transfer stations. My duty done for the week. I get the same feeling from that I used to get after getting out of confession when I was a little kid. Minus the guilt, of course.
Avatar 9:56am John Allen:

Id needs to be controlled Fred, so I spell it out
  9:57am TerrDE:

You're right YetiBob, I saved the ones that were at least 1% good.
  10:07am TerrDE:

after hearing today's selections it makes me realize that all me and my friends noise music was way better than we thought, if this is the standard... I mean, come on outside artists, having a loop going whup whee, whup whee for half an hour while you make mouth noises over it probably isn't going to be interesting to you by the second playback.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07am Handy Haversack:

Back announcing as superego. It all makes sense now.
Avatar 10:10am John Allen:

which artist is it you have a problem with TerrDE?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am YETI BOB:

"Whup whee" sounds like a description of the Dilloway track
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am WoodsOfNH (now Maine):

"Whup whee" sounds like something Kerouac would have said.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13am Handy Haversack:

WHUP and WHEE are, coincidentally, my knuckle tattoos.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13am LastVisibleDog:

Wow, this is really nice!
Avatar 10:14am John Allen:

if you've got something to get off your chest to compare, let's hear what yr talking about. Send us some sounds and we'll see if they are better than you thought.
  10:17am Fred:

Id is totally out of control for sure! Spelling his name out won't change that. :D
  10:17am TerrDE:

Good morning Jonathan, just the mouth noise guy, it's something anyone could do at home w bongos. If he was incredibly adapt at scating or playing two tabla rhythms simultaneously...
Avatar 10:19am John Allen:

I think you've got the wrong show, I'm not Jonathan
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19am WoodsOfNH (now Maine):

10:20am Dave in St Albans UK:

In the garden in the sun and this works for me! Great show.
  10:21am TerrDE:

seriously ? we did a song" I hate mosquitos" w T-RUMP ( his rap name) on vocals . Apparently don hates mosquitos. I could cloud it and link it.
Avatar 10:23am John Allen:

Handy, there are some awfully tall grasses here.

John-o-thon, the field qua field is unremarkable, grass and clover and little weedy flowers that the bees still seem to enjoy. Field’s current out-standing features include dog, ball, hot coffee, cool water, WFMU.org stream, and a creature more sunscreen and bugspray than man.

@Passiac - I didn't even think about looking on bandcamp. I have one Id M tape that I bought directly from Id M before I new who he was when I visited Portland Maine a few years ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32am PaulRobeson1920:

Hey Yeti BOB. I’m wondering how is yer garden growing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am Passaic River Blues:

@Tim: was that at Strange Maine? If so, I did the same exact thing! I was strolling Commercial Street killing time before catching a ferry, walked into SM, bought some ALF trading cards, complimented the guy behind the counter on the music he was playing, and so then bought a cassette. Something like a year or so later, I saw a picture of id m theft able on the internet and thought, "Holy shit! I know that bear of a man!"

@Passaic - It was a Strange Maine and my story is pretty similar. I stopped in the the store and asked the weird beard working if he had any tape recommendations. After explaining that I as looking for genuinely weird music, the SM dude said "here's some of my music". I told my friend about it later and he said "Oh yeah, Id M gets played on FMU all the time."

@Yeti good to hear about the Cucumbers! Cucumbers love to climb. Promontory riders
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50am ChukAmok:

@TomDash What/where is Vision Fest? Intrigued.
  11:50am TerrDE:

Yeti, have you ever let cucumbers ripen ? They turn Yellow and the flesh becomes gelatinous. Taste very different.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am PaulRobeson1920:

Cubed Cucumber with chopped up watermelon is great in the summer. Diced mint mixed in. Served ice cold
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am Ken From Hyde Park:

My aunt forwarded me an email chain listing maybe fifty uses for cucumbers. Like cleaning silverware and such. I deleted it after I read it. I imagine there are a bunch of web sites listing neat ways to use cucumbers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am ChukAmok:

Agreed w/ PaulRobeson1920: any news about cucumbers is good news.

I had been hoping you would have a Burgundy Okra growing this year and take pictures!! My heart!! It’s ok! The garden grows undeterred
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am Handy Haversack:

Dang, how did it get so late? I am going to assume some kind of deviant time signature was involved.

@Spence from Baltimore: There are tons of recipes online. Some use sour cream to make it creamy, I do not. I just chop up tomato, cucumber, onion/scallion, a little lemon or lime juice, cilantro and/or parsley, and a jalapeño or serrano pepper, salt and pepper, you're good to go
