Avatar 1:57pm worldsworstrecords:

I'll be with you in a couple of minutes: don't forget to refresh that pop-up player!
  1:59pm Jay Pemberton:

And away we go!
Avatar 2:00pm worldsworstrecords:

...and we're off!
Avatar 2:00pm Paper Kosmonaut:

There we go!
Avatar 2:00pm worldsworstrecords:

Hi Jay!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm Rich in Washington:

Hullo!
Avatar 2:00pm worldsworstrecords:

Hey PK!
  2:00pm Jay Pemberton:

Hi!
Avatar 2:01pm worldsworstrecords:

Hi Rich!
Avatar 2:01pm StringOFperils:

Is this show compostable?
Avatar 2:01pm worldsworstrecords:

SOp! Absolutely!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm Rich in Washington:

Did you say 'late' Pat Boone?
Avatar 2:01pm Beany:

I'm here!
  2:02pm Listener Robert:

If you didn't know the original, wouldn't this version sound good?
Avatar 2:02pm worldsworstrecords:

Maybe? A slip of the tongue... he's still clinging on to dear life
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm Jan Turkenburg:

Hi again, everyone. Listening while lying on the couch with my feet up!
Avatar 2:02pm Paper Kosmonaut:

It's quite cheesy but is it a worst record?
Avatar 2:02pm worldsworstrecords:

Beany!
Avatar 2:02pm worldsworstrecords:

Hi Robert!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm Rich in Washington:

Pat's the living embodiment of white mediocrity. he cannot be killed. Even with atomic weapons.
Avatar 2:03pm worldsworstrecords:

there's an urban legend that has it that Pat wanted to change the words to Isn't That a Shame...
  2:03pm Jay Pemberton:

Paper....stay tuned, as they used to say. I know what's coming, but I won't spoil the surprise!
Avatar 2:04pm worldsworstrecords:

You can blame Jay Pemberton for this horror
Avatar 2:04pm Beany:

I need to explore Pat more. His In A Metal Mood is fab.
Avatar 2:04pm Paper Kosmonaut:

Hey guys, is Georgygirl taking it easy for the moment or is there something else?
Avatar 2:05pm Beany:

Those three magic words... "Not on label".
Avatar 2:05pm worldsworstrecords:

She is having electrical work done at her home, that's all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm Rich in Washington:

I know, Beany! How could any label have said no to this?
Avatar 2:05pm worldsworstrecords:

She'll be back on Friday
Avatar 2:06pm Paper Kosmonaut:

Ah so she's off the grid.
Avatar 2:06pm worldsworstrecords:

Very much so, PK ;-)
Avatar 2:06pm Beany:

Two hour show!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm Rich in Washington:

She's waiting for the electrician, or someone like him
(for those keeping score at home - this is the first Firesign Theatre reference of the day)
Avatar 2:06pm Paper Kosmonaut:

Is this in the category mumble rock?
Avatar 2:07pm Beany:

More power to her elbow.
Avatar 2:07pm worldsworstrecords:

TANDARTS!!!
Avatar 2:07pm Paper Kosmonaut:

TANDARTS!!1!1!
Avatar 2:07pm Paper Kosmonaut:

hahahahaha
Avatar 2:08pm worldsworstrecords:

I think Jay P called it 'Drunk Rock', PK!
  2:08pm Jay Pemberton:

Drunkountry!
Avatar 2:08pm worldsworstrecords:

Ahh... that's it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm Rich in Washington:

gosh. I'll bet you could do an entire episode of terrible Elvis death tribute records.
Avatar 2:09pm worldsworstrecords:

Going back to Pat Boone though, I did a whole half hour PB show for the April Fool's day takeover, but it didn't get used so I've decided to sprinkle some of the songs over the next few episodes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm Rich in Washington:

For a second I thought that record label said No-Sound and for some reason it set me off laughing hysterically.
Avatar 2:10pm worldsworstrecords:

Easily, Rich. And it may well happen!
Avatar 2:10pm worldsworstrecords:

One for Jan and PK
Avatar 2:10pm Paper Kosmonaut:

In that case, check out Danny Mirror with 'I remember Elvis Presley'.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm Rich in Washington:

I liked your Pat set, Darryl. It was like electro-convulsive therapy. It reset something in my brain.
Avatar 2:11pm worldsworstrecords:

Yes, PK, that's a classic...and a UK hit too!
Avatar 2:11pm worldsworstrecords:

Did it go out, Rich?
Avatar 2:11pm Paper Kosmonaut:

Really? good heavens. Sorry on behalf of the better-taste having part of my country..
  2:11pm Listener Robert:

I guess she's singing "me and my dog", but it sounds like "me and my duck", which rhymes better.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm Rich in Washington:

Oh boy. this is a new low! Right on!
Avatar 2:12pm Paper Kosmonaut:

I already was looking for a duck on the picture.
Avatar 2:12pm Beany:

I have a few quiet days coming up so I must delve into my collection for more suitable contributions.
Avatar 2:13pm StringOFperils:

The dog fluffy looks like a big dirty diaper.
Avatar 2:13pm Beany:

I love this Rich
Avatar 2:13pm worldsworstrecords:

Please, Beany... although you helped with this episode ;-)
Avatar 2:14pm worldsworstrecords:

Thanks again to Jay Pemberton for uncovering this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm Rich in Washington:

oh
  2:14pm Listener Robert:

What was the point of recording down a long hallway?
Avatar 2:14pm StringOFperils:

Artist and title of the day.
Avatar 2:15pm worldsworstrecords:

Thanks to Jay I have a number of gay Sherwood tracks that i shall be sharing with you over the coming weeks
Avatar 2:15pm Beany:

It is painful. More!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm Rich in Washington:

"screw the original song's structure! I'm gonna sing it MY WAY"
Avatar 2:16pm worldsworstrecords:

lol!
  2:16pm Jay Pemberton:

Actually the room it was recorded in was VERY dead. And small. (Yes, I've been there....I also own the Ampex valve tape machine this was mastered with, sounding quite better than it did in the previous owner's hands!)
Avatar 2:16pm StringOFperils:

It has a strict minimalism that I can get into.
Avatar 2:16pm Paper Kosmonaut:

happy. yes. happy.
Avatar 2:17pm Paper Kosmonaut:

sing happy. joy. pleasure.
Avatar 2:17pm Beany:

I'm not happy. I have nearly finished my beer.
Avatar 2:18pm Paper Kosmonaut:

beer. Good idea. I'll get one for you too, Beany.
  2:18pm Listener Robert:

Then, Mr Pemberton, what could possibly account for that sound? Was the tape machine used as a delay?
Avatar 2:20pm Beany:

Cheers PK. I have a chocolate and vanilla stout in the fridge calling to me.
  2:20pm Jay Pemberton:

Cranking shedloads of spring reverb onto the mix. Lots of people told me of going in there to record, hearing a playback of the raw tape, thinking it sounded OK, then getting the records and they'd be horrible, sounding little like they remembered!
Avatar 2:21pm Beany:

Henning Surprise (they released these) Records
Avatar 2:21pm Paper Kosmonaut:

Beany, I drink a nice alcohol free German beer called Jever. And it really tastes good. Cheers!
Avatar 2:22pm Paper Kosmonaut:

Henning Wehn has a record label?
Avatar 2:22pm worldsworstrecords:

I'm drinking white Zinfandel... I need it!
Avatar 2:22pm worldsworstrecords:

I'll bet he's Surprised, PK!
Avatar 2:23pm Beany:

I prefer free alcohol PK
Avatar 2:23pm Paper Kosmonaut:

I gave up alcohol two years ago for several reasons. Unfortunately there still isn't any good tasting alcohol free wine.
  2:24pm Jay Pemberton:

Drink enough and Double Shot will sound brilliant! When I got the tape finished I told the band member I handed it over to that he (or whomever) needed to be as drunk as they were when the recordings were made, else they wouldn't sound right. He just laughed....
Avatar 2:24pm worldsworstrecords:

Isn't alcohol-free wine just grape juice?
Avatar 2:25pm Paper Kosmonaut:

there has been some fermenting going on but it tastes like weak shite anyway.
Avatar 2:25pm StringOFperils:

Wonderfully horrible.
Avatar 2:25pm Beany:

Are you familiar with the legendary Frank Sidebottom? A brewery local to me is licensed to produce a range of Frank Sidebottom beers. They even have a full-size model of Frank in their bottle shop. Bobbins!
Avatar 2:26pm worldsworstrecords:

I absolutely adore this record
Avatar 2:26pm worldsworstrecords:

...but I love pretty much everything Bob Storm recorded
Avatar 2:27pm worldsworstrecords:

Frank came to perform at an XTC convention I was at in 1989. genuinely the maddest thing I've ever seen
Avatar 2:27pm StringOFperils:

I ever made a film, I'd be sure that this record was somewhere on the soundtrack.
Avatar 2:28pm worldsworstrecords:

Maggots in ya catapult!
Avatar 2:28pm worldsworstrecords:

Just for Beany...
Avatar 2:29pm Beany:

The competition has finished
  2:29pm ARB:

Well this got me to pull my car over
Avatar 2:29pm worldsworstrecords:

hahaha! hey ARB!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm Rich in Washington:

Oh. I new standard by which to measure awful.
Avatar 2:29pm Paper Kosmonaut:

Hi ARB!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm Rich in Washington:

I loved it.
Avatar 2:30pm worldsworstrecords:

here's one for ARB
Avatar 2:31pm Beany:

Talking off sport stars do you have Harvey Smith's True Love?
Avatar 2:32pm worldsworstrecords:

.I've played it, Beany
  2:32pm ARB:

President of the Cacique fan club here
Avatar 2:32pm worldsworstrecords:

... I think!
Avatar 2:32pm Feldpausch:

Let's just have a new show called Spooky-Doo on Sheena's so we can hear that once a week
Avatar 2:33pm Beany:

I need to check your playlists Darryl
Avatar 2:33pm worldsworstrecords:

Good idea, Feldpausch
Avatar 2:34pm worldsworstrecords:

I think I've played it, Beany... although it might be one I've included on the blog. I'll have to check
Avatar 2:35pm Beany:

How about Torvill & Dean. Singing.
Avatar 2:35pm worldsworstrecords:

Nope, just checked the spreadsheet, and I have not played Harvey Smith on the show... that's going on the playlist soon then!
Avatar 2:35pm worldsworstrecords:

I definitely do not have T&D
Avatar 2:36pm Sonderangebot:

oh boy
Avatar 2:36pm Beany:

This is a brilliant record.
Avatar 2:36pm worldsworstrecords:

hey Sonderangebot!
Avatar 2:36pm Paper Kosmonaut:

This is not canon for the Whovians. I repeat: this is not canon for Whovians.
Avatar 2:37pm worldsworstrecords:

...this comes from the febrile mind of Hi-NRG supremo and Dr Who fan Ian Levine
Avatar 2:37pm Sonderangebot:

Hey wwr!! I can't help being mesmerized by the man with the mullet and the kind of western knot in the middle.
Avatar 2:37pm worldsworstrecords:

But it's got Colin Baker on, PK!
Avatar 2:38pm Beany:

Jon Pertwee has a great catalogue of bad records
Avatar 2:38pm worldsworstrecords:

Not sure who that is, Sondy... looks a bit like Bobby Gee from Bucks Fizz
Avatar 2:38pm Paper Kosmonaut:

Colin Baker is my least favourite doctor.
Avatar 2:39pm worldsworstrecords:

Really? Worse than Sylvester McCoy?
  2:39pm Jay Pemberton:

All they needed was Bonnie Langford tossing in some screams....
Avatar 2:39pm Paper Kosmonaut:

Yes. Sorry. Good old Syl is next worst though.
Avatar 2:40pm worldsworstrecords:

:-)
Avatar 2:40pm Paper Kosmonaut:

Wow, Hahahaha this is great!
  2:40pm Listener Robert:

That one's much better with the visuals.
Avatar 2:40pm Beany:

See... those three words again!
Avatar 2:41pm Paper Kosmonaut:

favourited!
Avatar 2:41pm StringOFperils:

Another accidentally great title
Avatar 2:42pm worldsworstrecords:

It's manic!
  2:42pm Jay Pemberton:

Recorded on a ghetto blaster on the worst tape they could find!
Avatar 2:43pm Beany:

I'm crying
Avatar 2:43pm Paper Kosmonaut:

like an erased Reader's Digest promo tape.
Avatar 2:44pm Beany:

I'm really crying now.
Avatar 2:45pm worldsworstrecords:

So, just over a quarter of an hour left, then it's time for Bell-Bottomed Neophites
Avatar 2:46pm Beany:

You are definitely driving me to drink.
Avatar 2:46pm worldsworstrecords:

sorry... Neophiliacs
  2:46pm Jay Pemberton:

Is that Keota in Oklahoma or Iowa?
Avatar 2:46pm Paper Kosmonaut:

Tomato potato.
Avatar 2:47pm worldsworstrecords:

I'm not sure, Jay. I found it on SoundCloud and had to share it
Avatar 2:48pm Beany:

I made the mistake of checking this single on Discogs. OMG
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:48pm ARB:

Representing the Bibbless Overall Pataphysicist's here
Avatar 2:49pm worldsworstrecords:

Joan was quizzical...
Avatar 2:50pm worldsworstrecords:

(which works on two levels I've just realised... Sue Nicholls played Joan in Reggie Perrin)
Avatar 2:51pm Beany:

I saw Sue in the Sainsbury's near Granada once.
  2:52pm Listener Robert:

How far down the road did they keep milking that Reggie Perrin show after they rn away from the original premise?
Avatar 2:52pm worldsworstrecords:

so, two more tunes to go, then it's over to our guest host, the late Vincent Price, for an hour of DJ GG-inspired sounds
Avatar 2:53pm worldsworstrecords:

Not very far, Robert. I think there were only three, possibly four series in total
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm ARB:

Wow! It's almost like he's ripping off the Parade soundtrack, if anyone would ever dare
  2:54pm Listener Robert:

Heh, Mr. Pemberton, I know the Iowa Sigourney-Keota HS from their football around the turn of the century -- examined it as a specimen of the spin T offense.
Avatar 2:54pm Paper Kosmonaut:

Ooooh Quick! where's my shotgun?
Avatar 2:54pm Sonderangebot:

My favorite! Little Marcy!
Avatar 2:54pm Feldpausch:

(twisting moustache) Vincent... Price... you say?
Avatar 2:54pm worldsworstrecords:

Well, ARB, it has been snowing in April here!
Avatar 2:54pm Paper Kosmonaut:

I have an allergy for these voices.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm Rich in Washington:

Marcy!
  2:55pm Jay Pemberton:

I have friends in the UK who've posted pix saying 'Merry Christmas--or is it Easter?'....
Avatar 2:55pm worldsworstrecords:

I'm allergic to Autotune, PK... it genuinely hurts me
Avatar 2:56pm Paper Kosmonaut:

I can relate to that, Darryl.
Avatar 2:56pm worldsworstrecords:

It's true, Jay... it snowed here in Bristol yesterday
  2:56pm Jay Pemberton:

I can't stand autotune either--can hear it from miles away.
Avatar 2:56pm Paper Kosmonaut:

Jim Noste hardly keeps his equilibrium holding that microphone.
  2:57pm Listener Robert:

Ah, but Neil Cicierega has turned autotune into an art form.
Avatar 2:57pm worldsworstrecords:

that's the last tune for this week's show, but if you like High Waisted Modernists please stay tuned, for the next hour is rather special, then we have a brand new show after that
Avatar 2:57pm Sonderangebot:

What's the Island Home Center?? MMmm
Avatar 2:57pm Feldpausch:

LOL Paper Kos!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm ARB:

It's preferable to the Frank Sanazi rendition....
Avatar 2:57pm Beany:

Sid Vicious is rolling in his grave.
Avatar 2:57pm worldsworstrecords:

It hurts my ears. I cannot express how offensive I find that sound
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm Otis:

Thanks Darryl for the madness 'n' marcy this afternoon... ready for the next hour alongside work ya bet!
Avatar 2:58pm worldsworstrecords:

the Island Home Center was Jim's home improvement store, Sondy
  2:58pm Jay Pemberton:

Good tenor sax fills on this track though!
Avatar 2:58pm worldsworstrecords:

hey Otis!
Avatar 2:58pm worldsworstrecords:

the band were excellent, Jay... and expensive!
Avatar 2:59pm Paper Kosmonaut:

Thanks for these awful records, Darryl!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm Otis:

Short on comments, long on listening this afternoon.
Avatar 2:59pm Beany:

Bravo!
  2:59pm Listener Robert:

Neil Cic uses Sonar's Melodyne to make it sound like rappers are singing to an unrelated piece. Not exactly what its inventors had envisioned!
Avatar 2:59pm worldsworstrecords:

do stay tuned... there's some great music coming up
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00pm Rich in Washington:

Thanks, Darryl!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00pm Jan Turkenburg:

Thanks Darryl!
Avatar 3:00pm StringOFperils:

Avatar 3:00pm Beany:

Oh I love the sound of books
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:01pm Otis:

Oh cool, same playlist, different zounds! The Price is right!
Avatar 3:02pm Martinibomb:

Hello!
Avatar 3:02pm worldsworstrecords:

It was easier than setting up a page for a one-off (really great) shoe
Avatar 3:02pm Paper Kosmonaut:

hey MB!
Avatar 3:02pm worldsworstrecords:

Hi MB!
Avatar 3:02pm Paper Kosmonaut:

There's no business like Shoebusiness.
Avatar 3:03pm Beany:

That's it I'm OFF.... for another beer! Then I'm off into the loft to rummage in my crate of religious records with this show playing LOUD.
Avatar 3:03pm worldsworstrecords:

Thanks Beany... 'see' you soon!
Avatar 3:06pm Martinibomb:

I might do some stream squatting after Flans show today - which I'm looking forward to hearing after this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm Otis:

I love the Co-Star Party records. Used to play them with friends years ago getting drunk and reading lines.
Avatar 3:08pm worldsworstrecords:

They're great, aren't they? I have four or five, including Basil Rathbone and Cedric Hardwicke
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm Rich in Washington:

I think Tommy Wiseau or Neil Breen should do Co-Star Party records.
Avatar 3:09pm worldsworstrecords:

That would be fun!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm Otis:

Well, we can pretend Mrs. Miller was on Co Star with her Open End Interviews. ;)

Listening as I get back to it. Lovely Library Sounds here D!
Avatar 3:11pm worldsworstrecords:

I'm enjoying this... a chance to show off some of the Library records I've purchased over the last couple of years... all Georgy's fault, of course!
Avatar 3:12pm worldsworstrecords:

Thanks Otis!
Avatar 3:18pm Paper Kosmonaut:

It sounds really nice. Good choices.
Avatar 3:19pm Beany:

I'm back in one piece. They all sound like sixties TV theme music. Which is a good thing of course.
Avatar 3:19pm worldsworstrecords:

Thank you, PK!
Avatar 3:20pm worldsworstrecords:

Definitely. Paul Bonneau - playing now - provided a lot of music for The Prisoner
Avatar 3:20pm worldsworstrecords:

Loads of tracks from the Telecineradio series turn up in The Girl Who was Death episode
Avatar 3:23pm worldsworstrecords:

Incidentally, the track on the flip side to the Les Reed Combo 45 I played earlier is the theme tune to the WWRRS!
Avatar 3:31pm Beany:

I wonder how many of these LPs were thrown away by TV companies. The one's I have certainly were. Charity shop finds.
Avatar 3:32pm worldsworstrecords:

Loads, I'll bet, Beany
Avatar 3:33pm Beany:

Also CDs for pennies these days.
Avatar 3:33pm shangri-lounge:

Hi Darryl!
Avatar 3:33pm worldsworstrecords:

absolutely
Avatar 3:34pm worldsworstrecords:

Hi shangri-lounge! Welcome to my little library hour!
Avatar 3:35pm worldsworstrecords:

I've always found it odd that these companies - especially Chappell and deWolfe - were still producing 78rpm 10"s until the early 60s, and 10" LPs until the mid-60s. TV and Radio studios must have been pretty primative!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Franco Twinkie:

Executive model? That's Me! Hey Darryl.
Avatar 3:38pm worldsworstrecords:

hey Franco!
Avatar 3:38pm worldsworstrecords:

Apologies for the absence of Georgy and HWM... hope these groovy 60s library sounds are helping to fill the gap :-)
Avatar 3:39pm Paper Kosmonaut:

they sure do. You're doing a great job, Darryl.
Avatar 3:39pm Beany:

We probably forget how cheap it was to produce vinyl records back then in UK pressing plants.
Avatar 3:40pm worldsworstrecords:

:-)
Avatar 3:41pm worldsworstrecords:

It was cheaper still on the Continent, Beany, until EMI put the kybosh on that
Avatar 3:42pm worldsworstrecords:

Saga used to get their records pressed in France, until EMI bought the plant and refused to take any British business
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Franco Twinkie:

Whisk me away, all expenses paid!
Avatar 3:47pm Beany:

Went downstairs for a beer, came back with tea. Turned on the soccerball. It is snowing heavily in Munich. No relation to the Coronation Street Tilsleys?
Avatar 3:49pm worldsworstrecords:

I doubt it... the Peter Dudley Experience?
Avatar 3:52pm worldsworstrecords:

Coming up in a few minutes, a brand new show to Sheena's Jungle Room: www.wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm ARB:

Thanks for the double dose Darryl!
Avatar 3:57pm worldsworstrecords:

That's it folx! I won't be here next week, but GG will be looking after my message board and will return with her own show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm Otis:

Super Spring (to my step) Sounds Darryl... and Vincent!
Avatar 3:58pm Paper Kosmonaut:

Thanks Darryl for this tour de force.
Avatar 3:59pm worldsworstrecords:

Thank you all for your company!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm ARB:

See ya all in New Flanland!
Avatar 3:59pm worldsworstrecords:

I've missed a track from the set list! I think this is from 'Lucky Me'... I'll have to check and update the setlist later!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm Franco Twinkie:

Thank you Darryl.
Avatar 4:00pm worldsworstrecords:

Bye all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm Rich in Washington:

Thanks again, Darryl! That was fun listening!
Avatar 4:00pm Feldpausch:
