(just looked at wikipedia) that, and a longer "gutfest". it was a long album!
...sons of the p was also long, too long for an lp.
  12:48pm Eric Kilkenny:

Long story short, I delivered and set up a pinball machine at this mansion yesterday. Pretty sure the dudes were doing shady shit. Was a little like diffusing a bomb hooking that machine up hah
Avatar 12:48pm Feldpausch:

  12:51pm Eric Kilkenny:

@ursula it was a Bally 1978 Lost World. My buddy knocked a couple hundred off a machine I was buying if I delivered it for him. Pretty sure it's illegal weapons they are doing

Alex-- those roller disco gigs of yours sound so damn fun. I am too scared to get on skates, tho! LOL! But back in the day--- the 80's-- I used to go to ROXY ROLLER RINK! ever been there??
Avatar 1:28pm solo mon:

JYL w a Y!
Avatar 1:28pm Ursula1000:

Roxy Roller Rink! Great name! no never been---there's a great 70s glam rock track called Roxy Roller. yeah I'm the same skates--i don't trust myself! haha Marissa and Zenda are whizzes...I have that chip in me where I'm like "you're gonne fall you're gonna fall" and then...voila. I didn't learn to ride a bike till I was like 18!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Otis:

Loving this set, past 4 tracks... perfect for coffee, window open and about to head out to get my first jab today in an hour.
Avatar 1:30pm Ursula1000:

ooh nice 1 Otis! Canada finally getting their rollout sorted?
Avatar 1:30pm Esther Crow:

haha Alex....SAME! yeah, the Roxy was way uptown, I think...so much fun. I had my 12th bday party there in 1983. CLASSIC.

Avatar 1:32pm Ursula1000:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Rich in Washington:

recently reacquired this album after many years and it's aged well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Rich in Washington:

OMG, Urs! Me too! I think either my first ever concert or second!
  1:32pm Eric Kilkenny:

DEVO is 100% my number one favorite band above and beyond everyone else.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Rich in Washington:

Me too. Devo was the gateway drug that really got me looking for more crazy music. Seeing them on SNL as a teen really fucked me up good.
Avatar 1:34pm Ursula1000:

haha no way! crazy! my big sis took me and my friends. yeah these guys are pretty freaking special.
Avatar 1:34pm StringOFperils:

DEVO at its inception has to be one of the central works of late 20th century art, IMO
Avatar 1:34pm Domenic:

Cool story Rich!
  1:34pm Eric Kilkenny:

If you know them, they are a bunch of hillbillies tho! It's crazy that they made this music
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm Rich in Washington:

My older brother drove me. he kept looking at the kids in line in front of the venue and just shaking his head. "you SURE you wanna do this?"
Avatar 1:35pm solo mon:

I was sooooo into Devo in 6th grade the principal called my parents in to have a meeting about it.
Avatar 1:35pm Domenic:

I think there is a larger percentage of Librarians who like to DJ music...
  1:35pm Eric Kilkenny:

@Solo omfg that's hilarious!
Avatar 1:35pm Ursula1000:

^haha Solo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm Rich in Washington:

I remember getting into a fist fight with a friend behind a portable classroom in 7th grade because I liked Devo.
Avatar 1:36pm Ursula1000:

I def have that Librarian chip---Curator V.1
Avatar 1:36pm Esther Crow:

Hey you guys might get a kick out of this: I had a chick-fronted DEVO cover band called DEVA! We got to do their afterparty one year at Lit Lounge and Mark even flew us out to Costa Mesa to play his art opening! It was MAGICAL!
Avatar 1:36pm StringOFperils:

Eric, that's just it, DEVO was like the perfect piss-take metaphor for the culture that spawned them. They owe a lot to Duchamp, but so what.
Avatar 1:36pm Esther Crow:

Here's a fun music video we did at Coney Island: www.youtube.com...
Avatar 1:37pm solo mon:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm Rich in Washington:

Avatar 1:38pm Ursula1000:

DEVA is a-MAZING! I had the pleasure of djing a set b4 a show of theirs--Esther n crew kill it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm coelacanth∅:

Avatar 1:38pm Ursula1000:

jinks u owe me a coke
Avatar 1:38pm Esther Crow:

Thanks Alex!!!! I hope one day we can do another show!
  1:39pm Eric Kilkenny:

@Esther! Nice yeh I wanna check yer band out fer sure!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm Rich in Washington:

still looking for a late 70s PBS news feature - possibly Independent Lens - where they did a feature on Devo as if they were a dark emerging cultural phenomenon, with horrified religious Akronites testifying about them as a menace. Not sure if it was satirical, as I was like 10, but it scared me. And then I loved them.
Avatar 1:40pm Ursula1000:

DEVO and Trouser Press mag were my gateways
Avatar 1:41pm StringOFperils:

No it's true. I started acquiring that stuff as it came out, and post-grad intelligent roommates were horrified and truly threatened by emerging punk culture. A real watershed in time. People stopped trusting me.
Avatar 1:41pm Esther Crow:

Wow Rich- crazy! And haha- I have lots of roots in Ohio. Even near Akron. YUCK TO religious fanatics! @Eric and @rich- you can find our page on Facebook. If we ever do another reunion show, that's how to find out about it! we need an IG page...
Avatar 1:43pm solo mon:

Terry Hall is a genius.
  1:43pm Eric Kilkenny:

@Ursula check my profile there is a link to Suzanne Ciani designing sound for a Xenon pinball machine in 1980 really interesting!
Avatar 1:43pm Ursula1000:

love Terry
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm Otis:

I have a vague memory of being at a junior high school dance in San Diego... 80 or 81 dancing to Whip It. In 1982, I bought with my own money (from cutting lawns and babysitting) Oh No on vinyl. I should get more Devo again... did pick up the EZ-Listening Box Set a few years ago with the swizzle stick.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm Rich in Washington:

Thanks, Esther! I will check that out for sure!
Avatar 1:43pm Ursula1000:

will do Eric :)
  1:44pm Eric Kilkenny:

super early sampling tech in late 70s/80s pinball machines. These little sound chips that store 48k samples :)
  1:44pm Eric Kilkenny:

So they'd typically stick about 8 of these chips in and they can trigger the sounds plus pitch up/down - gawd I'm nerd lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm Rich in Washington:

Yeah, I was a Devo freak and Whip It sort of made everyone else aware of them. That's when people would yell DEVO! at you if you didn't have big flared jeans or a feathered hair helmet or listen to shit like Van Halen or Zeppelin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm coelacanth∅:

someone on wnew fm played satisfaction a few times, and i hadn't *quite* given up on the 'stones yet so i didn't embrace it...but i didn't hate it.
then came the snl appearance, which happened to coincide with a party in a house jammed with jocks and popular kids. my friends and i physically stopped them from turning it off.
then i bought the record and sealed my fate of never being accepted by the popular kids.
Avatar 1:45pm solo mon:

I got sent to the principals office because I was chanting the lyrics to “Speed Racer” on the playground.

Avatar 1:45pm Mr Fab:

Just coming up for air after a ca-RAY-zee work morn. Thanks for keeping me happy and sane, U1k!
  1:46pm Eric Kilkenny:

@solo I got in trouble for getting coffee. They tried to expel me but ended up banning me from football games my senior year in highschool lol I hate football hah
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm Rich in Washington:

Well, there's that 'I'm a Barbie Doll...' line, solo...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm Otis:

I liked Zep, Van Halen and Devo growing up. All of it and Fat Boys too. Never picked a side, seemed so silly.
Avatar 1:46pm Esther Crow:

haha @rich I also love(d) Van Halen and led Zep shhhhh. Alex- I love this track! don't know it! Paris Angels....
Avatar 1:46pm Ursula1000:

Always Mr Fab!
Avatar 1:47pm Esther Crow:

yes, @otis! I am all over the map and sometimes my punk friends actually bully me. F that Sh*t!
  1:47pm Eric Kilkenny:

@otis totally same here every single one of those groups were early record purchases for me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm Otis:

Should say, still like it all. Well, maybe metal bands like Gram Reaper are not holding up so well as they did in '84.
Avatar 1:47pm Ursula1000:

Esther--check these guys out--Manchester based indie pop---kinda slept on---luv 'em
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm Rich in Washington:

I lived in a hicktown. Heavily polarized hillbilly morons. I liked stuff like Pink Floyd and what would later be called Prog Rock and then New Wave, Punk, then weirdo shit I would hear on late night community radio.
Avatar 1:48pm Esther Crow:

Alex ahhhhhhh loooooove the Manchester stuff
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm Otis:

I got so much flack growing up for liking all sides. When you like Devo and ELO folks will tease. But for al that flack, I had something those fools did not, thanks to Bob.. Slack!
Avatar 1:49pm Ursula1000:

and this album right here....ooohweeee!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm ARB:

Funny, I was just remembering that 90s Speed Racer porn remix last week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Otis:

I bet it's so different Rich to be out of the city. Always grew up in heavy populated cities and suburbs.
Avatar 1:49pm Esther Crow:

omg Alex....did you read my mind??? KINKY AFRO has been playing in my head on repeat ALL WEEK. whoaaaahhhh
Avatar 1:49pm Mr Fab:

I have no idea why, but apparently I saved the cassette insert card of "New Traditionalists" that I bought back when it came out. Who knows what happened to the tape. i found it in a box of old stuff in my garage last year, and just days ago, I put it in a picture frame I found for free. Sitting on a bookshelf now, to puzzle and amuse anyone in my bar area.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Otis:

Esther.. yea, rock on!
  1:50pm Eric Kilkenny:

@Otis the guy who pumps my gas is a subgenius and he always says praise bob everytime I fill up
Avatar 1:51pm Esther Crow:

yeah, @otis- same. I grew up in NYC and me and all my friends had very diverse taste. feel very lucky. went to a small school which was also very diverse.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm Otis:

Ha, the gas pumper must have slack. Now I have the gas station scene from The Jerk stuck in my noggin'
  1:52pm Eric Kilkenny:

I highly recommend putting a bob sticker on your car next to the wfmu one - you'll meet some interesting folks
Avatar 1:52pm Mr Fab:

Eric, there are still gas stations that pump your gas for you?! Where do you live, Mayberry?
Avatar 1:52pm Ursula1000:

Brother Cleve from Combustible Edison married married MArissa and I and he's ordained via....the Church of the Subgenius!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Rich in Washington:

I mailed away for the Devo Muzak cassette, not even knowing what 'Muzak' meant at that point. The tape was really cheap and self-destructed in a couple of weeks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Otis:

Esther, so hard to not be diverse when living in the city. Turned on to so much when we were all growing up and the 80s were a crazy hotbed of styles from hip hop to rock to new wave and sure, polka too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm coelacanth∅:

right on Otis. in our school if you mattered at all you liked either zep and corresponding groups, or you liked the 'dead, etc.
by 10th grade i started liking the 'dead (and always liked the Allmans; though hated the southern rock bands the popular kids liked) so straddling the line
then confounded everyone with punkrock and Brian Eno
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Rich in Washington:

I have WFMU stickers all over my car! The last time I had a Bobshead on my car, someone tried to peel it off and ripped it for some reason.

Avatar 1:54pm Ursula1000:

haha thought of them as a good appetizer to Primal!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm Otis:

Eno and the Dead. Still love both. Right on indeed Coel. It was so very true for Zep and there was always the Zep vs Sabbath thing too. Can't I like both, sure I can and Floyd too. Still do.
  1:54pm Eric Kilkenny:

@Ursula Does Z know she was born a subgenius? Have you told her about her about Bob yet? :D
Avatar 1:54pm solo mon:

People always ask about my wfmu sticker. It’s always very strange and they look v suspicious when I say it’s a radio station...
Avatar 1:54pm Esther Crow:

@otis-- too true. I heard it ALL on the street...nothing beats 80's hip hop <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm Otis:

I had a Bob and WFMU sticker on my Jeep Cherokee 95 box jalopy, last car. Have not had a vehicle in 13 years now living in Montreal. One day again for sure. Still in my mode of public transport to walking about.

I have one huge Bobshead decal I got with my ordainment but I am not sure where to put it so the rear windshield wiper fluid squirter doesn't wreck it.

@Otis that's funny because I have Jeep Cherokee

Good vehicles. I had the 95 model in black before they went SUV. Drove it up here to Canada but the import fees were higher than the blue book value so I had it junked. Had a good life for sure.

Ha, coel! ELO certainly did switch up after New World. Hello DISCOvery. God, I love it. Van Halen too. But not VH II with Hagar, I have my limits.
