Ready for this!
Avatar 9:02pm vj pussycat:

happy tuesday to ira, his producer, supporting crew, all who chat and all who don't
Avatar 9:02pm TDK60:

Good evening everybody. I said "Good evening everybody." (Sorry.)
  9:03pm Owen:

ready for another great show!
  9:04pm BH:

good evening (or is it night?)
Swag For Life Member 9:05pm Ira:

Sitting at the laptop, here to chitchat with everybody. Actually pre-recorded this episode yesterday. Great to have you here this evening and/or night.
  9:05pm Rick G:

Cheers Ira and producer and all. Prepped for the show by watching a bit of Odd Couple, ha.
  9:06pm BH:

as long as you didn't refer to Johnson & Johnson in the present tense, not much changed between yesterday and today
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07pm WR:

Romance? I'm confused.
Swag For Life Member 9:07pm Ira:

Rick G: Aristophanes!
BH: I can't remember . . . might acknowledge being double vaccinated, which rules out J&J.
Swag For Life Member 9:07pm Ira:

WR: perhaps.
Avatar 9:08pm fm Mike:

That Special Girl song is something special! :D
  9:09pm BH:

I'm half-way through Pfizer, but the whole thing that happened today with J&J complicates things for some people
  9:10pm Owen:

halfway through pfizer here too! 9 days till my next shot, can't wait
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10pm DonJuanTijuana:

Hey Ira & gang! Man you blew my mind last week & broadened my musical horizons last week by plaing The Michael Flower Band. I played last weeks archive show a ton!

Evenning Ira and company!
Avatar 9:10pm vj pussycat:

does this mean l the back announcements are prerecorded as well?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Greetings, Ira and pals. Michele opened her show with this same Astute Palate track. It's good.
Swag For Life Member 9:13pm Ira:

vjp: yup, got in the wayback machine and recorded the whole thing in real time.

DonJuanTijuana: If you haven't already, you've got to hear the Clandestine Quartet: Michael Flower, Chris Corsano, and Alan & Sir Richard Bishop.
  9:14pm Tim in NC:

wow this is an awesome cut. for this alone this Phils fan will allow your Mets the doubleheader sweep tonight. if it happens, it happens
Avatar 9:15pm TDK60:

I thought-bubbled Television for a sec.
Swag For Life Member 9:15pm Ira:

Tim in NC: so long as everybody touches home plate. Hey, that's not you at CitiField wearing the Phanatic hat, is it???
  9:15pm Rick G:

Ira: watching in order and still in Season 2 (Where’s Grandpa?)
Swag For Life Member 9:17pm Ira:

Rick G: I was shocked recently to discover just how few episodes Albert Brooks appears in. I thought "now thinking" was a running gag.
Avatar 9:17pm vj pussycat:

that's great ira because it frees you up to chat more with us about your curation and misc. am i right
Swag For Life Member 9:18pm Ira:

I am anti-curation and pro-misc.

For some listeners this could be early morning..
Avatar 9:19pm vj pussycat:

got it!
  9:20pm Rick G:

He didn’t last too long doing the Saturday Night Live films, either. They pivoted you Gary Weis by season 2 (another show I’m watching in order). Clearly a slacker.

Swag For Life Member 9:25pm Ira:

Yeah, life in a giant apartment in Manhattan, with a job as a sportswriter, guest appearances on Password and Let's Make a Deal . . . it's a cautionary tale.
  9:25pm Michael Shore:

@jt: Aristophanes!!!
  9:27pm BH:

Ha I knew that was you Max!
Swag For Life Member 9:33pm Ira:

Happy birthday, Jack Casady! I don't watch a ton of web concerts, but I loved the Hot Tuna show I saw.
  9:34pm Tim in NC:

lol, and no not me in the Phanatic hat. haven't been to Citi in a couple of years but some memorable trips- I remember in I think 2017 having tickets for Mets/Phillies during opening week, only for it to be snowed out. they didn't even have so much as a snow delay in Minneapolis earlier today
  9:34pm Max:

I felt the need to be clear
  9:34pm georgia:

Maybe you should consider that, Todd!

Avatar 9:37pm jt:

"Sooner or Later" by The Grass Roots was my favorite song in kindergarden, I had a crush on Kim ...Kim ..something...
  9:37pm BH:

huge Ohtani HR in the game i'm watching. Congrats to the kid who caught the ball on making it on TV in Japan
Swag For Life Member 9:37pm Ira:

During the first game today, they said that there's a 70% chance of snow in Colorado on Friday when the Mets will be there. The volume at Citi Field drives me crazy, because the music they're playing isn't 1/13th as good as the songs Georgia's choosing.
  9:38pm MB:

Hey Ira and Georgia!

Ohtani is the ONE to watch.. super-human, that guy.
  9:41pm georgia:

Thanks Ken!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42pm herb.nyc:

Spk’ng of nyt obits, I just read April 4’s Malcolm Cecil, 84yo. He created a huge synthesizer and released a record in 1971. His bandmate said, of one song, “I’m not even sure it’s music”. Haha.
  9:42pm Tim in NC:

I'll be thinking about Ohtani's one game from last week for a long time. shit gives me the chills
Avatar 9:43pm vj pussycat:

Swag For Life Member 9:47pm Ira:

No, Libby's Mom, I'm pretty cut off from the web concert world. I was talking about one a year ago.
  9:47pm MB:

Georgia, have you ever played any music your Dad has ever recorded?
  9:48pm Patrick:

Hey IRA if the Mets want noise so bad why don’t they just bring back the airplane noise they had at SHEA.
  9:48pm Lou v:

That Javy ball woulda been a great souvenir!
  9:49pm georgia:

MB--not sure what you mean? From the films?
Swag For Life Member 9:49pm Ira:

I'm with you, Patrick. Airplanes and Jane Jarvis (or Josh Kantor)--that's all you need.

It’s Roy Loney’s birthday too
  9:51pm georgia:

Happy birthday to Roy! would have been 75.

So far, Georgia's taste runs parallel to my single -speaker A.M. transistor radio! Good times.
  9:52pm MB:

Yes, I guess, was he ever in a band that made a record?
Swag For Life Member 9:52pm Ira:

If only my transistor radio ever played the Flamin' Groovies . . .

We are loving this set in Harbor Country tonight!
  9:58pm McGroovey:

My is jazzfan Dad was nuts for Maria Muldaur's seventies pop music, and he hated most modern pop music.
  9:58pm Tim in NC:

y'all could start to open it up here, I'd imagine the plan was just to leave Nola in for all 7 after how the first game ended. but like I said earlier, it's fair play. I mean look at the Nats and Braves scores
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58pm chresti:

Very nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59pm Matt Fiveash:

Thanx Georgia for helping bring the Ira the K show into our homes with all the off-camera wrangling over this past year! Thx also for this killer set.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08pm Gaylord Fields:

Ira, now that you've perfected doing this show with one eye on Perry Mason, that skill will go for naught.
Avatar 10:08pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

I don't think I've heard these two gems back to back since Scott Muni was doing "Things From Britain" on WNEW-FM.
  10:09pm georgia:

I must've learned from the master, Todd
  10:09pm e from eo:

So late joining- will catch up (on the past) for now. Hi!!
Swag For Life Member 10:11pm Ira:

Gaylord Fields, taking full advantage of tonight's pre-recorded installment, we do have the Mets game on (muted). But I have enough problems doing a live show that I have never dared averting my eyes, even for the dashing Hamilton Burger.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm Chop Scott:

Fantastic set selections Georgia!
  10:12pm PatrickMC:

"Things From England" !
muttered in a gravelly baritone
Swag For Life Member 10:12pm Ira:

Todd, so long as Georgia learned the right things from Scott Muni. If she asks me to play "Music" by John Miles, we will have a problem.

Happy Tuesday from chilly Denver.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14pm Franco Twinkie:

Good evening Ira.
Avatar 10:14pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

Ira- I've never recovered from my disappointment when he would play Greenslade instead of Slade.
  10:14pm Tim in NC:

oh man. one of my very favorite Floyd songs
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14pm Gaylord Fields:

Georgia is counting on you not mixing up Mets and Muni by announcing "It's Floyd! And it's Cliff!"
  10:14pm engineer mike c:

Earlier in the day Michele played Georgia singing a Faces song. And now Georgia is playing the Faces. It’s all so meta...
Avatar 10:14pm John L:

After a Faces show at the Nassau Coliseum my older brother thought it would be a good idea foir us to try and sneak backstage. We got caught, of course. Not the most compelling story, but years later I read an article stating that was the night Ronnie Lane quit the band. They were hardly even speaking to each other. Glad we didn't make it all the way. Oooh...music is my first love, music is my last, music from the future, music from the past....
  10:15pm absmiami:

nice - I hear some influence - the producer done took over ... ... Sandy anytime ...
Avatar 10:15pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@John L: Maybe you could have talked Ronnie into staying!

I think I know this Status Quo song as a cover by...I don't recall who. Wikipedia says Persephone's Bees covered it, but I don't think that's it.

I haven't really listened to Status Quo beyond the hit (hits?).

Swag For Life Member 10:27pm Somm Ben:

Great set, it just provided the soundtrack for a bike ride past WFMU as I heard the news of DJs getting back to into the station. We're turning the corner!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28pm leshwatt:

Time for a nice refreshing drink of undiluted water !
  10:28pm Tom E:

Everything I’ve heard from this Silver Synthetic LP is a winner.
  10:30pm Andres:

Evening, all! I saw Grant Hart in 2005 in Nelson, BC. Poorly promoted Sunday night show. Short solo set for the ten of us that showed up but it was great. Club owner was not happy with turnout and was turning the lights off on us as we all sat around talking with him afterwards.
Swag For Life Member 10:30pm Ira:

Franco Twinkie, our band drove all night from Zurich to play open a festival in Belgium. Grant Hart was on the bill, but we went to get some sleep before he went on. Seemed like a wise, probably necessary, decision at the time, but now wishing we had toughed it out.
Avatar 10:34pm John L:

Todd, I found an article about that night. Little 12 year old me would have been so disillusioned to come upon that scene. What could I have said."Say it ain't so, Ron!"justbackdated.blogspot.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm Franco Twinkie:

Ira, the list is long and sad of all the people I could've seen but elected to do something else or just plain forgot. Wow, I just realized that's just like everything else in my life.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm leshwatt:

I had a dream last night but I forgot what it was

I'm envious McGroovey
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52pm melinda:

wow, Al Jardine
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm McGroovey:

You can get a reasonable sense of what Black Flag was like live by poking around on YouTube.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm McGroovey:

'Course you can't get all the covered in hardcore sweat just watching on YouTube.
Swag For Life Member 10:55pm Ira:

I have so many great memories of seeing Black Flag. Their equipment truck got in a wreck on its way to Maxwell's and they did their set on little, borrowed amps. Probably sounded even better (in that room) than their own stuff would've.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56pm McGroovey:

Avatar 10:57pm Joe B:

re Black Flag - anniversary of their last show at Maxwell's just passed - April 10, 1986
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:58pm herb.nyc:

Spk’ng of Skarbø, for those into food scraps, there’s a new drop off site in Manhattan. At Dag Hammarskjold Plaza, 1st Ave and e47th (near the greenmarket). 8-3.30, but I’ll be staffing it from 10-2 during April. I plan on telling scrappers to tune into 7SD and Evan Funk Davies, among many shows.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02pm McGroovey:

I saw them a couple times in Albany. Once was at VFW hall, with Gone and I think DC3, and band from Montreal called... It's slipping my mind, but they were also great, and I ran out and bought their record.

And the other time was probably at the same VFW hall, and it was with ... Maybe Gone also, and that metal band that was on SST.... Saint Vitus, whose eyes no one ever saw because they had long hair and they were looking at the floor and headbanging the whole time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm McGroovey:

Huh. Here's the flyer from the Black Flag/Saint Vitus show. It was Tom Traccolli's Dog, not Gone. hardcoreshowflyers.net...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm chresti:

Keith Morris used to make me lattes at a breakfast place in Silverlake.
Swag For Life Member 11:07pm Ira:

Good story, chresti, but not as good as when I mistakenly read it as "latkes."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08pm chresti:

I don't think they made latkes?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09pm McGroovey:

I may have been at this Black Flag show in 1986, with Painted Willie and Gone. I think my cousin Matt promoted the show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09pm Franco Twinkie:

And I had a show of painting in Echo Park and Keith Morris and Donita Sparks came in, looked around, sniffed and left.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm McGroovey:

The band from Montreal was The Asexuals. Now I can finally sleep.
