Hi Spacebro!
“Sex is one sac emptying into another.” That Maggie, such a Romantic! She’s ready for “The Torch Is Burning.”
Avatar 5:12pm
Mr Fab:

“Slow Beautiful Sex” is such the ‘80s yuppie time-capsule. Should be enshrined in a history museum.
Avatar 5:12pm

@ Scott67 - Dammit. More like H-E-double hockey sticks here. Hot and windy.

Digging the Fibonaccis
Avatar 5:17pm
Mr Fab:

I bought both "Tumor" and "Fí-Bō-Nă-Chēz" for like 53 cents a piece in the early '90s. They were a band that was pretty well known in the LA scene, but were more infamous/notorious than beloved. Very confrontational, which endeared them to me and Greg, but royally pissed off more than a few.
Avatar 📖 Swag For Life Member 5:17pm
WR:

Hi all.

Thank you Greg for introducing us / me to The Fibonaccis.
Avatar 5:18pm
spacebrother:

@ FP - Glad!
Avatar 5:20pm
spacebrother:

@ Fab - I was such a fanboy and I guess the confrontational nature just made me excited and happy in the midst of the deep depression that was my '20s. I had the drummer on my interview show a few years ago.
Avatar 5:20pm
spacebrother:

@ WR - I am so glad you and others are digging on this.
Avatar 5:22pm
spacebrother:

@ Fab - Do you know who they pissed off (besides a couple of record companies?)

Mirage Men - there are.. others??
Avatar 5:26pm
spacebrother:

Hello Ed! I like your surname.
Avatar 5:26pm
Mr Fab:

They pissed off audiences who didn't now what to expect. Maggie was such a snotty punk, but their music wasn't typical guitar noise. On the other hand, their instrumental sound was attractive to the art-gallery crowd, but were put off by Maggie getting all in-your-face.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm
Ed F. Sleestak:

Hi Spacebrother. YOu can have it too. We are many.

Were Fibonaccis ever on New Wave Theatre? I have this persistent, although possibly false, memory that they were.

Stan Ridgeway is also on it, playing harmonica. I've always associated Fibonaccis with Wall of Voodoo for some reason.
Avatar 5:35pm
spacebrother:

@ OtisN - They are made for FMU, so not surprised! I'm also "proud" that they're from my town.
Avatar 5:36pm
Mr Fab:

"Art Life" was great, didn't know that one!

Think I have a version of "Disgusting Man " on a comp. "Lives of the Lhasa," was it?
Avatar 5:36pm
spacebrother:

@Ed - Joe Berardi, the drummer toured with Stan.
Avatar 5:37pm
spacebrother:

@ Fab - I have that too. I think that's live too, right?
Avatar 5:38pm
spacebrother:

I used to go to the Lhasa Club a lot. They hosted a dance night for Mods for a couple of years. Just off Santa Monica Blvd. in Hollywood.
Avatar 5:40pm
Mr Fab:

Yup, "Live of the Lhasa" was live. Guess they never did a studio version of it.

Fibonaccis were def in the "weird-punk" (as I call it) bag with Wall of Voodoo, that's a good comparison. See also: Nervous Gender, Savage Republic, Screamers, Catholic Discipline. usually featured keyboards and odd influences. Loved that stuff, and have included some in the Sheena stream.

Avatar 5:42pm

'Twas a controversial scene: too arty for the hardcore crowd, too weird for the New Wav kids. A small but loyal crowd, I bet Franco was there!
Avatar 5:42pm
spacebrother:

@ Ed - I recorded with a shotgun mic and a stereo digital recorder and mixed the two sources for the best result. It was outside in Chinatown, downtown L.A.

All I knew of the Fibonaccis before this show was the number they did that was used for the end credits of the movie Android. I loved it but didn't know for years what it was until SM Ken played it a few months ago.
