It really feels like HALL .... (and Oates) .....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm WoodsOfNH (now Maine):

The last Hall & Oates album to be released on 8-track? Why no, that would be Private Eyes. There, didn't everybody learn something right there? (Beside it being obvious that I have no interest in working today)

Great song Joe!

Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 12:14pm Krys O.:

Paul McCartney was not keen on the Rutles and ended up getting partial songwriting credits on certain songs. The rest of the Fab 4 loved All You Need is Cash and, of course, George was in it and was a producer.

I am SO HAPPY that you're back in the Studio. Lighting tip- the switch by the back door controls the overhead lights. They are way harsh...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm WoodsOfNH (now Maine):

It's called: stupid.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Therese:

Not a dimmer, but an on/off switch for the REALLY painful ones.

Avatar 12:46pm David Shortell:

When I saw Grant Hart at the Brighton Bar in 2009, I asked him the name of the New Jersey town where I saw Hüsker Dü play in 1984. He couldn't remember either. The show was in a place called "New York South", banked on the Delaware River between Trenton and Bordentown. Randy Now started his all-ages shows there before moving them to City Gardens.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Jeezy:

Joe, thank you for vindicating me! As a high school kid in the late 80s trying to be cool, it was forbidden to claim major label Warehouse was the Du's best LP... but I also thought it was! Unfrotunately, it does not seem like you will be able to cure my other Husker-related issue from that period. I declined to take the train from Jersey in 87 or so to see them at the Ritz assuming the newly-released Warehouse might not get a ton of play. Of course, they played through the entire amazing album straight! (insert screaming in agony emoticon) :()
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Handy Haversack:

Back when I would actually go to work, I'd see posted ads for nannies in Upper West Side cafes and the like, and they would shockingly often mention that the job would involve "some lighthouse keeping."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm WoodsOfNH (now Maine):

I had an interesting experience (of re-entry) over the weekend. Went to a cool antiques co-op for the first time in 16 months. I found it to be sort of overwhelming....not so much that there were other people there but just...all the stuff!

I guess having reality reduced to just being in the house has changed how I perceive things. Anyway...really not what I was expecting at all.

@Handy - taking care of kids and making sure ships don't wreck? Those are some specific job qualifications.
Avatar 12:52pm Joe B:

i applauded huskers at the time for doing that. wish more bands would do it but most fans prefer to sing along to old songs they know
Avatar 12:52pm David Shortell:

I read that Ray Davies performed in Manhattan years ago backed by Yo La Tengo (Condo Fucks). At the band's suggestion, they played that great Kinks song "This is Where I Belong". After finishing, Ray admitted it was the first time he sang the song since he recorded it!
Avatar 👻 Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Krys O.:

@TOPT: Now you've got me thinking of Manfred Mann!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm tim from champaign (now washington):

I went camping over the weekend. It was incredibly nice not wearing a mask. Back to the city now and got my mask back on again.
Avatar 12:53pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@Krys O: There are worse things you could be thinking about!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm Handy Haversack:

Right, tim? I mean, it's tempting. I like ships ...

Joe, Woods, we went out for dinner on Friday night, sat outside, and saw someone's butt! A couple went out to get a bomber from the bodega, and one of them decided a shawl that kind of covered her front was enough for a warmish Friday evening. I guess the city is coming back?
Avatar 12:53pm Joe B:

i saw elvis costello and the attractions in '84 and he played zero songs from armed forces. it was a great show, i hadn't realized it until it was over and a few of my friendswere griping about it. he probably couldn't get awaywith that these days
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Ryansterlingvirtue:

@joe B No Oliver's Armies! I would have staged a walkout lol
  12:55pm Kpx:

@RRN63: thanks for the link, only watched 3 minutes of it. have to watch the rest later on account Brand is just going on too long, and with the radio on in the background and all it's a little difficult following him. @Krys O. Sorry, forgot the s in your name before.

I don't think I've seen a band play their current album in order. That would be fun.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Ryansterlingvirtue:

I saw the Psychadelic Furs and they did not play one hit. It was actually pretty nice. The show was still amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Kpx: Oh yeah it's JoeB Time !
Avatar 12:57pm Joe B:

i guess it depends on the band. for example, i only like half of soundgarden's catalog, so would probably be disappointed if i didn't hear songs from those albums
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm yerfriendpaul:

Scorching!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm tim from champaign (now washington):

I listened to Michael Shelley on Saturday. All he played was number one hits. I was hoping for a little more variety. Maybe a few number 5 or 12 hits would have been nice.
Avatar 12:59pm Joe B:

well tim, here it is only songs that bubbled under!
Avatar 1:00pm Joe B:

@tim - seen many shows like that. I dig it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm medson:

Hey Joe B and everyone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm WoodsOfNH (now Maine):

I saw Ginger Baker one time right after he'd put out "Middle Passage." After a couple of tunes he took to the mic and said that if anybody had come to hear some music from Cream, they were going to be disappointed.

It was a great show. Baker, a percussionist, and two bass players.
Avatar 1:02pm Hubig Pie:

The Rolling Stones did a show in my stink town in '78. They only did one song that wasn't on Some Girls, Keith Richards sang "Happy"

This has me thinking back to high school French:
À Point - (Pronounced ah pwa). Perfectly cooked. À point is used in the French kitchen for any food perfectly cooked, not just steaks! Forget what the guidebook says. For a steak, a point does not mean medium-rare! When an Italian chef wants perfect pasta, he or she will say al dente. In France for the same perfect pasta, a French chef would say à point: perfectly cooked. A steak in France cooked “ à point,” will be rare-to-medium-rare, with the accent on the rare. Rare-to-medium-rare is how the majority of Frenchmen and women prefer their steak and that is "à point", perfectly cooked.

absolutely: tectonic. every show has a genre of music arts and culture identity that seeks to uncover newly found or lesser known classics and contextualize them in emergent contemporary.

A Message from Station Manager Ken --

"The city of Jersey City has asked WFMU to prove that its programming has educational value, as a condition of keeping its tax exemption. This is a serious matter to the financial health of the station.

As part of this effort, we're asking our listeners to provide letters or emails explaining how and why WFMU's programming has not just entertained them, but has also provided educational value. The educational value can be related to the history and relationship between culture or ideas, or more direct value such as information about any matters of public importance. Tell us how you have gained knowledge through the time you have spent listening to WFMU.

This is a serious effort to address an important disagreement WFMU is having with the city of Jersey City. Whether you are an educator, a student or merely a student of life, please help us out with a thoughtful letter or email, and please keep them to 300 words. Letters should address the City of Jersey City, and can be emailed to helpus@wfmu.org by May 28th. Thank you for your help."

I can't believe this is what JC is focusing its efforts on. Yeesh. I'll be writing.

Also, reposting my comment from WAB this morning:

"So let's all put these thoughts in letters! If anyone hates writing and just can't stand the thought of putting together, 300 words, contact me through my profile and send me your bullet points or summary, and I'll draft a letter and send it back to you so you can submit it. Use this stupid master's degree for *something* worthwhile."

this work is inaccessible in a commercial radio format where everything is advertising and sales driven.

Just spoke with someone who works in the NYS Attorney General's office that deals w/nonprofits and mentioned this tax exempt thing. Was aghast and said "do you know how many sh*t-@$$ worthless organizations have tax exempt status?" Writing a letter asap.

which is literally everything. WFMU is the only cultural arts platform in the entire state of New Jersey of note.

@Handy Haversack
I read somewhere in Bob Fingerman's "Beg the Question" the genuine but little known definition of that turn of phrase. I've already forgotten it though.

great show! welcome back to the studio, and thanks, Joe B.!
see you all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm karlward:

David: not the origin of the phrase, but useful: brians.wsu.edu...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm Handy Haversack:

@David Shortell: Short answer: "assume the point is already proved." It's from Latin, so "question" is a little misleading.

Thanks, Joe! It always ends way too soon! It's the exact opposite of a business meeting. You're the unbusinessest!

And welcome back!

Later on, Montebanks.

KrysO & medson - Thank You for doing your part for Everybody !
Hydrate, get vitamins - prepare for a day or two of aches & low energy... Maybe most of all...bring something to do or listen to while you wait 15 min.s afterwards ! Don't take anti-inflammatory analgesics till you can't stand it anymore so you don't suppress immunity ...but drink like a damn fish. :D ...
