Heya Joe and lonely surfers.
Avatar 12:02pm dgp1138:

Well, this song hit at the right moment.
Avatar 12:02pm Joe B:

greetings all, thanks for being here!
  12:02pm Rick A:

It's hard to be a lonely surfer, but one must face the task with strength and purity of heart.
  12:02pm KWilde:

Great start Joe B!
  12:02pm Andres:

Hey, Joe! Afternoon, all! The idea of a lonely surfer brings a tear to my eye. But this one is purty.
Avatar 12:02pm Joe B:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm Handy Haversack:

Joe and all the Montebanks! Rock status: Ready!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Odd to actually hear this track & not just have it utilized by any number of DJs...
  12:03pm Rick A:

Jack Nitzsche was a musical genius though a sad life, I guess, great first track, Joe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm northguineahills:

Actually around for Joe B!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Rich in Bay Ridge:

I love that Double Shot bassline.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm Handy Haversack:

Yo, Phillippe!

Congrats, Joe! I have to say: even though one still takes precautions and wears a mask and is cool about everything, the relief of getting that second shot in and set is really powerful. I feel a lot less both under fire and like a loaded gun!
Avatar 12:13pm Joe B:

i hear ya handy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

This Turtles is like in 1965 they've already grokked the GarageRawk mode of like CountFive & perfectly pastiched it. Kinda meta.
  12:14pm Andres:

Let's hope this set is motivating the laggards!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Handy Haversack:

Is there no band ever called the Antibodies? Not played on WFMU in the playlist era, at least.
  12:16pm egould310:

That Vaccines tune was fire.
  12:16pm Mark in Toronto:

That Turtles song sounds exactly like a song off the 1st or 2nd Pebbles series, yet it's credited as being written by Howard Kaylan. What is the song?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm medson:

Hola Joe B and all. Let’s rock.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Carmichael:

No band called mRNA?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Rich in Bay Ridge:

Loving this, Joe! Celebrating my second shot this morning with a little 3CM!!
  12:27pm Mark in Toronto:

I think the Bay City Rollers need a complete re-evaluation. These are all really good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm myron feld:

"R&R Love Letter" is one of the best covers ever. Say, Joe B, is "Yesterday's Heroes" coming up?
Avatar 12:30pm Joe B:

funny to see how the bay city rollers still trigger the 'disco sucks' crowd
Avatar 12:30pm Joe B:

i don't even count it as a cover as the original is pretty much irrelevant
Avatar 12:30pm Hubig Pie:

I had them pegged as a band from N. California like Sausalito
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm Krys O.:

Cool beans, Sissophonic Cheryl!
Avatar 12:31pm Joe B:

@mark - be careful - their management went for the easy listening audience soon after so tread slowly!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm Gaylord Fields:

Hi, Joe! Bay City Rollers doing Burt Bacharach!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm Krys O.:

I was today year's old when I discovered RnRLL was a cover and I covered it almost 30 years ago myself. LOL!
  12:31pm Mark in Toronto:

Except this one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm Handy Haversack:

Congrats, Sissophonic Cheryl!
Swag For Life Member 12:32pm Bruce S.:

i think i was too old for the bay city rollers and i think i still am
Avatar 12:32pm Tank Top:

Meat Loaf and Bay City Rollers kind of morning on WFMU
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Devalued as teenybop pop - ironically it's the ballad that's the least of these...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Candy-O'67:

I agree with both of your last statements, Mark in Toronto!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Krys O.:

Ah, the Drifters....
  12:33pm Mark in Toronto:

@Joe - Always sneered at the hype and hoopla, but always thought those early singles were catchy.
  12:34pm Cookman:

Bravo on your LFC set!!! Always thought they were a great glam rock band
  12:34pm Mark in Toronto:

Thanks Candy-O
Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Bruce S.:

Swag For Life Member 12:37pm Bruce S.:

i dont want to spoil the party though
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm PortsmouthJay:

Get the shot, let's gooooo!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Great gittar tones & goes along with most mid1970s Rawk ! Solid GlamStomp in the context of simple pop hooks. Not too challenging really.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm McGroovey:

I just wrote words for a whole vaccination song in my head while waiting in line in the car on South Kearney for my second dose.

Now I've gotta go home and do the music.
Avatar 12:42pm Jack:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm dave wuz here:

humpty dance was EVERYWHERE in 90-1
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Vaccines are a little counter-intuitive - as the object is to get your immune system going by introducing a sort of invasive thing that's less dangerous than a deadly contagion !
But where the line is - what they're calling Theories don't even rise to the level of Hypothesis. You can have your own opinions - but you can't make your own facts.
& the thing about a contagion is - it ain't just about you chumboy. It's all of us.
...I hears Hendrix !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm McGroovey:

Since I was listening to the Rollers set while I was thinking up the words, I suppose the music will be on the bouncy pop side. "Vaccine Envy".
Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Bruce S.:

whats going on with william berger is he still around
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Krys O.:

DJ Monica shared some touching remembrances about Shock G on Instagram.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm McGroovey:

Avatar 12:45pm Joe B:

@dave - it sure was. always love it when once in a while something cool becomes huge!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Lewis:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm paddy in matawan:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm Matt Fiveash:

Didn't know about the Shock G re-write! I've always loved how LL sounds increasingly psychotic/fierce as this song moves along
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Yeah - if yer funny @ all - strong tendency to not be taken seriously for your other qualities. & then ChuckBerry has his biggest hit by far with DingaLing... Maybe that has actually gotten better.

Avatar 1:15pm PKNY:

Hmmm, not sure about Shock G co-writing of "Mama Said Knock You Out", no official writing credits on the label (only LL and Marley Marl).

Maybe that's from the Sly and the Family Stone drum sample with the tell-tale hit used in "Humpty Dance", which many other records sampled later on, including "Mama Said Knock You Out".

  2:34pm Rick A:

The Tina Turner documentary is good though it spends a lot of time on her trauma and maybe not enough time on her creativity. I would have liked to have seen a segment on her performance in Tommy, what was it like to work with eccentric filmmaker Ken Russell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm Handy Haversack:

Happy bday again, Todd! Hope it was a blast (as much as such a think is possible without Bagpipe). Really looking forward to RT on Sat.!

Avatar 2:40pm John L:

One of my favorite Richard Thompson songs is Drowned Dog Black Night, form the first French Frith Kaiser Thompson albums. That album tends to get overlooked; it's a little more out there than some of RTs other records.
  2:42pm Rick A:

I saw Richard Thompson in Prospect Park a few years back. It was pouring down rain and many people left though we hung in there, happily, hearing him perform "1952 Vincent Black Lightning" which the Del McCoury Band has made famous to a whole new audience.
  2:42pm whoopsie:
