Hello, all! I'm pretty certain no one would be able to recognize today's mystery LP-under-the-cassettes, so I'll give the game away from the get-go. It's this: www.discogs.com...

Good Tuesday, Tony and all!!

David (in London):

Hello Tony. And greetings groovers here gathered for top of the range tape hiss.

I'm not going to look at the link yet, and chuck in a guess at something from the 80s neo-psychedelic movement, early release by The Steppes maybe..?
Avatar 12:03pm
Tony Coulter:

Mornin', James & David!

@ David: Nope! Not even close....

Hypnotic LP Sleeve. I am now under the control of tape hiss. Hello, fellow tape hissers!

Tony Coulter:

Hiya, Yvang!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:07pm
David (in London):

Just looked. Oh, utterly, miserably wrong.

Still, very reminiscent of the Encyclopaedia Psychedelia magazine which was published here in the 80s. So I was at least coherent in a wrong way!

James, Yvang, hi there.

JtotheK:

Is the LP from Lawrence Welk's more experimental stage? Hi Tony, hi everyone!
  12:13pm
Mark Williams:

Heya Tony and everyone. We are on very familiar territory this morning. What must it have seemed like to hear the Insane Music posse play at your local?
Avatar 12:13pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey there, JtotheK!

Once again, you nailed it. How do you do it?
Avatar 12:14pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey, Mark! I know! I can only imagine....
Avatar 12:22pm
Tony Coulter:

Doesn't sound like a whole lot of people were there....
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:22pm
David (in London):

I like to think they were just stunned into silence with awe, Tony.
Avatar 12:23pm
Tony Coulter:

Ha!
  12:24pm
Mark Williams:

Have you ever asked Alain Neffe about what doing shows was like in the old days? It seems they were off on their own circuit. Not part of the Industrial crowd, for sure.
Avatar 12:26pm
Tony Coulter:

Not really. I should. I believe Pseudo Code performed live in Belgium pretty frequently. Maybe as part of the new wave/post-punk scene?
  12:29pm
Mark Williams:

I have this and can't put my hands on it at the moment, but I recall one of the comments written to accompany a particular track mentioned the Fluxus movement. I can see that: https://www.subrosa.net/en/catalogue/soundworks/coal-heart-for-ever
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:30pm
David (in London):

I interviewed Charles Hayward from This Heat some years back and they were forever playing the circuit of strange, left-field little venues across Europe at that time, so Neffe must have some good stories about them, too.

Heya, NGH! Glad to hear you've been reunited with your body! Astral traveling can be enervating....
Avatar 12:35pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Mark: Still need to find a copy of "Coal Heart for Ever" ... it's clearly way up my alley....
Avatar 12:37pm
Tony Coulter:

@ David: Yes, I think Neffe did travel that circuit. He overlapped somewhat with the improv/new music crowd.
  12:37pm
Mark Williams:

It sounds like a lot of what we're hearing today. I think one of the tracks is on this cassette, in fact.

hi Tony! liking the hiss today
Avatar 12:39pm
Tony Coulter:

Hi, spodi! Glad to hear it!
  12:47pm
Mark Williams:

Ok, Three Hands is a different beast.
Avatar 12:48pm
Tony Coulter:

Three Hands never released anything, I don't think, but they were interrelated with better-known Belgian bands like Digital Dance and Isolation Ward.

Yo! Enjoying this tape. Hope you are feelinf 7-up!
Avatar 12:58pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey, Nick! I'm fine and dandy -- just wrestling with the accuplaylist, which is getting a bit screwy at the moment. Hope to subdue it shortly....
Avatar 1:00pm
Tony Coulter:

I guess it's obvious, but the Gammagluboline tape is the yellow and black one on your left...
Avatar 1:14pm
Tony Coulter:

Here's something about the venue where this Gammagluboline was recorded: "Paradiso is an iconic rock music venue and cultural center, located in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
It is housed in a converted former church building and was squatted by hippies in 1967 who wanted to convert the church to an entertainment and leisure club, but the police ended the festivities the same year. Though a year later the city opened Paradiso as a publicly-subsidized youth entertainment center.
A number of artists have played or recorded and filmed their concerts at the Paradiso such as The Rolling Stones, Joy Division, The Cure, Nirvana, John Cale, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Amy Winehouse, Nine Inch Nails, Guns N' Roses, David Bowie, just to name a few."
Avatar 1:17pm
Tony Coulter:

From Guns N' Roses to Gammagluboline -- that's quite a spectrum.
  1:18pm
Mark Williams:

that's your next theme show, Tony.

I am extremely jealous of seeing Blurt in 1981.

Mark Williams:

Your mother must've been a friend of the enemy of the people...
  1:42pm
Mark Williams:

I somehow overlooked "Cut It" by Blurt, which I think was the last proper studio album by them. Came out in 2010, but was just reissued on vinyl. It's really quite good.
Avatar 1:43pm
Tony Coulter:

Hey there, Starman! I'm envious too.

David (in London):

Ted Milton was an old friend of my father in law and used to scare children senseless on Brighton beach with a puppet he made of him called Mr Phew. Mr Phew was a small puppet, but he also made a massive head (he was blue) that he used to raise up from behind the booth at the end of the show and the kids would flee in terror.
  1:47pm
Mark Williams:

Hahaha. David (in London) - that is brilliant. I've found an interview with a young Milton where there's a photo or two of his puppet set-up, but never any footage. Puppeteers of the World Unite!
Avatar 1:49pm
Tony Coulter:

NB: The sound quality on this tape picks up after the Berlin tracks (the first four).
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 1:54pm
David (in London):

Mark, I went to see Blurt with my father in law in the mid to late 90s in Camden, here in London. When they saw each other they both screwed up their faces really tightly and said 'Phheeewwwwwww' in a really ridiculous voice. It was great.
  1:56pm
Mark Williams:

David - you can't ask for more than that.

Tony: throughout the week, I accumulate all kinds of filth. By the end of your program, I am fully cleansed
Avatar 2:12pm

I think it's fair to assume Der Junge Hund clocked a fair amount of time listening to the Contortions/James White & the Blacks.
