	♥ 10:39am Doug Schulkind: @davefromtoronto You don't have to change anything if you don't want to. If you allow yourself to accept that "music" can be less narrowly defined, you may find a way to experiencing sounds like this that provide you with something meaningful. But only if you want to.
	🥁 ♥ 10:39am Artie: Most audio systems of the day may have had limited low frequency response, so maybe the engineers were just trying to boost that range up into audibility. Heard on a full range system today, it could sound a trifle much. But for me, I love hearing the bass player clearly. It's a real difference and a pleasure when listening on a good full-freq system.

	♥ 10:40am StringOFperils: I would LOVE to hear someone's dissertation on 'the appeal of this type of music'. I like listening to this, but could I tell you why? No. The psychology of acclimation to something intangible...hmmm.
	♥ 10:41am Listener Gregory: @Artie, hearing the bass is great. When it's the loudest instrument, it's usually not that great, at least in a jazz context. I think things are much better now, as the pendulum is somewhere closer to the middle.

Because the drummer is often doing something fascinating even if everyone else is just squawking incomprehensibly. Not that I have anything against squawking!

Prince Nico then headed for Decca, another recording giant, and was again rejected. In December of 1976, Rogers All Stars, a recording company in Anambra State, recorded the album. In 1976, Prince Nico and his band, Rocafil Jazz, released the biggest African hit ever, the classic "Sweet Mother" . The album soon became a national anthem, largely because of its emphasis of motherhood and its brilliant fusion of Cameroonian, Nigerian, and Zairean styles (highlife and Congo music). "Sweet Mother" sold over 13 million copies, was sung in Pidgin English and by the end of the 1970's Prince Nico's influence was going international and reshaping the music of some Ghanaian and Caribbean bands. Heard on a full range system today, it could sound a trifle much. But for me, I love hearing the bass player clearly. It's a real difference and a pleasure when listening on a good full-freq system.
