wow that skywalkers track really nailed 60s sound, thought it ws some old garage track - 2010
Avatar 1:07am Mod Mokka Matti:

That Skywalkers track was nice, and I'm really digging this Bruno Leys, as well as the earlier Bridget St. John one.

Avatar 1:09am Mod Mokka Matti:

@Bri: Ugh. Sounds like my days at Uni as a Design major. or when I was freelancing in the exhibit field a few years ago. The coffee was always flowing.

Sorry, a friend from California called me and I was taken away from the carcass for a while. how rude of she! Great set, rich.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19am Mr. Pumpy:

Bri, I found about a dozen demoed (and a few fully realized) tracks today from that project you have heard in the past. I'm so stoked!
  1:19am Bela from Budapest:

Amazing set Rich
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20am Mr. Pumpy:

That guitar bit coming back in is so Grand Funk!
Avatar 1:20am Bri:

Sweet Pumpy!
Avatar 1:20am Mod Mokka Matti:

It's not always good for me, but as someone of predominantly Finnish ancestry, being a coffee addict is sort of a given (My late mother got me started when I was in 5th grade, so I could be awake to see my father before he headed off to the office before everyone else got there) - IMO, it's still a lot better than the other vice that is common among Nordic folk - high alcohol consumption.
Avatar 1:21am Andrew S:

wow munster records still going strong
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21am Mr. Pumpy:

This is awesome! It sounds like Captain Beyond and Clear had a baby...and the baby took over!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22am chresti:

Pumpy, we had a zoom event a little while ago, how dare a virtual social event interfere with the Friday evening programing on wfmu!
Avatar 1:23am Bri:

I beat you to it Mod, I started in 4th grade
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23am Mr. Pumpy:

Bri...yeah. I was so excited to be reminded of them. So far they are only on an old iPod, so I have to dig through old hard drives in order to make them shareable. I will develop a few of the ideas, as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24am chresti:

*correction, we didn't HAVE the zoom event, we joined a zoom event.
  1:24am rw:

Kinda Soft Machine, kinda Beatles, kinda Chicago or Grass Roots or someone.
Avatar 1:25am Bri:

I’m excited to hear it Pumpy!
Avatar 1:25am Bri:

Friday programming at WFMU is the best!
  1:25am rich:

i used to love coffee but then my gut told me to stop so i haven’t had any for quite awhile (though i did enjoy some sips of an excellent espresso when tamar and i were in italy several years ago)
Avatar 1:26am Andrew S:

so good. like a crazy march
  1:26am rw:

I'd fly to Italy just for the espresso.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27am Mr. Pumpy:

rich...same here. I am a Darjeeling man now...have been for years. Coffee gives me acid stomach.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27am coelacanth∅:

rw - definitely on soft machine... maybe i'm crazy (ha...maybe...) but i hear a bit of mid-60s animals in there;
and Manfred Mann's chapter 3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29am Mr. Pumpy:

Yes...this is the stuff. So damn tasty!
Avatar 1:29am Mod Mokka Matti:

I find that adding ground cardamom to my coffee somehow makes even the more bitter blends more palatable. Of course, I add way more cardamom to my Pulla (braided Finnish coffee bread) whenever I make a few loaves, too. :)
Avatar 1:30am Bri:

Coffee was giving me heart palpitations for a while so I stopped, I tried to pick it back up to help when I pulled all nighters to get me back into a normal sleep routine but the caffeine would fog up my mind and make me do regrettable things, I later learned it aggravated my O.C.D.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31am Mr. Pumpy:

This sounds like some of my jams from a point in my life. And yes...I was getting into the modes bigtime. the system...it works!
Avatar 1:31am Bri:

I could never drink it black
  1:31am rw:

coel, yeah, actually the part I couldn't articulate was probably more Animals; MM. I'm not so good at that stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32am coelacanth∅:

irish tea, when made as i like it, gives me heart palpitations much more than coffee does
  1:32am rich:

just looked up pulla and it sounds delicious
Avatar 1:32am Andrew S:

clark hutchinson eh? sounds like a law firm but i gotta have this record thats the stuff for me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32am Mr. Pumpy:

Clark and Hutchinson play every instrument on this! Huzzah!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33am coelacanth∅:

rw, and i don't know the grass roots that well
  1:33am rw:

This Clark-Hutchinson is giving me heart palpitations.
  1:33am rich:

this is the record to get they have others but they sing on them not that it’s a bad thing but it’s different in a way that makes them sound like many other bands of the time
Avatar 1:34am Andrew S:

this stands out for sure
Avatar 1:34am Mod Mokka Matti:

@Bri, that's never good, having been there myself. And FWIW, I have to amend with cream and sugar. I still remember taking a sip of Dad's straight black coffee when I was in 3rd grade during Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner, and absolutely hating it. Funny how 2 years makes a big difference.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35am coelacanth∅:

Baby you palpitate my heart
Avatar 1:35am Bri:

Nice one coel
Avatar 1:36am Bri:

I had to have it bittersweet or sweet, with cream and syrup
Avatar 1:36am Bri:

Is it weird that I think he sounds like Steve Winwood?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37am Mr. Pumpy:

No. Not weird. I hear Ian Anderson.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37am coelacanth∅:

when we were little we eventually learned to not ask my mother for a sip of her coffee, as she took it black; and looked forward to the considerably rarer occasion when my father had it, as he loaded it with milk and sugar
Avatar 1:38am Bri:

Yes!! I heard that too Pumpy
Avatar 1:38am Mod Mokka Matti:

And on that note, I should really call it a night, at least on the chat board - so I can get me some shut-eye. But I'll keep the tunes playing in the background, and will be revisiting this installment in the archives, for sure. Thanks Rich, Tamar, and good night to all!
Avatar 1:38am Bri:

Your mom and dads tastes sound the same as my mom and dad’s tastes coel

goodnight mmm
Avatar 1:40am Andrew S:

water's ok in a pinch
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46am coelacanth∅:

Bri i think i started drinking coffee in the 4th grade too.
we didn't have snacks or sweets in the house, generally (and when we did it was tightly controlled)
however the sugar bowl was always there and apparently not monitored. however it came about i don't know but we were allowed to have as much coffee as we wanted.(unfortunately instant but i didn't know any different) so
a heaping teaspoon coffee, 2-3 heaping spoons of sugar and lots of milk was my candy. by 6th grade i had 4-5 cups/day.
  1:49am rw:

Ha! We did that coffee sugar milk drink too. I remember getting pretty sick on it once.
  1:50am rw:

coel, maybe that's why you don't sleep. Too much coffee and sugar in 6th grade.
Avatar 1:53am Bri:

Wow coel, I couldn’t drink that much
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54am coelacanth∅:

one day (9th grade) i was handing my (first) girlfriend something but had to hold it out for a minute and she said are you nervous?
i wasn't, and i knew i better stop so much coffee and sugar.
  1:54am rich:

i don’t remember drinking coffee until college. my dad drank coffee but he was leaving for work usually when i was getting up and my mom drank tea, despite the genetics it took me a long time to like tea (unless it was iced)
  1:56am rw:

Rich, is that a Minor Moon locked groove?? Nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57am coelacanth∅:

i drank very little coffee for probably a decade but started again since i moved up here and started enjoying hanging out at cafés
Avatar 2:00am Bri:

I felt like coffee made me come on to strong to my crush 😞
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01am coelacanth∅:

really? ...just because of hyperness?
  2:06am Bela from Budapest:

Another famous Béla
  2:06am rich:

rw, yes, it is one of the things i will miss when i go back in the studio because i have to plan out the show ahead of time so i have an idea of how the set will end so i record the bed loops ahead of time. being back in the studio though will make me soon forget about the loops

the minor moon loop (coincidentally, because of the earlier reference) reminding me of thick as a brick
  2:09am rw:

Ah! Rich, I thought there was a locked groove was the end of the Minor Moon track and you used it as your talk-over.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10am Mr. Pumpy:

Ahhhh...Bartók! Nice.

The only pre-recorded cassette I had as a teenager was Aqualung. Not sure why.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10am coelacanth∅:

so you record the bed loops ahead?

The plucking in that section right there. Excellent!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12am coelacanth∅:

i like that that plucking section

Reverse the polarity, rich. Works on TV all the time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14am coelacanth∅:

(i typed traktor then changed it to sampling because i really know little about traktor)

Labor Ready expected me to run a tamper for minimum wage. I was in Colorado around 1995. I tried. God bless all the strong men and women that operate jackhammers!!

@coel: I started to drink coffee in the 2nd grade at church. By grad school, I was up to 2-3 pots a day (I had to quite, it was destroying my GI tract)

and another show comes to its end. as always thank you for listening. next week john schnall returns with midnight matinee: byrne after reading, and john will once again be joining the chat; the opportunity to groan at bad puns presents itself like a peacock in an exquisite dream of an alley, the kind of alley you always hope to find yourself in, where a myriad of possibilities lie strewn just waiting for you, yes you!, to pick one up and discover the great meaning of your life, your purpose, your reason for being. though why does there need to be a reason for being? i mean we know the reason for being (thanks mom and dad and the little spark that set them off) but why do we always want it to be more than it is? like there’s some grand purpose to every single person who has ever lived’s life, and there is, but it’s not as many people would define a grand purpose, it’s not to stand out from the crowd, it’s to be part of the crowd, to become part of the scrum, to help if necessary, to hinder if necessary, to follow as many paths as you can during the allotted time, to enjoy life and what it offers and, if the opportunity presents itself, help others realize the same
