Peter Grudzien  Broken Bottle Glass Sidewalks   Options The Unicorn  MP3  This 1974 LP by Peter Grudzien ...is a psychedelic equivalent to Hasil Adkins in terms of his story, the number of songs he's written and his completely out-there angle on life in general -" - Jello

Peter Grudzien  Queen Of All The Blue-Eyed   Options The Unicorn  MP3  "I'd call it a low-fi basement Donovan from the Twilight Zone. He had titles like "Broken Bottle Glass Sidewalks," "Queen of All the Bule-Eyed," and "Satan's Horn" -" - Jello

Nicodemus  Heads and Brains   Options What For?  CD  "He has four albums (now more) featuring very aggressive acoustic guitar-playing--driving and hypnotic--and an instantly recognizable voice that'll send chills down your spine. The music is like Ennio Morricone Western soundtracks plus and American Indian folk music influence." - Jello
Options

Nicodemus  Rubber Spiders   Options What For?  CD  "Again, he has a very weird outlook on life, with song titles like "The Word of Parrot," "Heads and Brains," "Rubber Spiders," and "Long Finger of Flaw." Later he had a rainbow tattoed on his forehead. He has gravestones and sinister-looking artworks displayed in his apartment." - Jello

Nicodemus  Long Finger of the Flaw   Options What for?  CD  "It's easier to get your record together if you don't have a band and are a one-of-a-kind folksinger." - Major

Rin Eric  The Soundtrack to The Movie In Your Mind/Montana D' Anjo   Options The Soundtrack to The Movie In Your Mind  LP  "This brings us to the mysterious Rin Eric album which I found in Denver. This could be the only copy; it's a white-label test pressing with a magic-marker cover: "The Soundtrack to The Movie In Your Mind." This came with a 50-page booklet, and the first song has lines like "That Chevrolet is a molecule/The smog above, pavement below." The over-the-top melancholy refrain goes, "I found my double/You've popped my bubble." - Paul Major "The booklet contains page after page of xeroxed calligraphy, strange drawings (which would have a psychiatrist calling the police in a matter of minutes), plus lyrics like "Every time I see you our souls lock/Sometimes in the tick of tock." Heavy man..." - Jello

Kenneth Higney  No Heavy Trucking   Options Attic Demonstration  LP  "...Kenneth Higney. His music is disjointed, sinister and negative, yet he seriously expected Nashville to buy his songs. He doesn't seem to like getting parking tickets: "No heavy trucking, no heavy parking fines/I've got a gallon left in my metal tank, I can't go anywhere/my windows are closing/my fuel lines are frozen/I guess I'll sleep right here."- Paul Major

Mike Walter  Mr. Pruitt's Apple Farm   Options Mr. Pruitt's Apple Farm  LP  "There's many more regional records like this one: Mike Walker (actually spelled Walter), from Eastern Washington, around Yakima (same town as the Cops, Ltd. record) is trying to be straight country-rock, but something else comes through, especially on the opening track, "Mr. Pruitt's Apple Farm." - Paul Major "Folk and country lyrics are supposed to be heavy, bare-your-soul hard truths. But when some of these people try for a Dylan, Ochs or Guthrie anthem, things like this happen: "Have you ever worked in an apple orchard/and thought you were tortured/because of the blisters on your hand?/Man, you got to make a stand: 'Sorry Mr Pruitt but I ain't gonna do it today/I'm sick and tired of being wired to the basket on my shoulder/I'm gettin' much older'/hey hey, got to get away from Mr Pruitt's apple farm." - Jello

Hyde  Standing In the Crowd   Options Hyde  MP3  "The next example is when someone like this blunders onto a major label- Canadian, in this case. HYDE (the cover shows his weathered-looking face) writes passionate lyrics like, "If there's ladies in the park who'll attack you when it's dark, you got troubles, man." The liners notes say, "This is an artist of dedication with the scars to prove it. Think about your own dreams and what you're on to as you listen..." - Paul Major

Warren Zevon  Wanted Dead Or Alive   Options Wanted Dead or Alive  MP3  "Another semi-acoustic album with twisted lyrics is the first (disavowed) album by Warren Zevon, Wanted Dead or Alive -- the only record officially dedicated to Kim Fowley." - Jello

Options
0:55:02 (Pop-up)
Eugene DeLuca  Discover Each Other   Options Discover Each Other  LP  "In a thrift store I found this album by Eugene DeLuca of Philadelphia; there's no cover and it may have been one of those records made by studio hacks who, for a fee, advertise to "set your lyrics to music" and record them. The titles include "Boink-I'm a Lover" [pretty catchy], "Interspace Man," "Candy and Vintage Wine," and "Twilight Zone." - Paul Major (This record is near impossible to find, and there is no audio from it online. Instead I'm playing from one of DeLuca's later records, where he was experimenting with electronic music. I read that he ran a shoe store and was shot by someone robbing the joint."- Your DJ

Johnny Arcesi (Arcesia)  BUTTERFLY MIND   Options Reachin'  LP  "On another topic, the ultimate "Lounge Lizard Gone Wrong" award would probably go to Johnny Arcesi--" - Jello "He started in the '40's as a big band singer on the East Coast." - Paul Major (This song was requested by my wife Valerie.) -- Your D.J.
Options
0:58:23 (Pop-up)
Johnny Arcesi (Arcesia)  White Panther   Options Reachin'  MP3  PM: "...Then he went to San Francisco and Los Angeles in the late '60's, took a lot of acid and when he was 52 years old made an astonishing album titled Reachin' that's full of Twilight Zone '50's weird lyrics, psychedelic Doors and Blue Cheer-type music, fuzz basses that sound like rubber bands, rain effects--" Jello: "All topped off by booming operatic lounge singer vocals that absolutely do not fit at all--" PM: "--In a "bust a blood vessel" style of delivery."
Options
1:01:14 (Pop-up)
Johnny Arcesi (Arcesia)  Mechanical Doll   Options Reachin'  LP  "One song details an angel lifting its wing and gassing everyone in the room! I probably wouldn't have gotten the album if his style hadn't alienated the previous owner." - Paul Major
Options
1:03:59 (Pop-up)
The Shaggs  My Pal Foot Foot   Options Philosophy of the World  LP  "...What happens when stage parents force their children into a recording studio and force them to produce a record? The most famous example is the Shaggs album by the three Wiggin sisters. They barely had command of their instruments, yet their father took them into a studio, and the result was classics like "My Pal Foot Foot." - Jello (The rounder LP re-issue)

Options
1:08:29 (Pop-up)
Junior and His Soulettes  Thing, Do the Creep   Options Psychodelic Sounds  MP3  "A far more obscure album from Oklahoma is Junior & His Soulettes's Psychodelic Sounds - the Shaggs of Soul! "The oldest member of the band is Harold Moore Jr, age ten - he's quite a guitar player. Venita Marie plays keyboards, Denise Moore plays drums, and Jacqueline (age six) plays "waw-waw ogan," and is also the organist of the group - she began playing at the age of three." - Jello
Options
1:11:43 (Pop-up)
Junior and His Soulettes  Momma Love Tequilla   Options Psychodelic Sounds  MP3  Jello: "Song titles include "Thing, Do the Creep," "Momma, Love Tequilla," and even "Pimp." PM: "The song Mama, Love Tequilla" apparently was about their own mom - the uncle took care of the kids."
Options
1:14:30 (Pop-up)
Junior and His Soulettes  Pimp   Options Psychodelic Sounds  MP3  Jello: "The music sounds like uptown soul played on toy instruments--" PM: "But very competently. Actually, it sounds like strip-joint go-go organ music; one organ has a wah-wah, and every song is played in the key of C so they don't make mistakes -- they sound like they've been playing clubs for 40 years! Their uncle recorded the album in his garage. which was full of puppet theater props, stolen phone booths, mad scientist lab equipment, etc." - Paul Major
Options
1:17:53 (Pop-up)
Junior and His Soulettes  Rock 'n Roll Santa   Options Psychodelic Sounds  MP3  "Another great song is "Rock'n'Roll Santa." Most of the albums were shrink-wrapped on a relative's meat-packing machine; as a result the vinyl is usually melted. When my friends met the uncle, he answered the door wearing a sock with two buttons on it over one hand and asked, "You wanna meet my snake?" - Paul Major
Options
1:20:09 (Pop-up)
Yays & Nays  Nature is My Mother   Options Yays & Nays  LP  "Here's the Yea's (actually spelled Yays) and Nay's album from New Jersey: three guys and three women in a war-between the sexes concept album." ...Some songs are great full-on '60's punk, while the girls' songs are more hokey "put your daughter in front of a microphone and see what happens-" - Jello "--real sincere prom dress music." - Paul Major (This is the LP re-issue)
Options
1:23:45 (Pop-up)
J Ann C Trio  Hey Bo Diddley   Options At the Tan-Tar-A  LP  "Here's the J Ann C Trio At the Tan-Tar-A (a resort in the Ozarks, Missouri). "J" is shown with a bass guitar; she has a voluptuous body in a tight dress and spiked glitter heels, and the dummer looks old enough to be her father-- he's sitting in a semi-lotus position with a snare drum." They do great versions of "Hey Bo Diddley," rockabilly songs, and an original called "Voodoo Doll" with a hypnotic torch voice on top---" - Jello

J Ann C Trio  Voodoo Doll   Options At the Tan-Tar-A  MP3
Options
1:28:57 (Pop-up)
J Ann C Trio  Tunnel of Love   Options At the Tan-Tar-A  LP  "--that's surf-psychedelic. They cover "Funnel of Love" by Wanda Jackson, and do a nice version of "Night Train." - Paul Major

J Ann C Trio  Night Train   Options At the Tan-Tar-A  MP3
Options
1:32:52 (Pop-up)
Rick Saucedo  Reality   Options Heaven Was Blue  CD  "Here's a record by Rick Saucedo, "Heaven Was Blue," which sounds like the psychedelic side of the Byrds. On the back cover he thanks his dog "Satan" for backup vocals! Today he's an Elvis impersonator who won't acknowledge his past; I know someone who sent him $400 for a whole-sale quantity of records and he just kept the money." - Paul Major (another song request by my wife)- Your D.J.
Options
1:36:02 (Pop-up)
Artie Barsamian And His Orchestra  The Seventh Vail   Options The Seventh Vail  LP  (Featured record cover on top of pg. 51)
Options
1:40:20 (Pop-up)
The Muzzy Band  Introduction/I've Got The Music In Me   Options How Was It? Live Album  LP  B: "On to The Muzzy Band---" PM: "--featuring a greasy Jersey hipster comedian with longish hair who played bars like The Playpen, The Jolly Smuggler, and The Headliner where a lot of albums were recorded. The vocalist, Rose Marie, blows everyone out of the water with her drunken scat-singing. The double-necked guitar-player tells the most insulting ethnic jokes imaginable. In New Jersey, Italian comedians over Godfather-type music are a whole sub-genre."
Options
1:43:30 (Pop-up)
Tangela Tricoli  Stinky Poodle   Options Jet Lady  LP  "Now we come to a record by a Singing Flight Attendant (!) in L.A.: Tangela Tricoli, Jet Lady. One of her songs is called "Stinky Poodle" - Paul Major
Options
1:51:18 (Pop-up)
Tangela Tricoli  Space Woman   Options Jet Lady  MP3  "...another is "Space Woman." She's posed seductively on her Jaguar, which has a "Jet Lady" license plate, and her singing is spectacularly off - as if Wanda Jackson had turned into Mrs Miller." - Paul Major
Options
1:53:51 (Pop-up)
South Side Senior High School  The Wishbone/Hide Your Love/Augurs Of Spring...   Options Context 70 - (South Side Senior High School, Rockville Centre, Long Island)  LP  "Even high school talent show records occasionally provide something eye-opening, like a great garage tune. Here's Context '70 from Queens, New York, with contributions from various high schools. I especially liked the spoken word poem by Marjory Rudman: "Seagulls walking down the beach explore the sands for remnants of a Saturday morning/One with horrifying screech lands on the Boardwalk rail above a bench sitting woman/She, astonishingly, takes the seagull by his flimsy legs and salts him and eats him...a pitying bystander begs her to stop her eating/She wipes her mouth pleasurably and points to the bath-house roof/A safe falls and kills him." - Paul Major

Avatar 2:06pm BC Sterrett:

This seems to be the Frances Cannon theme song, as it appears on all 3 of her albums.
Avatar 2:16pm BC Sterrett:

Thank goodness this impossible to find Nicodemus LP was re-issued on CD. His later music released on Paul Major's record label "Parallel Worlds."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm Mr Fab:

Bee to tha Ceee! Hi, y'know I didn't know that Frances Cannon The Singing psychic made actual albums. I thought she was more of an early internet and radio personality (Howard Stern had her on in the '90s, as I recall) More rekkids to look for!
Avatar 2:18pm BC Sterrett:

Her records are fabulous! Her final album was released on CD. I got that one by calling her on the phone. I believe someone also posted that one on Beware the Blog :)
Avatar 2:24pm BC Sterrett:

This is what the CD cover looks like that I'm playing from.
Avatar 2:30pm BC Sterrett:

I wish Paul Major would hurry and do a radio show on Sheena's
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm Mr Fab:

Me too! He was up for it, checked in with him a couple times, but never heard back.
Avatar 2:37pm BC Sterrett:

I couldn't find my original 45 of Funky Kinky in time for the show, here's a youtube MP3.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm Mr Fab:

i few years ago I learned about another latter Kenneth Higney song - apparently he saw Johnny Thunders at CBGB's and was converted to punk. He recorded a song about it, whose title escapes me. But yup, it's Kenneth Higney goes "punk."
Avatar 2:40pm BC Sterrett:

Oh wow, I must hear!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm Mr Fab:

just looked it up: it's the b-side to "Funky Kinky"!
Avatar 2:44pm BC Sterrett:

Ah!!!
Avatar 2:47pm BC Sterrett:

Love the piano sprinkles in this song.
Avatar 2:47pm BC Sterrett:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm Mr Fab:

Man this Arcesia LP is one of my faves of all time. Nothing in the world can compare to his vocal delivery.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm chresti:

Hi BC and company!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm Mr Fab:

hey chresti!

Was anyone ever able to find out who his band was?
Avatar 3:05pm BC Sterrett:

Hi Chresti!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm Otis:

Hi BC and Archivers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm Mr Fab:

a track off "Philosophy of the World" was one of the first records I played on my campus station. And thus, i began my radio career, haha.
Avatar 3:08pm TDK60:

Hi BC. May be my first time here. Would Wickedpea tell me if the Shaggs /knew/ they were great, or not?
Avatar 3:08pm BC Sterrett:

Hi Otis!
Avatar 3:09pm BC Sterrett:

If they felt great or not I don't know. I feel like they more felt "forced" to make music by their dad.
  3:09pm Eric Kilkenny:

Good day, chaps! I'm chilling in Vancouver, Washington - got an hour to kill out on a deck with Lost Media
Avatar 3:10pm BC Sterrett:

Welcome TDK60
Avatar 3:10pm BC Sterrett:

Hi Eric!
Avatar 3:10pm TDK60:

BC, like the Beach Boys? ..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm Otis:

Feeling as if it was embraced over time. Full turnabout with Jello releasing Dot Wiggen's album on AT. Caught the band live here in Montreal a few years back. Here's the show I went to, so good, www.youtube.com...
Avatar 3:12pm BC Sterrett:

Holy Cow you saw the Shaggs!
  3:12pm Eric Kilkenny:

I wish Rich would turn me on to the best places to dig in Vancouver! Where is he when you need him??
Avatar 3:12pm BC Sterrett:

Yeah, kinda forced into the studio before they really knew how to play their instruments TDK
Avatar 3:13pm BC Sterrett:

What are you doing in Vancouver Eric?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm Otis:

Yeaaaa, got my Dot album signed by the band too. I never ever get autographs, only have 2 actually here. Dot Wiggin and Dolores Ericson the Whipped Cream Girl.
  3:15pm Eric Kilkenny:

@BC this temp/gig I have taking care of a lady with dementia. She has some surgery today and I pretty much have to just hang out and wait all day

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm Otis:

I always used to get Vancouver WA mixed up with BC when living in Seattle my first couple of years. Often I would hear, hey just got back from Vancouver and I'd say did you have over 10k, 200 cigs or fireworks?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm Mr Fab:

If it makes you feel better, BC, it wasn't the entire Shaggs, but The Dot Wiggin Band. Still pretty great, tho. Alas, they never made it to LA.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm Otis:

BC as in BC Canada. Not our pal BC. Ha.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm Otis:

BUT and THO... even though it was not The Shaggs... it was amazing. The timing on Foot Foot and songs, I can just imagine getting that perfected in practice. They pulled it off 200%!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm chresti:

I got a napkin signed by George Fenneman, in '75 (I think),when he was making an appearance at the bank that was near the family's then-house near Santa Maria, CA.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm Otis:

chresti, you bet your life (that's cool!).
Avatar 3:24pm BC Sterrett:

My mom has a form of dementia Eric, so I totally understand.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm Otis:

Whoa nice, did not know of this Yays & Nays reissue. Checking it out now, Lion did it, nice. I really like the other cut Paul Major comped on Feel The Music a couple of years ago. Going to search this out now. Thanks!
Avatar 3:25pm TDK60:

Jello B. has been doing short videos called What Would Jello Do? They're his political rants on the general shituation.
  3:26pm Eric Kilkenny:

@bc oh man! I've been running into it everywhere. Was at the store and the clerk and her customer were both dealing with it and Trouble mentioned it on her show yesterday
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Otis:

Caught a few of those TDK, real nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm chresti:

I think that's what impressed my future then-husband when I moved to LA the following year.
Otis, at the time I was (and am still) a big fan of the Marx Bros. and You Bet Your Life,
  3:27pm Eric Kilkenny:

gotta eat right, get proper sleep and some exercise + do stuff to keep your mind going as u get older. That seems to be the recipe for us.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm Mr Fab:

TDK60, I like how the COVID shutdown has pushed Jello into making music videos for the first time in his life. Really cool ones.
  3:27pm Eric Kilkenny:

@tdk i love the what would jello do! watched everyone of them
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm chresti:

Hi TDK60!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm Otis:

chresti - Groucho's bet is right up there with kovacs show in my book. And speaking of Ernie, I am forever reciting Percy Dovetonsils poems in my mind.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm Otis:

Eric - That's the recipe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm chresti:

I heard that you were stuffing envelopes the other day. @TDK
  3:31pm Eric Kilkenny:

Avatar 3:31pm TDK60:

Hi chresti! Yes, yesterday Handy, the Noggin and me stuffed manila envelopes with T-shirts, under the friendly direction of Scott W. | Monsieur Fab, I've not seen Jello's /music/ vidz.
Avatar 3:31pm BC Sterrett:

Have to switch between MP3 and LP when playing songs from the same record for smooth transition. This is a record I may die with. I'm in love with it.

Avatar 3:39pm TDK60:

I understand why an Elvis impersonator can't let you know he did the lysergic and lived in an old Addams Family house!
Avatar 3:41pm BC Sterrett:

I think I saw that there's footage of Saucedo's Elvis act on youtube.
Avatar 3:42pm BC Sterrett:
