Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:02am Diana in Hungary:

Good morning!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:03am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning Ruth, 12539, TheoC, Sylvia, duke, Niall and Diana! ...and remember, we don't kick out the jams here on Saturday morning; we spread lightly on seven grain toast...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:03am Niall:

It’s windy, but mild, I have put my name on a waiting list for Shrutibox that spans from C2 to C4, and everything’s coming up Millhouse.
Avatar 6:04am Sem:

Hello, Jeffrey and Ruth itb, and shrunken planet ears all over the globe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04am Niall:

Good to hear you today, Jeffrey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04am Niall:

Ooh, Puremagnetik. Always a reliable source of goodness.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning Sem!
@Niall: did you actually order a shruti box, or is that a reference to some website? Or....?
  6:08am Kpx:

I've returned this Saturday morning for another 3-hour visit of shrunken planet music. Morning Jeffrey, Ruth and planeteers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning Kpx!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12am Niall:

Jeffrey - aye, one to accompany the one I already have. But it won’t be ready for some time. I love the things; they’re my favorite oscillator ;)
  6:13am Andy:

A piece of jammy seven-grain toast floating gently through the cosmic void. Good morning everyone!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning Andy!
@Niall: okay, got ya. I do love the sounds of shruti and harmonium...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:19am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning clarke! Hope we don't end up stranded, like those on the Minnow!
  6:20am clarke:

the weather started getting rough!!
mornin' sir!! once again, i am on the wrong end f the evening - but, woke up in the middle of nacht with creative ideas.
  6:21am clarke:

here in new orleans, we are apparently in some kind of monsoon season.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21am Jeffrey Davison:

@clarke: creative is good...glad you got up to follow the muse.
  6:22am clarke:

nice to have that luxury at present. we shall see if "normalcy" returneth.
  6:26am clarke:

always appreciate your show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27am Jeffrey Davison:

In 1996, during the big blizzard, which dropped something like 26 inches of snow, there were four DJs stuck at the station for the weekend. We couldn't go anywhere, and no one could get to us. Driving was forbidden for a couple of days. We took turns doing shows, and I remember being free to play long tracks of 30 and 40 minutes and longer. It was great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28am Jeffrey Davison:

@clarke: thanks!
  6:28am clarke:

the track with the rain in it was particularly poignant and prescient.
  6:29am clarke:

wow, that WAS very SS Minnow'ish!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:31am Andrew in Toronto:

Good morning Jeffrey and all other PLaneteers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:32am Andrew in Toronto:

Happy Saturday Ruth!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:32am Andrew in Toronto:

Hi there Niall and Sem.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34am Niall:

Heya, Andrew!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning Andrew!
@clarke: yes, indeed...and we had just enough food on hand, as no deliveries were even possible either...
  6:34am TheoC in Sharon CT:

Oh! The 96 snow storms! My street in Brooklyn was buried... we went to Manhattan because the L train was running... it was beautiful
  6:34am clarke:

perhaps you are familiar with the Nada Surf track: Blizzard Of '77? (wouldn't be too far out of your wheelhouse)
Swag For Life Member 6:37am 12539:

(I just noticed the golden O photo, which I greatly admire.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37am Jeffrey Davison:

@TheoC: it was memorable, that's for sure. I drove to FMU mid-Friday afternoon, trying to be ahead of the storm, and just made it there, barely. The snow was coming down fast and furious.
@clarke: I don't know it...will check...thanks!
  6:39am clarke:

lucky you brought sustenance!!
  6:42am clarke:

as my dad used to say: you can't eat records!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48am Jeffrey Davison:

@clarke: Correct. I have verified that. I knew there was a chance that I'd be stuck at the station, (at that time in East Orange), and brought extra food, but I didn't figure I'd be there the whole weekend. One silver lining: I was working for these knuckleheads in Queens, and they asked the employees to come in and shovel their sidewalk. As I said, it was illegal to drive a non-emergency vehicle across Manhattan that weekend, so I got out of that one.
@12539: that's a photo of the window at a club in Williamsburg called Muchmore's, which is no longer in business.
  6:50am clarke:

adventures in hi-fi
Swag For Life Member 6:52am jeremyo:

Morning all. Reading family letters from Prague on the brink of war, these sounds are the right accompaniment. That Dawn Looming track was something else...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:53am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning jeremyo! Agreed about the Dawn Looming...and that's the only track released thus far from an album to be released in a few days.
  6:54am clarke:

as dawn IS looming, i shall try to listen and rest a bit.. thanks for the sounds!
Swag For Life Member 6:55am jeremyo:

Thanks for the tip Jeffrey, I will certainly keep an eye out for that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:02am Jeffrey Davison:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28am Andrew in Toronto:

How`s it going HyperDose?
  7:28am Ted in Montclair:

Jeffrey, during the blizzard of 96, was the FMU studio at Uppsala College? Side note: I wonder what’s there now, as the college has long been defunct.
Avatar 7:29am PaGo:

WFMU never fails to amaze me.
I listen to most shows via the archives but sometimes I jump in to whatever is live, mostly not knowing what I'm going to get. Once again, another show I have to 'bookmark'. Great stuff!
Avatar 7:31am TDK60:

Good morning Andrew in Toronto.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31am Will the Sound Guy:

Good morning Jeffery, Ruth, and all the rest... some good twinkly sounds to slowly re-animate myself into a productive Saturday.

Avatar 7:33am Bas NL:

Good morning Jeffrey, Ruth and all!
Avatar 7:36am HyperDose:

Good morning, Andrew. Pretty great actually. The past month was a bit rough with a lot of that uncertainty we've all been feeling. Things are finally starting to come together, so I can't complain. Hope you're well!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning PaGo! Thank you, and welcome...
Good morning Will the Sound Guy, and thanks!
@Ted: yes, we were at Upsala College at the time. We moved to JC in 1998. My memory isn't good, but I believe that a lot of the campus buildings were demolished and residential buildings were going to be built there. I just checked online and it appears that the property was divided in half, and only one half contains new housing. The other half may still be abandoned buildings. Read more here:
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning Avrilinmay and Bas NL!

Good morning Malcolm, and thanks!
Good morning lunarleigh! xxoo
  7:42am Gaston Musella:

Many years ago, I struggled with the antenna on my radio to get to 91.1. Today, it is a pleasure to simply turn on the pc and tune WFMU via a shortcut on my desktop. And it is still the most amazing radio station ever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning Gaston, and thanks for the kind words! I agree with you. I've looked around, and there are some really fine radio stations in the world but only one WFMU.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:44am Jeffrey Davison:

@Will: whoa!
  7:44am Chris W.:

Good morning! The planet is spacey this morning.
Avatar 7:45am Toutevoix:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning, Chris W, and yes, the Space Commander had to take off today, so the Space Cadet is in charge!
Good morning Toutevoix!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51am Jeffrey Davison:

@Ted in Montclair: from Google maps, it appears that our old building at 580 Springdale Avenue was renovated and is once again a house.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51am Roger:

Good morning Jeffery, great set!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning Roger, and thanks!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning SmokinJ, and thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:02am dale:

morning. nice music to ease into the day with.
Avatar 8:04am DirktheDoorman:

thank you once again wfmu for your unsolicited comments on politics and your carbon copy takes on public health that could be read off of a CNN show. To think that I actually listened to fmu for FUN at one time in my life. now everyone is a prognosticator
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:04am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning dale, and thanks!
  8:05am Chris W.:

Bye, Dirk!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:08am melinda:

Morning all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09am Doug in JC:

Good morning
  8:09am Ted in Montclair:

What an informative and well-written piece on the sad fate of Upsala College. Thanx Jeffrey. I like reading about, and sometimes visiting, abandoned places. Good pandemic time-wasting. For example, there’s an abandoned airfield in East Hanover, about a half-hour from my house. Overgrown runway, collapsed building. Amazing.
Avatar 8:10am HyperDose:

Morning Doug & Melinda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:11am Doug in JC:

@Ted in Montclair I know that one well. I think we're going hiking in the swamp behind it today

Good morning Hyperdose! How's the house hunt going?
Avatar 8:14am TDK60:

I had my two vaccine shots; may need a booster someday. Confusing time as more and more people are getting shots but the virus is surging in many places. I'm still masking up. "Mathked" to be onomatopoeic. Hee.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:15am queems:

good morning all
  8:15am Cooh John:

Good morning Jeffery, Ruth, Sem, and planeteers. My schedule is off but made it for the end.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16am Doug in JC:

Morning queems
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:17am queems:

good morning @doug!
Avatar 8:17am TDK60:

Queems! Did you choose a feline friend?
Avatar 8:17am HyperDose:

@Doug That's on hold for now while I wait to get the 2nd jab. My neighbor informed me the kids won't be back until the fall. So that buys me quite a bit of time to scope out more places. :)
@queems Those snake earrings turned out super good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:18am queems:

@tdk60 i think so!! i'm going back on monday to see them again- i might end up with more than one, but there is a particular one that i have in mind who came from a hoarder house with 39 OTHER CATS
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning Dirk, Chris W, melinda and Doug in JC!
@Dirk: this entire show is unsolicited, if you will. Two minutes out of 3 hours to remind people that the virus is still a grave threat is not too much, I don't think, and I have not mentioned it much in the last couple of months, with the vaccine rolling out. I specifically tried, in my comments, to avoid prognosticating, but I do follow the developments on various sources. Every radio station is actually required to provide PSAs and such, and I have often chosen to speak about this issue. My comments are not always the most eloquent, but there ya go.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19am queems:

thanks @hyperdose!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning queems and Cooh John!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:21am Doug in JC:

@queems I think two is a good idea :) We were up to four once.
Swag For Life Member 8:21am Slamtonio:

Great show! Appreciate the music and the commentary. Thank you Ruth and Jeffrey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:21am Will the Sound Guy:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:22am queems:

@jeffrey good morning! @doug there are two that i have in mind! what i might end up doing is starting with one, and going back for another once the first is settled. the hoarder cats have all had a hard life
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning Slamtonio and thanks!
Thanks Will the Sound Guy!
(Now...if only I were more sound...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25am Strandlund:

Good Morning Jeffrey...very well said!! I get my second dose of Moderna at the end of the month.
  8:26am Ted in Montclair:

@Doug in JC. It’s cool you know that airfield. If any planes land while you’re there, do not get on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27am spodiodi:

good morning, Jeffery Davison, Ruth and everyone!
Jeffrey Davison @8:19 -- so right, and too kind. ✌️
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27am Will the Sound Guy:

Queems, you're doing a great thing. All creatures deserve a home... That's crazy that the house had 39 cats... too many, we have 1 and sometimes thats a lot.

We got you Jeffrey!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning Strandlund and thanks!
Good morning spodiodi, and thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30am queems:

@will yes!! i agree. i've never had the opportunity to choose a cat before (all of my previous cats have just showed up at my house) and making a choice has proven to be very difficult
Avatar 8:32am HyperDose:

Isn't it the best when an animal in need finds their way to you? Nothing else in life has brought me more joy. ^_^
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33am queems:

@hyperdose yes!! and in a way, it sort of happened in this case too. the cat i was originally going to see was already adopted by the time i got there, and they just happened to show me this one who i would have passed over otherwise
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34am dale:

dirk - better than the non stop cars for kids jingle on a.m. radio.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35am Will the Sound Guy:

@dale, now i have the number in my head... lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35am Jeffrey Davison:

@dale: that's a pretty low bar, but I'm glad to be clear of it! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:39am Andrew in Toronto:

@HyperDose I`m hanging in there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:39am Diana in Hungary:

I appreciated your comments too, Jeffrey. Here in Hungary the situation is still rough. About a third of the country's population has received a vaccine, I think, but there's still a long way to go and a great restlessness to get back to normal life (with school, events, travel, etc.). The vaccines can help us get there sooner, given all the caveats and precautions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:40am Doug in JC:

@Ted in Montclair I don't know... a ghost plane sounds like a good choice right now
Avatar 8:40am HyperDose:

@queems I had a similar situation. My darling son was actually my second choice (no one can ever know!). But turns out he's the one I needed to adopt. PetFinder said he was 2mo old, but he was actually there for almost a year. Apparently he had a "cold" which I could tell was an upper respiratory infection the second I picked him up. Took a while for him to kick the infection, but once he did he's been as happy and full of energy as any cat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:44am Jeffrey Davison:

@Diana: Thank you. As I said, I do check into this subject frequently, and have read a lot about covid, the vaccines etc, in addition to listening a lot to WNYC. There is a more relaxed attitude in NYC, for sure, and part of me welcomes that, certainly, after this terrible year. I do also know that we have also been hit hard following spikes in Europe, and I have serious concerns about this. I know people who live in Europe, and many in Canada, and the Canadian situation is certainly having a profound effect on my plans to move there anytime soon.
  8:46am Dennis Diken:

Good morning Jeffrey & all, been quietly diggin’ as the coffee slowly does its thing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47am dale:

i think the more relaxed attitude in ny is because the guv and mayor were pummeled in the press. as soon as cuomo was accused of funny business restrictions started to ease and the age eligibility for the vaccine started dropping.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48am queems:

@hyperdose exactly!! i'm glad he is healthy and happy now! my cat only passed away 2 months ago, and i was planning on waiting a while to adopt another. but i'm going to adopt one anyway, it might as well be now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:49am Jeffrey Davison:

Good morning Dennis and glad you're enjoying the show!

Still I appreciated for sure you took the time and patience to answer to Dirk and moderate,
thanks for freeing the space at the most and keeping goin on ( over reacting is one thing, but I personally appreciate that one can at least give a different point of view if it is a space for words, & for sure there must be much better ways to do it
constructively I mean and care for words )
Dirk"thedoorman" might stay on the doorstep if he was banned... maybe the comments he had where not at all about politics or vax or the catastrophy but on his desire of music ))) & his frustration about escaping in art and soundwaves then he might have been surprised getting back to reality and just over reacted.
I am sorry we globaly have to deal with so much tension in those days, and regarding myself under lockdown ( I read a lot and doesn't feel legitimate to bring here my opinion ) but the music and the mood & discoveries on wfmu helps me get thru in a kind of way!
Don't know, don't want to bother here so I go on listening

I pledged also for that, thanks again keep on freeing art
Take care there
