I've wanted to "cover" Joe's intro for some time now. Maybe the Yippers would get WFMU theme songs instead.

good morning, Joe and all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16am Miss G:

Thank you for such a beautiful set Joe. Helps me enter the day, so groggy after resorting to chemical sleep for last night. After so many wall-shaking booms, I found out I could have actually seen the fireworks if I had walked downstairs and a block to the right. Oh well.
Avatar 9:17am Joe McG:

@Miss G: Happy to help out with the mellow morning sounds! I know some people probably had a rough night last night, sleepwise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21am YETI BOB:

Avatar 9:46am Joe McG:

Thanks, Mike. It's so freakish. I've been feeling great for almost a year, and then one tug of a record bag and I'm lousy. You baby it forever, get better, and forget, and then whammo, here we go again.

  9:50am Layet Johnson:

Morning Joe, love the show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50am Pale Son:

I suffer from regular back issues too. FWIW, I find exercise the most effective preventative, as opposed to stretching, which offers some relief when things get bad.
  9:51am P-90:

Thanks for always being here on Mondays @Joe McG, even the three-day-weekend holidays. In Times Like These, the little pockets of consistency and reliability can mean more than ever to we huddled masses yearning to hear freeform.
Avatar 9:52am Mike W:

Heat, painkillers, light stretching...if you’re anything like me you woke up one day and realized you were Much Older Than Before and that things like stretching and whatever body management routines work for you are now like food. Gotta have them every day. (I don’t, I’m still stuck in the know-I-should stage...) A heating pad, even on a hot day, is always the most immediate source of relief for me (even as I case my friendbase for anyone with leftover vicodin etc.).
Avatar 9:52am Joe McG:

Thanks for the good advice, Pale Son! I haven't been on the bike lately, so that hasn't helped. @P-90: Love to be here no matter what day it is! @Layet: Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am Ken From Hyde Park:

Put on a long track and scoot on over to Brookstone and pick up a pair of inversion boots?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am Handy Haversack:

As the song for you started playing, Rev Rab, I read the words "Lebanon, NH," in my book!
  9:53am Buck Nicklepenny:

Good Morning DJ Surface Noise with Joe McGasko. I do love me some prog surface pop and scratch reverb tremelo.
Avatar 9:53am Joe McG:

@Ken: Ha ha! @Mike: I'll get some heat on it once I get home today. @Buck Nicklepenny: Good moniker.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Handy - what are they saying ?
Avatar 9:55am Mike W:

Irregardless (sic) we’re always grateful for the sounds you bring, and all the more so now that you’re playing through pain. Willis Reed, Kirk Gibson, every hockey player still standing when the Cup Finals come around, and now Joe McG.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55am Will the Sound Guy:

I agree, I have to keep moving and doing stuff. I fractured my L5 when I was 12. It's never been right since. Does it feel muscular, or skeletal? I've tried accupuncture which does work for a while. If I'm really bad, I go see my chiropractor. Feel better Joe McG!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56am Handy Haversack:

Talking about Poverty Lane Orchard and its planting cider apple trees instead of just commercial MacIntoshes.
  9:57am davefromtoronto:

morning joe and fellow surfacers - enjoying the show very much.
  9:58am Buck Nicklepenny:

My back will go out once every year or two. Usually after lying in bed for two or three days (depression) then my muscles lose tightness....then afterward the unexpected back trauma. I have started to keep an old-folks walker around just in case.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Handy oh yes. Is it the Michael Pollin book ? Botany of Desire...
  9:59am Buck Nicklepenny:

Don't worry though the walker is painted a sexy metalflake red. I am sure it a real 'babe magnet'.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am spodiodi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Handy, not being an experienced cider imbiber, what does — or does it at all? — (it must) — it pair with from the edible foods category?
Avatar 10:08am Mike W:

I might just have graham crackers with cider. A box of graham crackers and a country jug of cider. Keep your fingers and toes away from my mouth.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am wessexbonbon:

Do you ever play Dove by Cymande? It's lovely funky.
  👻 Swag For Life Member 10:10am 12539:

Joe, several internet sources say about DH: dedicated to Dirk Hugsam, an independent tour agent affiliated with Constellation Records who had become a close friend to many of the bands on the roster; he died peacefully in December 2018 after a long illness.
Avatar 10:10am Joe McG:

@12539: Thank you, that's great information.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10am Spinning Giant:

Mike W - Noted! LOL
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11am Handy Haversack:

Sounds like a plan, Mike W!

I'm no expert on that sort of thing, but I guess anything you'd have with white wine? Strong cheeses, garlicky pastas and sauces, spicy potatoes? All seem reasonable to me? But maybe that's just because those are things I like to eat? Maybe I'm just hungry!
  10:11am TimBK:

This song sounds like ELO's Last Train to London.
Avatar 10:12am Joe McG:

@TimBK: Hm, I don't know that one, I'll have to investigate!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am Spinning Giant:

Groovy tunes, this mornin', Joe - I am not on holiday - actually starting a new contract today and this mix is the perfect companion for kicking the ole' carcass back into gear :D

[hopefully i won't torque anything - knock on the old wooden noggin' !!!]
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am Miss G:

Handy, your book on cider sounds good, thanks. I read a bit about cider in "The Wild Vine: A Forgotten Grape and the Untold Story of American Wine" By Todd Kliman 2011 (also a bunch about Mr. Jefferson and his vine adventures.)
  10:13am morphe':

Handy - MICHAEL POLLAN's "Botany of Delight" has a great chapter on apples and Johnny Appleseed - imagining you already read it? Also, the marijuana chapter has a hilarious scene in which ...... involves a firewood delivery, a sheriff and POLLAN's wee marijuana plot

  10:21am TimBK:

@ Joe McG, I think you'd really love that track, the album is so-so, but that song is a great combo of ELO and disco/funk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am Miss G:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28am Spinning Giant:

Oh my...suddenly I'm a 15-year-old fresh-face high school newbie nerd again...lovely call, Joe...I was obsessed with this band for years but haven't listened in awhile...my go-to has always been and always will be "Louder Than Bombs" :D

Good morning! Re. The Queen Is Dead. I spent that summer ‘86 working as a cashier/attendant at an outdoor public pool. That cassette would get a daily play. Lifeguards loved it. Local kids HATED it. Classic rock fans they were.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40am Spinning Giant:

@YetiBob - totally - I don't buy any other t-shirts anymore - working on building up a full roster of Woff-Moo tees to rock...and converting the progeny to the same ;D

Oh yes, thanks to Joe and all volunteers at the station, I got my swag last week and it is so great! Had 70 sublime minutes with Fabio's DJ premium yesterday afternoon.

  10:47am davefromtoronto:

551! i'm back baby!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47am Miss G:

Because I lived through the Bicentennial, I recommend the great Pretender's video for "Night in My Veins" (1994) for a look at what it was like then.
  10:47am phat in Lincoln:

Not enough CB oriented songs these days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48am YETI BOB:

RevRab: I was 12 when Uncle Sam turned 200, even at that age I was a bit skeptical of all the weird patriotic hoopla.
  10:48am theia:

still raining
  10:48am Mark in Toronto:

Dave, where are you typing from in this vast city of ours?
  10:48am Bill from Rock Tavern:

Must have you confused with someone else .
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49am McGroovey:

Trucker songs were my favorite, when I was 11 or 12. I like to say that the first two records I bought with my own money were the Beach Boys live album "Wow! Great Concert!" and Pink Floyd's "Ummagumma", but actually the first one was a collection of hit trucker songs. I still have all three, yes
Avatar 10:50am Joe McG:

@Bill: Me and William Hancock are often confused! :)

Nobody told me there would be arithmetic involved.
I'm gonna need more time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I was 12 most of 1976 too... Had already been exposed via an older sibling to all the counter-cultural skepticism re Patriotism - indeed I'm steeped in it - Vietnam & Watergate from formative years...
  10:51am Emily:

You’re gonna make me cry, Joe
  10:52am Andres:

Spinning Giant: There was a real CFNY vs Q107 divide back then. I’m sure our Toronto friends here remember those days.
Avatar 10:52am Joe McG:

Sad song, Emily!
  10:52am phat in Lincoln:

Am I the only one who loves just about everything he's heard from Dion except this?
  10:52am Mark in Toronto:

I highly recommend the movie "1976" starring David Cassidy and the MacDonald brothers of Redd Cross.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53am Strandlund:

I haven't heard this for years...Thanks Joe!!
  10:53am davefromtoronto:

mark i'm northeast - you know where fairview mall is?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53am Spinning Giant:

@Andres - indeed! Back when CFNY was actually cool...

Steinski!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53am Officer Pupp:

ONE OF MY ALL_TIME FAVOURITES!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am Miss G:

RRN63 I think you are my little sister's age -- we are "Irish triplets" (me eldest.) Yes, Watergate formed me. Oh! I am enjoying your astrology you posted at Wake. (I can type because I took the headphones off for this sad song.)
  10:54am Mark in Toronto:

Andres: Listened only to CFNY thru the 70s and 80s. What was funny was when you started to hear songs on Q107 that they used to make fun of.
  10:54am davefromtoronto:

what do joe and jfk have in common?

  10:55am Mark in Toronto:

Dave, I'm working at Yorkdale Mall
  10:55am chresti:

Hi joe and noise company!
  10:55am Mark in Toronto:

Yeti Bob: Sorry, you are correct Sir!
  10:55am Johnny Staten Island:

Love this set. I graduated HS the year of the Bicentennial. Dion song is poignant as it gets.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am Miss G:

RRN63: I mean, "enjoy" with the Saturn and Uranus situation is a matter of taste I suppose. . .<G>
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am YETI BOB:

MarkYYZ: I just couldn't find a movie called "1976". This one sounds pretty wild though: "By the year 2176, a magnetic storm has degaussed all recorded history".
  10:57am phat in Lincoln:

I think maybe this Steinski is more my speed. Lol.
  10:57am davefromtoronto:

yeah you're on the other side of the DVP from me. the mall's reopened?
  10:57am Andres:

Mark in T.O.: When the Spirit of Radio became The Edge that was it for me. Thankfully I had found CIUT and it’s brethren by then.
  10:58am Mark in Toronto:

Yeti Bob: Any movie involving time travel peaks my interest, and it's directed by Rob Reiner.
  10:58am davefromtoronto:

are you toronto guys old enough to remember when chum fm played entire sides of albums?
  10:59am chresti:

I moved to LA from Santa Maria, CA in June 1976, 18yo going on 19.
  10:59am Mark in Toronto:

Andres: This is basically the only station I listen to anymore.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59am YETI BOB:

"Directed by Lucas Reiner". (Not trying to be a know-it-all, J just have the IMDB page open)
  10:59am Mark in Toronto:

Dave: Yes the mall is open again, with restricted access.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00am Spinning Giant:

@DaveYYZ - not quite @MarkYYZ - Ditto, brother - I can't listen to commercial radio anymore...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00am YETI BOB:

Sofia Coppola did the costumes. I think I'm going to watch this
  11:00am Mark in Toronto:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00am Miss G:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:01am Spinning Giant:

  11:06am Andres:

Dave from T.O.: The first time I tuned into CFNY the skeptical DJ played both side of Queen’s The Works and then declared them to be back!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am spodiodi:

Handy, thanks for sharing that Bagpipe link, btw! (i wanted to check to see if the audio was from the video you once shared before thanking you. finally did so, and the results are inconclusive, as the original link is kaput. no matter, was to satisfy my curiosity.)

TL;DR: Bagpipe is adorable. (and pigs can't be trusted)

What?!!! No Hurst? That slacker….
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am Handy Haversack:

Same audio, spodi! You can tell by my cackling in the background.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17am Miss G:

HH, re: Lou Andreas-Salomé, unless you speak German you have to sit close to the screen and keep your finger on the pause button for the subtitles. But it's worth it!

Mark Hurst is hands down wonderful

Hey Joe , Its a Korean Harp, a Gauguin. Played by Luna Lee on YouTube. She covers rock tunes, w a rock feel to her playing. Voodoo Chile is a standout as are many including a ZZ Top boogie. She can bend strings so her Blues covers are excellent as well.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am Miss G:

Oh, it's getting late. OK I never posted this before, but some might find helpful "The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook Book" by Clair Davies (there are also tons of various YT videos online.) Sometimes clearing up the trigger points in the chest, which develop because we've all been hunched over our computers, it helps the lower back to get back into place. You don't need a second human for the chest pokes. . . .Thank you Joe for an interesting morning! Feel better!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45am Handy Haversack:

suzyhotrod, we'll be taking the public out in the big canoes on Newtown Creek on Saturday. 12-4, under the Pulaski Bridge. You can bring your dog! Bagpipe will probably be there, too.
