Greetings from Green Bay! Sad fact: I came to know "Taxman" from George Harrison's best-of comp in the mid-70s. I was late to the party on "Revolver," believe it or not.
Avatar 🥁 3:04pm SquigY0:

Larry! The best thing to EVER happen on tax day!

@Jeff - I remember that album!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:06pm Brian in UK:

Hey Larry, just been reading this book, here is an audible link to some spoken word samples. There are SO many Beatle books, this is an interesting take. Amazing how much they are still in our consciousness even today. They only recorded for less than eight years.

George Harrision performed his song live in Japan around 1990 and used the ahh ahh Mr Reagan and ahh ahh Mr Bush lyric
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:21pm Funky16Corners:

I read that he had done that over the years.
Avatar 🥁 3:22pm David Shortell:

When "Revolver" came out, Ray Davies critiqued it in a British newspaper. He compared "Taxman" to the theme from the contemporary "Batman" TV series.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:23pm Funky16Corners:

Hey David! I have seen that comparison as well.
Avatar 🥁 3:24pm SquigY0:

nanananana TAXMAN!

Moog1, who is this 'Howard' you speak of? Sounds like some kinda square!

This is SO much fun. Thanks, Larry!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:31pm Funky16Corners:

Hi Tamar!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:32pm Brian in UK:

Larry, guess there could be a whole week at least 24/7 of Beatles cover/style music. And then some.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm Candy-O'67:

Never heard this Score. Diggin' it!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Brian in UK:

Avatar 🥁 3:33pm Erica:

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Funky16Corners:

@Brian - I still want to do a Beatles-soundalike show, less specific than this one
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:34pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Erica!
Avatar 🥁 3:35pm Erica:

I've been here Larry. But thanks anyway for the greeting.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:35pm Funky16Corners:

This one written by the Bee Gees!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:35pm Brian in UK:

Were the Beatles copied most before Sgt Pepper. It was fairly straight forward beat music up till Rubber Soul.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm spodiodi:

kinda sounds like 'em
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:36pm Funky16Corners:

@Brian - They were copies all the way through. I have tons of stuff that imitates their beat era as well as on through the psychedelic stuff
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Brian in UK:

As Paul died in 1966. I wonder what will happen when his lookalike passes on.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:38pm Brian in UK:

Some folks copies Revolution no.9. Who knows why.
Avatar 🥁 3:38pm Erica:

You believe the Paul is dead thing Brian?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Brian in UK:

Erica, ofcourse NOT. But there was so much crap flying around, conspiracy theories abounded.
Avatar 🥁 3:40pm David Shortell:

During the pledge drive, I selected Gaylord's DJ premium: a multinational anthology of Beatles-knockoffs.
  3:40pm CalZone!:

in Brazil, they'll tax your beach!
Avatar 🥁 3:40pm SquigY0:

Speaking of, have the pledge drive prizes been mailed out?

@SquiggY0 - I have no idea, but it seems a bit soon
Avatar 🥁 3:41pm Erica:

I'll say Brian. I don't believe that either.
Avatar 🥁 3:41pm SquigY0:

*thumbs up* first time I've ever participated so I didn't know how it usually works. I'll remain patient!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm listener Rey:

the whole Paul Is Dead thing woulda been huge if they had the internet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm spodiodi:

STIG HAS BEEN DEAD FOR AGES, HONESTLY
Avatar 🥁 3:42pm SquigY0:

I believe Jim Carey did one of them :D
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Funky16Corners:

@SquiggY0 - Especially since the station is still short staffed due to the pandemic
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Brian in UK:

If you believe the election was rigged then Paul wearing no shoes on Abbey Road is but a small step, so to speak!!!
Avatar 🥁 3:43pm SquigY0:

Would've loved to hear Alex Jones' take on the fake Paul. Probably involved gay frogs :D
Avatar 3:44pm Listening Out There:

If you ask me, Blue Things and Blue Cheer should each have done versions of "Am I Blue?"...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm spodiodi:

squigyo @324: lol... btw, nice pooch pic :) this has been on my mind since revrabbit posted a verion of this a couple of days ago external-content.duckduckgo.com...

Avatar 🥁 3:44pm Erica:

Moog1 Radio You mean Sting of the Police or the Stuff from Top Gear UK? Lol
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:45pm Funky16Corners:

I don't want to hear Alex Jones take on ANYTHING
Avatar 🥁 3:45pm SquigY0:

YES spodiodi!! I do actually have a blueberry muffin. Standby i'll change my pic
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm spodiodi:

Blue Things reminds me of Last Train to Clarksville as much as Taxman
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:45pm Funky16Corners:

I guess LSD had made its way to Hays. KS by 1966
  3:47pm Moog1 Radio:

Stig O'Hara called "the quiet one", he was the thinnest of all the Rutles. He never said anything publicly. Even as the "quiet one," he'd not said a word since 1966.
Avatar 🥁 3:47pm Erica:

Moog1 Radio You mean Sting of the Police or the Stig from Top Gear UK? Lol. Sorry. Typo
Avatar 🥁 3:47pm SquigY0:

Blueberry muffin...with teeth!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:48pm Brian in UK:

Was Blueberry Muffin the followup to Cheese & Onions?
Avatar 🥁 3:48pm Erica:

Oh the guy from the Rutles.
Avatar 🥁 3:49pm SquigY0:

Yes. Prequel to Apple Streudal
  3:49pm Moog1 Radio:

Well he is wearing no trousers on the cover of Shabby Road
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:49pm Brian in UK:

The Rutles. A legend in their own lunchtime.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm Alex In Illinois:

I Had this record, that I got from a box of Honeycomb cereal.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:49pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Alex!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:50pm Brian in UK:

Larry, great crate digging for this show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm Alex In Illinois:

It was a cardboard record, that was part of the box, that you had to cut out with scissors. I think there is a web page here on the WFMU site showing records that came from cereal boxes
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Funky16Corners:

@Brian - Thanks!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Funky16Corners:

@Alex - I remember those!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm spodiodi:

looks deliciously cute, SquigY0 XD
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Alex In Illinois:

I happen to have the same first and last name as that conspiracy theorist that was mentioned earlier. I am actually years older than he is, so I had that name first.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Funky16Corners:

I have to thank Cal Zone, Moog 1 and some folks not on the chat for helping in the search for some of these songs. There were a bunch I had on hand that I had to be reminded of.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Alex In Illinois:

I am 5 years older than he is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm spodiodi:

Alex, i'm glad you outlived him
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm listener Rey:

Man, EVERYBODY copped that riff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm spodiodi:

srsly
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:56pm Brian in UK:

I was amazed how popular Peter Noone was in the US, probably bigger than here. Was it his looks?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:57pm Funky16Corners:

As I was discussing with my wife while watching Hermans Hermits on Ed Sullivan, Peter Noone was custom made for teenage girls
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:58pm Brian in UK:

Freddy Garrity was no Peter Noone!!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Funky16Corners:

Him I don't understand at all.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Brian in UK:

This must be very early Sire.
  4:01pm CalZone!:

My jam!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Funky16Corners:

Yes! Thanks Cal!
  4:01pm Moog1 Radio:

Was it confirmed that this is Vinnie Bell?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Funky16Corners:

@Brian - I have some Sire singles from this period
Avatar 🥁 4:02pm Erica:

I went through a Herman's Hermits phase in 2009, after discovering their old movies, which was around the time Michael Jackson died. Bad timing I know.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Funky16Corners:

@Kurt - I do not know
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Brian in UK:

To quote Woody Allen, 'at least it is with someone you love'.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Funky16Corners:

First Sire releases in 1968: www.discogs.com...
Avatar 🥁 4:03pm Erica:

I knew about their music before that though.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:04pm Funky16Corners:

There's a bunch of great Hermans Hermits tunes, esp later on
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:04pm Brian in UK:

Being a Byrds fan from the start, I never liked Bob Johnson production on this album.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:04pm Funky16Corners:

This is my fave Byrds album.
  4:05pm Moog1 Radio:

according to garagehangover.com Vinnie Bell was used as a session guy for that Ox Bow song
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:05pm Funky16Corners:

Mainly due to Clarence White
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:06pm Brian in UK:

Larry, I am still so sad about Clarence's early departure. Same time as GP. This was the best Byrds to see live.
Avatar 🥁 4:13pm David Shortell:

I've never heard much praise for post-Sweethearts Byrds. I'll have to check out Clarence White and Gene Parson's pre-Byrds group Nashville West.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm spodiodi:

Weird Al <3
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Funky16Corners:

Clarence White was, excuse the phrasing, a goddamned genius
Avatar 🥁 4:15pm Erica:

Nice to hear Weird Al on here.

I like Weird Al!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

hi Hopey Sock Monkey!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm spodiodi:

this is my fave The Jam song
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:18pm Funky16Corners:

Mine, too. I'm not a huge Jam fan, which sets me apart from most of my friends.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm spodiodi:

oh man, this hits me hard with the nostalgia... college gf put this on a mix tape for me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

hey, spodiodi! Yeah, this is one of my favorite Jam albums.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:18pm Brian in UK:

You will not find a better moustache than Gene Parsons.
Avatar 4:19pm Vincent The Soul Chef:

I desperately need that album, and All Mod Cons
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

The single version of Start! doesn't have the horns on it if I recall correctly. . .
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm spodiodi:

Brian in UK, i think you're right
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Mike Sin:

If McGuinn discarded the name "Byrds" after "Sweetheart of the Rodeo," and dubbed the band with a new name, the band would be hailed as exceptional. Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde, Ballad of Easy Rider, and Untitled all have transcendent moments. If you listen without tying them to anything previous, they'd be right up there in the same sentence as the Burrito Bros.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Mike!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm Mike Sin:

Am I the only one here taking advantage of the May 17 tax deadline extension? ;)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:22pm Brian in UK:

Mike Sin, agree as previously commented, a wonderful live band, and no Crosby ego!!!
Avatar 🥁 4:22pm David Shortell:

I never saw the Bangles. I did see Annette Zilinskas' subsequent band Blood On the Saddle play in the Scott Hall lecture hall at Rutgers!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:22pm Funky16Corners:

@Mike - You are not the only one.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:23pm Funky16Corners:

I love the early Bangles stuff.
Avatar 🥁 4:23pm SquigY0:

Nope, I like to rip off that band-aid ASAP :P
Avatar 🥁 4:24pm Erica:

I take it this is the 80s portion of the show.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:25pm Funky16Corners:

This record reminds me that it has been at least 38 years since I first saw the Smithereens
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm doctorjazz:

Been listening, enjoying the show, tiki busy to post!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:26pm Funky16Corners:

And probably 35 years since I first met Mike Sin!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:26pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Doc!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Mike Sin:

When I first met Larry, he was "incognito."
Avatar 🥁 4:28pm David Shortell:

Of course you noted the similarity of the drumming on this Smithereens song to that of "Tomorrow Never Knows"!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Funky16Corners:

Yes, indeed!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:30pm Funky16Corners:
