I found a really nice Andrew Hill concert DVD. Watched it once, and when I tried it a few months ago, I couldn't get any DVD player to play it. Arrrrggggghhhhhh (I still have it, in the vain hope that it might somehow recover its integrity.)

I saw Andrew Hill solo at the Jazz Bakery around 2004. Dragged a "long hair" friend along, he not surprisingly could not detect the forms. Thought it was completely improvised and atonal (when actually he was playing compositions, a lot from DUSK)

New topic: I'm enjoying Amy Beal's bio of Carla Bley. She knows music. Was disappointed in the William Parker bio. (The author isn't here, are they?) Author didn't seem to understand music, book was mostly a chronology. Great research (interviews with everyone) to be sure.
