Listener comments!

Avatar 1:55pm Tony Coulter:

Hello, all! Today's playlist art is by Motohiro Hayakawa.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59am listener james from westwood:

Accurate rendition of a pre-Marathon all-staff meeting!
Avatar 12:00pm Tony Coulter:

Ha! (Hiya, James!)
  12:02pm Mark Williams:

Hey Tony and all who are about to salute you. I'm locked and loaded. Hoping you are too.
  12:02pm Mark Williams:

new BG? Where did they release this?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm David (in London):

Afternoon Tony and assembled groovers.
Avatar 12:03pm Tony Coulter:

Hey, Mark! This BG was released last week! It'll be on discogs soon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Yvang:

Hi Tony! Hi listeners! A start with Bene Gesserit is a good start.
Avatar 12:05pm Tony Coulter:

@ Mark: It's a double cassette -- in an edition of only 45 copies.
Avatar 12:05pm Tony Coulter:

Hey, hey, hey, David & Yvang!
Avatar 12:08pm spodiodi:

hi Tony! hi everyone!
  12:09pm Mark Williams:

edition of 45. Damn. Hope I can find one in time.
Avatar 12:09pm Tony Coulter:

Hiya, Spodi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm David (in London):

Spod! Hello pal. James, Yvang, Mark.
Avatar 12:17pm spodiodi:

hello David!
an hello Yvang, Mark and james as well (and lol james)!
Avatar 12:17pm spodiodi:

i can't stop looking at it
  12:23pm Mark Williams:

this Angeli is quite nice.
Avatar 12:24pm Tony Coulter:

It is! Like the BG, this is brand, brand new.
Avatar 12:24pm Tony Coulter:

I'll be playing more from it later (plus more of the BG).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm WR:

late connecting. will have to listen to the beginning in the archive. curious to hear what a major multinational corporation does with "I Hear Your Voice Is Dead (Other Version) Options" for May Day...
Avatar 12:27pm Tony Coulter:

Heya, WR!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm David (in London):

Hey WR,
  12:30pm headcleaner:

morning, folks
Avatar 12:30pm spodiodi:

empty tree thing?
hi WR
Avatar 12:31pm Tony Coulter:

Hola, headcleaner!
Avatar 12:31pm spodiodi:

hi headcleaner
  12:33pm headcleaner:

this set meshes well with the strangely cold, yet bright Tuesday afternoon (late morning for me still) we're having in NYC
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Stanley:

Good morning to you Tony.
Avatar 12:36pm Tony Coulter:

Mornin', Stan!
  12:36pm Mark Williams:

it's funny to me that I can immediately pick out Sanderson's voice. It's not distinctive as such, but his inflections and accents always fit over the music a certain way.
Avatar 12:40pm Tony Coulter:

It's impressive how consistently good he's been ever since the Storm Bugs days, 40 (!) years ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm David (in London):

Afternoon Stanley. How goes the great clear-out?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm chresti at the tennis window:

Hi Tony and forks!
Avatar 12:47pm Tony Coulter:

By the way, in case you want to know where this show thing is headed: The first half will remain focused on recent releases, but during the second half I'll be lurching backwards into '60s psych and such.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm David (in London):

Hi Chresti.
Avatar 12:48pm Tony Coulter:

Greets, chresti!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm chresti at the tennis window:

The playlist pic is a winner of this morning! I've seen 'em all!

Hi David (iL).
Avatar 12:49pm spodiodi:

hi Stanley!
hi chresti! \\//

\\// spodiodi-o \\//
Avatar 12:51pm spodiodi:

was admiring the artists' instagram images. cool stuff
  1:07pm headcleaner:

on board with the planned backward lurching, Tony
  1:10pm Mark Williams:

Tony - did you get digital or physical copies of these Futura Resistenza releases? The shipping costs they offer via Bandcamp are beyond prohibitive.
Avatar 1:14pm Tony Coulter:

Digital -- for the reason you mention. I have gotten earlier label releases as physical copies from discogs sellers with better postage rates -- plan to do the same with these. Meanwhile, I'm glad it's not obvious I've been playing a fair number of mp3s today -- usually I avoid 'em.
Avatar 1:18pm Tony Coulter:

But, well, I got all these digital versions for free, as promos. I'm really resistant to paying for mp3s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm Yvang:

This Damned song is so pop!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm David (in London):

The Damned are, I think, still the band I have seen live most times (just pipping Hawkwind). And they are still as bloody great as they always were. Due to see them at the end of this year (finger crossed), back with the original line-up from '76.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm Yvang:

This should be in the constitution "Mp3s are free and anyone who pays for it will always regret his action ."
  1:25pm Dane:

Lovely, Lovely Money!!!
Avatar 1:26pm Tony Coulter:

Dane! Got some for me?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Stanley:

Hi David, chresti, spod and everyone.
Big clearout #1 has been done. Tomorrow, a trip to the Municipal Waste and Recyling Centre (Formally known as The Dump).
  1:29pm Dane:

I hope that song is played often in casinos
  1:32pm headcleaner:

a nice little vocabulary builder, this one
  1:32pm Dane:

The whole Science Fiction Park Bundesrepublik compilation is outstanding
Avatar 1:34pm Tony Coulter:

Agreed! It's great.
  1:35pm Dane:

LITHICS are great at convincing me I can forever live in 1981, believe
Avatar 1:37pm Tony Coulter:

And, of course, they weren't even born then.
  1:41pm Dane:

I admit I'm very pleased that one positive cultural shift has at least made the sound of 1981 timeless
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm David (in London):

Tonight we're gonna party like it's 1981.
  1:42pm Dane:

Tonight and every night!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm David (in London):

I'll be wearing my This Heat tweed jacket.
Avatar 1:46pm Tony Coulter:

Sorry, boys, but for the rest of the show we're going to be partying like it's 1968.
  1:47pm Dane:

Deceit 1968?
Avatar 1:48pm Tony Coulter:

Ha!

Behind every (post-)punk lies a hippie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm David (in London):

Well, luckily I have my crushed velvet loons close to hand, so I can make the switch with a deft step.
Avatar 1:53pm Tony Coulter:

"Loons" as in "pantaloons"? Is that British hippie slang?
Avatar 1:54pm Listening Out There:

"Crushed velvet loons" must have been my cue to show up...
Avatar 1:54pm Tony Coulter:

Heya, hiya, L.O.T.!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm Stanley:

I'm going to the love-in to sit and play my bongos in the dirt
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm David (in London):

Tony, it was. A variant term for 'bellbottoms'.

Stanley, you play the bongos like no-one else.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm Stanley:

You can say that again, David.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm David (in London):

I'm due to go into the office tomorrow. Perhaps I could join a Gypsy Carnival Caravan instead...
  2:06pm headcleaner:

@Dane - re: 1981 - funny how the current moment is sometimes best experienced in the future. It seems that that partcular year took about 30 years to fully ripen, musically
  2:07pm headcleaner:

And as the current set indicates, we are still coming to terms with 1968
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm WR:

A plus 1 for the Lithics. I recall looking them up at least once before when hearing them on WFMU.

oh, didn't click post on this. Darn work keeps distracting me.
  2:18pm Dane:

👍 Yes headcleaner very true, that and other culture mostly going on 'underground' until another generation more broadly appreciates it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm Rick from SC:

Hey Tony and all.
Avatar 2:23pm Tony Coulter:

Hi there, Rick!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm David (in London):

WR. Give it up. (The work, not the posting).
  2:27pm headcleaner:

gusto mucho, ésta
Avatar 2:32pm Tony Coulter:

Señor Pippo? He's from Uruguay.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm Yvang:

Love this song by the Camel.
Avatar 2:34pm Tony Coulter:

Amazingly, there's live video of them performing it: www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm Yvang:

with Kaleidoscopes!
Avatar 2:40pm Tony Coulter:

Despite the mellowness, Mallard (on now) is post-Captain Beefheart's Magic Band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm David (in London):

What did Beefheart call them? Dilated pupils, I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm Julie:

this is really groovy, it's a duck?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm David (in London):

Mr Zoot Horn Rollo always had the most fantastic style.
Avatar 2:46pm Tony Coulter:

Ha! Yep, Julie -- a Beefheart Duck. (Hiya!)
  2:48pm Dane:

John French was touring some Beefheart songs a few years ago and doing an impressive job on the vocals
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm WR:

I actually feel guilt that I didn't appreciate Mallard for what they were doing rather than finding them lacking because it wasn't Beefheart. I'm sorry Bill, Mark and John.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm David (in London):

Dane, yeah, I saw the Magic Band here some years back and, with your eyes closed, you'd probably never have known it wasn't The Captain. In any other case I probably would have found that off-putting, but I figured French was probably owed some by Beefheart after the appalling treatment he subjected him to. Don't know how you felt about it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm listener james from westwood:

How the hell is it 3?! Thanks, Tony!
Avatar 2:52pm spodiodi:

thanks for the nice sounds, Tony!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm Julie:

yay Tony!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm Stanley:

Most enjoyable show, thanks TC.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm David (in London):

Thanks Tony, great show.
  2:54pm headcleaner:

thanks tony!
Avatar 2:54pm Tony Coulter:

Thanks, everybody! See you next week!
  2:56pm Dane:

I think it's great to make that stuff available for people to experience live! French probably deserves more credit in the way those songs sounded. Wish I could have seen it in person!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm WR:

Thank you Tony!

I love the French led Magic Band. Bought several recordings, didn't get to see them live but have several audience recordings, a couple of which are marvelous.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm Yvang:

Thanks Tony! Have a great week!
