Handy - I've been a bit quiet on the boards (taking some time off work and not in front of the computer as much) but I wanted to just say, sorry things have been such a disaster... I wish there was something I could do to help. I know you don't want to dwell on it, but you have my sympathy, for what that's worth.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm David Dichelle:

Hey there, Spodiodi, Chris, Hubig, and David!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm YETI BOB:

From the 'pedia: "French Polynesia appeared in the world music scene in 1992, recorded by French musicologist Pascal Nabet-Meyer with the release of The Tahitian Choir's recordings of unaccompanied vocal Christian music called himene tārava. This form of singing is common in French Polynesia and the Cook Islands, and is notable for a unique drop in pitch at the end of the phrases, a characteristic formed by several different voices, accompanied by a steady grunting of staccato, nonlexical syllables."

NMA's version under "The Mermaid Song." Seems to be on YT, sigh. Released on the remastered Thunder and Consolation in 2005, it looks like, but I have it on a cassette dubbed from something earlier than that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm YETI BOB:

Brazil more than doubles the population total to 349.5M
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Handy Haversack:

Vatican City a notable slacker in the regard, YB.

Hiho, David in London.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Brian in UK:

Hello David & fellow travellers.
Round here the fields are being ploughed and 'taters planted.
The Rapeseed seems to have turned yellow overnight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm David Dichelle:

If Vatican City comes up, it will be an hour of Tom Lehrer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm ヱkョ:

French Polynesia was already one of my guesses last week (I think) so I'll go with Armenia (Հայաստան) this time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Carmichael:

In Vatican City, they sing holy see shantys.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Brian in UK:

Not had a pint of shandy for years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Brian in UK:

Carmichael, so sharp, you will cut yourself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm YETI BOB:

Brian in UK: It became popular here in the last few years under the name "Radler", I think it's the same thing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm David Dichelle:

Good evening, Brian! I know it's not fully evening yet, but it's an old habit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm Carmichael:

Isn't a shandy lemonade and ale? Ireland also has a Snakebite, which is Guinness and lemonade.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm David Dichelle:

Yes, Radler is German for shandy, unless you are in the north of Germany, then it's Alsterwasser.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm Handy Haversack:

Do you not get Leinenkugel Summer Shandy in Chicago, YB? It's certainly all over MI (and WI, I assume).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm spodiodi:

nice chresti \\//
i had a dream our nextdoor neighbors were growing about 10 stalks of corn (in a single line, which, shouldn't work, or at least that's been my understanding. what does it mean?)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm Michael 98145:

the latest sad fad appears to be "hard seltzer"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm Brian in UK:

YETI BOB, yes it is. Fifty/fifty beer & lemonade. Some folks have a lager top which just has a dash of lemonade at the end of pouring.
Carmichael, thought Snakebite was Guinness & Lager.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm David (in London):

Carmichael, if you ask for a snakebite in England, you'll get equal parts lager and cider, possibly with a dash of blackcurrant cordial.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm David Dichelle:

Funny you mention that Michael, I just looked that up yesterday since I'd never heard of it before.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm YETI BOB:

@HH: Oh of course Leinenkugel Summer Shandy, of course. It's pretty popular, but I'm too busy drinking Founder's All-Day IPA
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm ヱkョ:

@Brian in UK, we never see "rapeseed oil" on ingredients lists in North America anymore as producers here have switched to "Canola", meaning Canadian (“can”) oil (“o”) low (“l”) acid (“a”), a type of rapeseed, which not-so-coincidentally also removes the word "rape" from the oil's name:
www.rd.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm fred:

@Carmichael: I hold that the proper name for anything mixed with Guinness is abomination. But that's just me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Handy Haversack:

I'm not saying I've never done it, Hubig ...

What was the gose with caraway schnapps drink that came up a few weeks ago? I really want to try one of those.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm YETI BOB:

There was a bar here called "The Radler" and they made their own house mix. But they are closed now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Michael 98145:

@fred, could not agree more
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Brian in UK:

Fred totally agree as long as it is not too cold. Been drinking bottled Guinness recently.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Michael 98145:

@Ike, did not know that. thanks.
Avatar 12:42pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Guinness & Espresso may be admissible.
Loves Guinness - trying to imagine the taste of mixing it with lemonade...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Carmichael:

Guinness and hard cider (apple, usually)! Thanks David.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Brian in UK:

Apologies I meant Lager & Cidre.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm ヱkョ:

@M98145, I'm full of completely useless information, especially when I should be working instead.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm YETI BOB:

@HH: I believe you are thinking of the Regenschirm (umbrella).
Avatar 12:43pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Guinness, espresso & a scoop of vanilla ice-cream...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Brian in UK:

I used to enjoy Beamish & Crawfords stout from Cork. Not seen it for years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Handy Haversack:

D'oh, of course, YB. To once again quote Nietzsche: "Ich habe meinen Regenschirm vergessen."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Handy Haversack:

Sad Lovers and Giants! Woo hoo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Michael 98145:

Rapeseed fields are all over Central Europe. I suppose as petrol components.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Brian in UK:

David, oh yes Watford. S'funny I was going through old emails recently and came across some I wrote to you about visiting Istanbul, it was 2014, scary.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm David Dichelle:

Handy and Yeti Bob: Yes, it is called "Regenschirm" - Gose with a shot of Allasch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Brian in UK:

Rapeseed like Groundnut oil can take high heat so is good for stir fries etc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm Michael 98145:

"Rapeseed oil is used as diesel fuel, either as biodiesel, straight in heated fuel systems, or blended with petroleum distillates for powering motor vehicles." wikisez
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm David Dichelle:

Brian: Yes, the time sure does fly like a banana.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm YETI BOB:

Rapeseed oil is also called Canola, which I believe is a name created by the Canadian vegetable oil cartel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Carmichael:

Murphys and Beamish are in abundance here in NorCal. Don't know why. Also Paddy Irish Whiskey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Michael 98145:

Here we have tons of Jameson.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Michael 98145:

Oh. Love this AC Marias.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm David (in London):

Wow, A.C. Marias. Haven't heard them in aeons. Good pick Selecta!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Handy Haversack:

Murphys generally available in BK. Don't think I've seen Beamish. Seems like American stouts lately are just an excuse to get rid of all the maple syrup, chocolate, and marshmallows the brewers seem to have kicking about.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm Brian in UK:

Not sure which term I dislike most, Craft Beer or Real Ale.
Avatar 12:54pm Sem:

Random road guess: Flanders.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm fred:

@Brian in UK: I'm not fond of cold Guinness, but the Lee Scratch Perry ads came close to changing my mind (not really, but they're fun): youtu.be...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm Brian in UK:

Or why when Compact Discs appeared all records became vinyl.

Think I need a beverage. Bottle of chilled Budvar is calling.
Avatar 12:55pm Hubig Pie:

I know 2 songs by AC Marias , this one and There is a Scent of Rain, cuz I listen to FMU
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Handy Haversack:

Sem, I don't think it's on the list.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm YETI BOB:

@Sem - ISO-3166-1 does not recognize "Flanders" as a separate entity (yet)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm fred:

@Carmichael: Paddy is bad. Seriously, don't drink this stuff
Avatar 12:56pm βrian:

Excepting Ned.
Avatar 12:56pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

You want the Guinness warm enuff to taste. Not about being cold refreshing beer @ all in that sense.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm YETI BOB:

I used to have the A.C. Marias album "One of Our Girls Has Gone Missing" but it's gone missing (no joke!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm YETI BOB:

I remember I liked the song "Trilby's Couch"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm Carmichael:

Fred, I take it you're not Irish. 😝
Avatar 12:57pm Sem:

Thanks, gents. I amend my guess to the Kingdom of Belgium, and the very autonomous and distinct Flanders portion thereof.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm David Dichelle:

This one is in part about going to Nottingham just because there is a pub there - I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm fred:

@Carmichael: Guilty as charged
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Handy Haversack:

Noted in all particulars, Sem!

OK, I better make myself eat something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Michael 98145:

pivo and anarchy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm Brian in UK:

fred, love it. Dub, Dub, Dublin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Brian in UK:

There is allegedly the oldest pub in England Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem in Nottingham.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm David Dichelle:

Brian: That might explain the song - but probably not.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Michael 98145:

Dvě piva, prosím!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm fred:

@Sem: Having worked for a Walloon boss, I can tell you yours is a touchy take (he has a Flemish name, which led to many confusions, like someone sending a cover letter in Flemish spitting on Walloons. He wasn't hired)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Stanley:

I'm abord the train to Random Central.
Hi there Driver David and happy travellers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm David Dichelle:

Avatar 1:05pm βrian:

What's not to like about pommes frites?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm spodiodi:

what's up, Stanley?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm David Dichelle:

People here call fries/chips "Pommes". pronounced a bit like "pummice".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm David Dichelle:

Or "bummice" by the real locals.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm spodiodi:

after a long day at the rodeao, i sometimes need some pumice for my bummus
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm Michael 98145:

I still recall the German demanding of the French waiter "TOAST TOAST"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm David Dichelle:

Michael: I'm sure it was well appreciated.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm David Dichelle:

And of course Pommes regularly get covered with Mayo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm Michael 98145:

heh
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm Michael 98145:

malt vinegar for me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm David Dichelle:

Excellent choice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm chris in the redwoods:

that Fanfaraï track captured the essence of the show in a single cut. nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm Brian in UK:

Balsamic vinegar, mayo & salt.
Avatar 1:13pm βrian:

I might dip in some good mayo, but vinegar is preferable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm Stanley:

Spodi - I'm well, thanks.
It's gone six, finished work and got a beer on the go.
My spud is in the oven, too.
Avatar 1:14pm βrian:

Some zesty aioli with lime works, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm Carmichael:

Save the ketchup for escargot.
  1:15pm David Dichelle:

Avatar 1:15pm βrian:

I've yet to make ketchup at home, but I think I could make something pretty appealing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm spodiodi:

cheers, Stanley. what'll ya put on it?

Unfortunately, we're down to 30 quarts of tomatoes in the pantry, so we're having to conserve.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm YETI BOB:

I've never made ketchup but I made a pretty good Tabasco-style hot sauce last summer
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Stanley:

Spodi - butter and grated Cheddar cheese.
A humble repast for me this evening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm YETI BOB:

if I made ketchup I'd have to spice it up
Avatar 1:18pm βrian:

@YP: Yes, a bit of heat, lots of clove, etc. Maybe cardamom, too.
Avatar 1:19pm Hubig Pie:

You do not make Soy sauce
You buy Soy sauce
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm YETI BOB:

@Stanley - last night's supper was baked potato with leftover Chana Masala on top, it was surprisingly good
Avatar 1:19pm βrian:

YB, I mean.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm Handy Haversack:

Sounds great, Stanley.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm Stanley:

Yeti - I could easily go for that.
Handy - sure but I know I'll end up raiding the biscuit tin, later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm spodiodi:

sounds good, Stanley
was a time for eyars where i had a baked potato daily.
hash browns have been my latest potato delivery vehicle -- guessing i'll have one later again (will be the 4th day in a row. they're easy (and frozen.) i'm lazy.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm YETI BOB:

i'm getting hungry!
Avatar 1:22pm βrian:

I don't think I've had a baked potato since I was a kid. Probably alongside a sirloin steak.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm Brian in UK:

Stanley, kind of similar over here. It is Panhaggerty tonight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm YETI BOB:

βrian: we have a fireplace and I like to thow a couple of potatoes in at the end of the night when the fire has mostly died down - either a late-night snack or we eat 'em for breakfast.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm YETI BOB:

also whenever we go camping and there's a campfire - they get so smoky and delicious
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm Stanley:

Spodi - waddya going to do, cook up a gourmet dinner every damn night of the week? Like most people, I have a bunch of easy go-to midweek stuff, including supermarket pizza.
Avatar 1:25pm βrian:

A winter regular is potatoes/carrots tossed with olive oil, sea salt, red pepper flakes, and fresh rosemary. Roasted at 425.

When we rehabilitate our fireplace, baked potatoes will be on the menu, for sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm Handy Haversack:

Love a jacket potato.

spodi, have you tried the kind that you add boiling water to , let steep, and then fry for a minute? Surprisingly good. Like Denny's hashbrowns, but you can dress 'em up as desired.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm Michael 98145:

now i'm -really- getting hungry
Avatar 1:27pm βrian:

When I put down food before 7YrOld that seems to display insufficient effort, she furrows her brows into Devil's horns. Scary, that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm spodiodi:

Handy, i think i know the kind you mean. yes. yum.
the one's i'm talking about are TJs, kind of like a fast food style patty, but larger -- and fir nicely in the toaster (do not try this at home. see: lazy.))

Stanley, you have me thinking about supermarket pizza now too :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Handy Haversack:

Yeah, this salad is seeming even lamer now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm spodiodi:

ones/thise* TJ's* :-B
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Stanley:

Though I think βrian is the exception, round here.
Brian - had to look that up. Looks rustic and good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm spodiodi:

thise* those -- ok back to bed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Michael 98145:

geez, i enjoy this show. yes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm spodiodi:

salad? i thought you said you were going to make yourself *eat*, Handy (i hope there's some potato in it)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Rick from SC:

Nice to hear some Russian stuff. All I know is Pussy Riot and Khlam.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Stanley:

Focussing on the music, to take my mind off food.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm David Dichelle:

Thanks, Michael! And Chris (above), just reading comments from earlier.
  1:29pm Marie:

Just tuned in at the beginning of this set--love it. Hi everybody! Baked potatoes are so easy and delicious--but. to me, they need to be primo, dry, baking potatoes, like a lot of Idahoes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm David Dichelle:

Hey Rick, Khlam did that Leipzig song, though.
Avatar 1:30pm βrian:

Why, this salad is kartoffel!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm David Dichelle:

Hello Marie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm Handy Haversack:

Actually, Kate has band practice tonight, so Lucullus dines with Lucullus. Might need to pick up a potato and a can of Annie's veggie chili ...

Hey, Marie! You missed the Roud, but fortunately David still has ~400 years of material!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm Stanley:

Carbs, wonderful carbs!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm Michael 98145:

@HH, hope you both are feeling better ...
  1:31pm Kpx:

So, this is where a lot of the usual suspects disappear to on a Thursday afternoon. I see you were all talking about spuds. Speaking of which, does anyone remember that pizza potato recipe I've seen a couple of months back on someone's show, can't remember. But I've always wanted to try to make it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm David Dichelle:

At least I think it was Khlam.
Avatar 1:32pm Hubig Pie:

Handy, thems dried hash browns are shelf stable for months. It's what we used aboard ship during my years as a Coast Guard cook
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Handy Haversack:

Thanks, Michael! We are both fully recovered from the second enpokening. One day of fever and eye ache -- a small price to pay.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Michael 98145:

Had some excellent potato pizza in Canada
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm spodiodi:

i bet Chaif are Dire Straits fans (liked that song)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Michael 98145:

Yay! join the vax forward!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm YETI BOB:

The Roman-style pizza place near me does a potato-rosemary slice that's fantastic. The potatoes are sliced thin and curl up at the edges just like pepperoni (and olive oil substitutes nicely for the pepperoni grease)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm chris in the redwoods:

second jab of Dolly Parton this afternoon. stoked.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm David Dichelle:

Welcome Kpx!
Avatar 1:34pm βrian:

Can one be woked if one isn't yet poked?

There was a fine place for potato (and other authentic Italian) pizza slices in the West Village for a few years. Until it got obliterated and turned into, I don't know, yet another handbag shop or whatever
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm Stanley:

Nice one chris
Avatar 1:35pm Hubig Pie:

Thatsa Pizza Bianco, Yeti B
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm David Dichelle:

Avatar 1:36pm βrian:

If you appreciate excess, try making Potatoes Anna. Layered paper-thin potatoes, parm, and butter.

Oh, and butter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm YETI BOB:

Hubig Pie - no, not quite, this slice has tomato sauce too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm Handy Haversack:

Was kind of nice to know the ol' immune system was still there. It hasn't had a lot to do this past year.

There's a place in LIC that I bet would have potato pizza, but I have avoided it on spec on the basis of its just screaming "arriviste yuppies." My capacity for auto-nose-cutting being without limit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm Stanley:

Probably a good thing, Handy, as you avoid the inevitable snarky service.
Avatar 1:38pm βrian:

@Handy: Yes, really strange for an entire household to go full year without so much as a cold.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm dutchtheo:

Salute, David, et les voyageurs!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm chris in the redwoods:

got into a pizza discussion/argument with two police in Rome once, as we were all smoking. they disliked Roman pizza. turns out they were both from Naples. well, that explains it, said i.

I think as soon as this show is over I'm going up to Pizza Metro for some potato-rosemary slices. Thanks everyone for putting this in my head.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm chris in the redwoods:

gawd, i miss traveling. this show helps. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm Stanley:

Love the thin Romano pizza basis. In fact, I had the very best pizza of my life in Rome. Margherita, plain and simple but out of this world.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm Michael 98145:

what chris just said
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm YETI BOB:

@Yeti Bob: I really wish I can go with you, that sounds heavenly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm Handy Haversack:

Please bring back enough to share, YB!

Good point, βrian. And potato-rosemary pizza slices would really make roaming the apocalyptic urban wastelands easier to take!

What Michael just said.

Hey, Kpx.
Avatar 1:42pm βrian:

Do insist that the rosemary be artisanally foraged from the slopes of Mont Saint-Victoire!

Avatar 1:48pm Sem:

Annnnnnd, we're back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm Stanley:

I tghink it was you who started the potato talk over an hour ago.
I'm fine, if truth be told. My sojourn in the country ends next week, unfortunately, as I have to go back and sort out the office and it'll take a while.
Avatar 1:48pm βrian:

All this reminded me to pull out the shrimp in the freezer. Gonna rub 'em with garlic, chilis, and cumin, then flash them beneath the broiler. Oh boy.
  1:48pm Kpx:

@Stan the Man: don't I know it, in fact just before I logged on I was just thinking it's been forever since I had a Reuben sandwich. Now I'm pretty sure it's made with corned beef, but I think it also could be made with pastrami. But then I couldn't remember whether or not it came with dressing on it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Carmichael:

Nevada City, chris.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Stanley:

Kpx - wher you from? A Reuben sandwich sounds very NYC to me.
Avatar 1:49pm Sem:

Stanley, no prospect of another stint in the country, then?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm WR:

Hi all

David, at least when you back announce we know it's you I think...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm Stanley:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm YETI BOB:

KPX: corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Russian dressing.

Intoxicating, indeed RR63. I've been getting takeout occasionally during The Crazy, but usually feeling guilty about it afterwards
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm YETI BOB:

RR63: Any kind of rye bread
Avatar 1:53pm βrian:

Always wondered what Russians thought of "Russian" dressing.
  1:54pm Kpx:

@Stanley: you know I don't know the origin of a Reuben sandwich, but NYC sounds correct to me. I'm pretty sure you can get it just about anywhere in the US.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm Little Danny:

Hi David, hi all!

Lookin' forward to the Cambodian set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm YETI BOB:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm Handy Haversack:

Cambodia! Excellent choice, random.org.
Avatar 1:56pm βrian:

Is it Canadian Bacon or Canada Bacon?
  1:56pm headcleaner:

@Yeti - probably about the same as Americans do about caffè americano
  1:57pm Kpx:

Thanks Yet, but to be sure it absolutely got to be on rye.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Handy Haversack:

Lot of C countries so far: Cambodia, Cameroon, Canada, Costa Rica. Gonna have to factor that into the betting system.

No one wants to know how the goose bacon gets made. Really, no one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm spodiodi:

nice on Cambodia
  1:58pm headcleaner:

We better be seeing lots of Khmer script in the playlist in this next hour, David
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm YETI BOB:

@chris, I get jab #2 at 2:30 this afternoon. Equally stoked.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm Phillippe Bastille:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm David Dichelle:

Glad so many of you are getting your vaccinations!
Avatar 2:04pm βrian:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm Handy Haversack:

I wish only that a couple of weeks after all you fine folx getting your second enpokenings we could all get together for Regenschirms and potato pizza (pineapple on the side for Carmichael).

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm chris in the redwoods:

Khmer Pogues. me likey!

I was gonna say Khmer Beausoliel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm Handy Haversack:

Ha, exactly, Chris!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm Phillippe Bastille:

@βrian we have lamb just a few times a year and usually do a rosemary and garlic roast, but I decided to try smoking it this year, so I used a Moroccan rub I made up. Nicely infused after a couple hours. My bride ground the leftovers, added a little more spice and made a pie last night. yum!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm chris in the redwoods:

that works, too, Carm. now i want the Cambodian equivalent of gumbo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm Handy Haversack:

Kate points out she has guessed Cambodia before.

Also, she did an oral history volunteer project in Minneapolis in her college years with a Cambodian refugee family who had escaped -- fording rivers, dodging patrols, the whole deal -- with three children and four musical instruments. The mother told her about carrying three children at a time so the father could carry the instruments. The father brought them out and played them for her. But she can't right now remember the names of the instruments.
Avatar 2:14pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Hi all, this is so great--the music--who new? I'm dipping in and out because I am working but it is so bonkers what happened in Cambodia
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm Handy Haversack:

I'm just the messenger today, Rev Rab!

She accepts this tremendous honor, David!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm David Dichelle:

It is, Marie, we'll be hearing music from the pre-catastrophe era in a few minutes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm David Dichelle:

Exact years are hard to come by for many of these tracks, when missing, we can just assume late 60s/early 70s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm chresti:

Agree Marie. We have Cambodians that live across the street from us.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm David Dichelle:

You'd think Drakkar 74 is from 1974, but this is a later bonus track, recorded earlier.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm Carmichael:

Is this Wild Night (Van Morrison)?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm David Dichelle:

Weird thing: I talk sometimes with a Cambodian woman at my local supermarket about music, like Chhom Nimol's family in music. Often cut short by older customers who want to assert France's dominance. Weird that it's still an issue, but it is
