It really is incredible Zoe! So much music and talent out there.. and you really couldn't do it on your own back then.. It was pretty much a given that you had to be signed to a label! Which still wasn't a guarantee that everyone would hear your music..The USA was so regional compared to the UK, which is only the size of New York State. The UK also had a few music newspapers that constantly needed something new to write about each week!

As for Steppenwolf- the lead singer of my band had a spot at Fountain and Gardner in Hollywood - it was an old wooden two story joint with two small garages under it, we practiced in one- find out Steppenwolf also lived there once and they too practiced in the same garage-

I'm with you Zoe! We're lucky! All things considered, especially that in order to work at getting signed to a label, you had to have some demos, which were most often pressed to vinyl. Many of them still exist somewhere! Yah, I can't imagine how long it would take to play all the records in my collection.. too little time for sure! Thought I would stop buying records long ago, but for a number of important reasons I never did. Thankful for that!
