Greetings, Olivia and Olivians!
Avatar 3:01pm Buffalo Bills Quarterback Josh Allen:

I THINK THEY SPIKED THE RAVIOLI THIS YEAR JOHN
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm YETI BOB:

I'll have ravioli, ravioli, and ravioli. Thanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm listener james from westwood:

Clicked in just at "Hiiiii!!" So, hiiiii!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm McGroovey:

Soon it is going to rain.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Ravioli like nobody's business!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm YETI BOB:

KFHP: It's Chef Boy-Ar-Dee's business!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm Carmichael:

I'll have the real thing, not Chef Boyardee.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm McGroovey:

Well, looking out the window, it has the look of impending rain, but weather dotcom disagrees.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm YETI BOB:

(Who was actually Hector Boiardi...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm sphere:

hullo hullo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm sphere:

who would spike ravioli?
  3:07pm Kpx:

It's 3:00 p.m. time to get your ravioli on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm Yes:

hey yall
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm tim from champaign (now washington):

Hello Olivia and Oliviolis!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm McGroovey:

I kinda like Chef Boyardee. It reminds me of my childhood. And college.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm Yes:

:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm Yes:

  3:19pm Kpx:

Would it be wrong to say that ravioli and pierogies are very much the same with the exception of what's stuffed inside.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm tim from champaign (now washington):

@kpx - Not at all. All great food cultures have a dumpling and or bread with deliciousness stuffed inside.
Avatar 3:22pm Buffalo Bills Quarterback Josh Allen:

ravioli is included in the wikipedia page for dumpling

en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar 3:23pm Buffalo Bills Quarterback Josh Allen:

this set is just killer btw
Avatar 3:24pm βrian:

Say, let's all go dumpling! It will be fun.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm listener 126464:

Tenderoni is an entirely different dish.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm tim from champaign (now washington):

Radio Tenderoni is when Matt fills in for Olivia.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Threemoons:

Heyo, back from eating lunch. Nice set.
Avatar 3:27pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Half a Century later - & What's Going On ?!
Avatar 3:27pm Editor B:

Right on, Marvin
Avatar 3:28pm Buffalo Bills Quarterback Josh Allen:

the middle third section where this breaks down and then builds back up to a climax is probably the best sequence on the album. just unreal
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm Handy Haversack:

Looks like a storm is about to hit Jersey City but totally miss Brooklyn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm tim from champaign (now washington):

I listened to a Marvin Gaye disc called "What's Going On Live" that was recorded in DC in 1972. It's a great listen. I was really blown away by how calm and serene Marvin sounded during between song banter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm Threemoons:

I see the sky is dark....all of my windows are open but I am hoping that it gives us a miss. I'm in Astoria. OTOH I can hear distant thunder.
  3:31pm Kpx:

The storm is causing a lot of static and it's drowning out poor Marvin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm listener james from westwood:

We had some rumbles in northern Bergen County, but no rain yet, and it actually got brighter. We dodged Friday's worst, so I'm hoping our streak will hold.
Avatar 3:31pm Buffalo Bills Quarterback Josh Allen:

the detroit mix of whats going on is also worth a listen if you havent heard it. its on streaming services
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm Threemoons:

@listener James hope my Mom is OK RE driving in any storm; she is out and about taking care of essentials today.
Avatar 3:32pm Buffalo Bills Quarterback Josh Allen:

it was actually the original approved album mix that marvin wanted but they ended up re-mixing it before they released it for commercial reasons
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm Threemoons:

Forgot to say, welcome Olivia and fellow Raviolis, Pastafarians.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm listener 126464:

great set
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Threemoons:

Dogs sort of instinctively know how to swim.
Avatar 3:34pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

AquaBroocie the WaterDawg !
Avatar 3:34pm βrian:

Beware the blue algae in fresh water. Toxic to dogs and other species.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm Handy Haversack:

That doesn't mean they like it, though! Bagpipe detests it. Freaks out when the water is above his chest. You really have to get him angry with a frisbee to get him to actually swim.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm Yes:

this bed is very relaxing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm tim from champaign (now washington):

They don't call him Bathing Brucie for nothin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Threemoons:

@HH my doggo growing up, a Basset/Beagle mix, HATED baths etc. Once we had to give her a flea bath (my little cousins from Upstate actually gave my dog fleas--really) and she was NOT happy. The little shits congregated in her crotch/rear leg joints so we had to drain some of the water and get her to lie on her back in a shallow tub to really drench that area. She NEVER bit but she was VERY squirmy and unhappy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm queems:

hello olivia & all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Threemoons:

Thunder getting closer here in Astoria
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Threemoons:

She generally got two really dense baths a year--one in the cooler months in the house and the other one outside, tied to a tree, in the heat of summer...much easier, involved a hose, and she really seemed to PREFER the hose and was much more easy RE being lathered up. I wish we had known the trick of smearing peanut butter on the bathroom wall to keep doggo occupied but then again she was such a chowhound it would have taken an entire jar to thoroughly lather her up and rinse her off.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm Threemoons:

I mean, she loved rolling in the snow but then we had to dry her off really well because she was a pro at the full body shake that dogs do.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm Jason from Houston:

❤︎ ❤︎ ❤︎ ❤︎ ❤︎ ❤︎ ❤︎ ❤︎
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm Handy Haversack:

Bagpipe will splash around in the shallows but gets really nervous when I'm out swimming past his depth -- or if Kate and I dare to both try to swim.
  3:42pm Kpx:

Thanks storm for creating all this static on the radio, apparently I missed a story about a dog learning how to swim. and what else I'll never know.
Avatar 3:42pm βrian:

I definitely had to talk to my cat during bath time.
Cat: "Are you sure?"
Me: "Yes, I'm sure."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Threemoons:

@HH Doggo is worried about his hoomans!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm Threemoons:

Apparently in Australia it's mandatory to learn how to swim in the school system! My little nephew, only 2.5 years old, already had his first baby swim class! Very reasonable if you ask me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Threemoons:

The idea is that even at a very young age, if they fall in the water over their head they can at least splash about and yell for help until they can properly swim.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm mariano:

Hi Olivia, folks.
Avatar 3:44pm βrian:

I floundered in the school system, myself, but I loved swimming.
  3:49pm Kpx:

@Brian - Well you being a flounder would make sense that you love to swim.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm Threemoons:

@Brian my head is all over the place, so I'll say this about school....the case I'm working on now involves student records, so one of the things I'm seeing is class announcements--and what the cafeteria lunch is that day. Wow school lunches are just as awful as I remember them (I always preferred what Mom packed, even on pizza day).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm Threemoons:

I mean, every single day, it's something with a lot of starch, a bit of protein, and a bunch of fat. And it all sounds like bulk crap that's been microwaved.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm Handy Haversack:

Maybe Clay Pigeon will go back to the school lunch report in the fall.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Threemoons:

@HH Oh, I SO HOPE he does! In the meantime, I can't believe what good stuff they feed the kids in State daycare in Melbourne! My Bro sent me the chart that the school sends him every week. Lots of yogurt, fresh fruit, tofu, Asian-inspired veggie dishes, fish, etc. They get free brekkie in the AM, lunch, and after nap snax. All healthy and balanced. If Clay DOES go back to that, I will have my bro send along the week plan and forward on to Clay.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm tim from champaign (now washington):

I loved those crappy rectangular pizzas that were served on the ubiquitous styrofoam tray. Oof.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm Handy Haversack:

Ha, nice. I bet he'd love that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm Threemoons:

Come to think of it, it would be AMAZING if our international Glisteners sent in their kids' lunch plans if their districts give them out. It would be a ton of fun! I remember seeing the my high-school-aged cousins' plans in Norway. Again, a hell of a lot healthier.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm steveo:

This is my jam. Hello.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm Threemoons:

@Tim I remember one very special day when we got home VERY late one night from a cultural event as a family, and Mom was zonked, so she said that if I wanted she would give me money for Pizza Day. I was all excited to finally be one of the cool kids who bought lunch but wow, I can still remember just how surrealy BAD the pizza was. Like @Tim said, a cardboardlike square, served lukewarm, on a little styrofoam square. This was before microwaves but EVERYTHING was steamed to heat it up, never baked. If we ever got a roll it was in a bakery bag still.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm steveo:

Just inflate his bladder, Handy; should have no trouble floating.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm Threemoons:

We should drop Clay a line RE School Lunch Day and giving it an international bend!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Handy Haversack:

Really going to miss Vocal Fry, but very excited for the returns of PLU and the Blind Tourist!
  4:01pm Kpx:

Tim fc(nw) - that was my first introduction to rectangular Pizza as well. I find now that the best tasting Frozen rectangular Pizza that you can buy is the ShopRite brand believe it or not. elio's Pizza, not so hot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm tim from champaign (now washington):

The grodiest school lunch I remember is the open face turkey sandwich. Glutony white bread with flavorless instant mashed potatoes slopped on with nasty ass processed turkey cubes plunked on top with extremely grody mucus colored runny gravy on top.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Threemoons:

@Tim I remember seeing those on kids' trays. It even smelled offensive to me, like canned dog or cat food.....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Threemoons:

@Olivia can you maybe get a porta-san for the Fair? I mean, if I can't go, I...can't go.
  4:04pm Andy:

There’s Hoopla and Libby.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm Heavy Chevy:

That, right there, is news i can use!
  4:05pm Beep Boop:

What jurisdiction does your library cover?!?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm tim from champaign (now washington):

@Threemoons - I mainly brought a sack lunch but had the occasional hot lunch. Nasty!
  4:05pm Beep Boop:

*incorrect usage
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm Carmichael:

No cafeteria in my Catholic school. Brought a lunch every day in my Flinstones lunch pail.
  4:14pm Kpx:

Same here, my earliest memories of taking lunch to school was in a brown paper bag. And I would see a lot of the other kids had lunch boxes, so I would ask my mom if I could have a lunch box, and she got me a flipper one. I felt pretty nifty about taking lunch to school then. But needless to say after some years went by having a lunch box was for kids, so I went back to Brown bagging.
Avatar 4:16pm Editor B:

I wonder if this title is a reference to Braiding Sweetgrass. Though I think Robin Wall Kimmerer writes "the land loves us back."
  4:19pm Danny in Poughkeepsie:

Love the show Olivia!
  4:23pm Kpx:

Carmichael - a Flintstones lunch box, you lucky dog you. So much better than flipper. Wiiillllmaaaaa !
Avatar 4:26pm βrian:

Some kids didn't mess around and got the lunchboxes where the thermos fitted into the top.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm McGroovey:

The transition from glass-lined to plastic-lined thermoses happened in my childhood. The glass-lined ones worked better, at the price of occasionally drinking shards of broken glass. But that was just an opportunity to get a new lunch box!
  4:33pm natbot:

The future of WFMU burns so damned bright,
Avatar 4:33pm βrian:

I'd think plastic would give an off flavor to those margaritas, but maybe that's just me.
Avatar 4:35pm βrian:

Remember when drummers had names?
  4:39pm Kpx:

On more than one occasion the inner lining of my thermos would break, so my mother would give me my brothers old ones and they wouldn't fit correchtly inside my lunch box. Now that I think about it I'm kind of wondering if some little snot head kid broke my thermosis
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm Handy Haversack:

Yeah! We loved Girls 5Eva. Very funny.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm Matt Warwick:

@Olivia when are you going to learn. I LOVE ALL TV
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm ChukAmok:

@Threemoons (4:03) I've been in the wind most of today but that's not the first time hearing something about a fair. What's the skinny?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm Handy Haversack:

'Cause 4-eva's too short!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm Handy Haversack:

ChukAmok, this Sat. and then every other Saturday, in front of Monty Hall. Record and CD sales. Maybe cassettes? Unclear!

One thing we know: No bathroom. So we all have to get very NASA about our wastes. Or, you know, use the diner.
  4:59pm Kpx:

Or what a lot of people do when they can't wait, they look for a blind spot and try to do their business as quick as possible so that no one spots them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm HyperDose:

Did I just step into a wormhole to the 90's?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm Handy Haversack:

Frell yes, HyperDose!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06pm ChukAmok:

Ahh, thanks Handy! I wonder if it's all of Tom Burgess's things that Word Up brought to Monty Hall after he passed away.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm listener 126464:

You guys didn't spend your lunch money on loose joints?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm ChukAmok:

The restroom-less record fair situation sounds like a worthy topic for the Fuzzy Glove Hour to solve, or make so much worse.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm chresti:

Handy, is there a library nearby? They would have a bathroom.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm tim from champaign (now washington):

Just wear an FBI shirt to the record sidewalk sale and you'll have no problems. Freeform Bathroom Inspector. It's legit because it's on a t-shirt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm tim from champaign (now washington):

Speaking of legit. This Drexciya is the legitest!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm Matt Warwick:

@Handy it is actually the Second Saturday of every Month, not every other Saturday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm DJ Guin:

@chresti -- there's a bar 'round the corner. drink and use the facilities.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm Handy Haversack:

Ohhh, thanks, Matt! I had misunderstood! This is not uncommon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm HyperDose:

Why can I see K8 nodding her head to that, Handy? :p
Speaking of which, how was the anniversary? Cook anything special?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm listener 126464:

Bring your wrinkled clothes to The Iron Monkey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm listener 126464:

Serious, metrograph.com, who's showing The Sparks doc, still showing Sisters w/Transistors, etc. is worth looking into @ 5$ per month. Quality not quantity.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm DJ Guin:

...or....or..you can just buy a Firestick, jailbreak it, and never pay for streaming content again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm DJ Guin:

Watched that Boxing debacle last evening..PPV...for free. smell ya tomorrow, kids!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm steveo:
