Cover of Joan! WOW!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am Krys O.:

Joan Armatrading on the inspiration for writing the song: It was not a romantic couple that inspired this song, but rather two feuding band members.

Armatrading recalled to Daniel Rachel in the book The Art of Noise: Conversations with Great Songwriters: "It's actually about two chaps on tour who were in my band. One of them was little and one was big and they were always arguing, always doing what it says in that song, but you kind of had the feeling that they loved it. Just getting at each other: you'd think, 'Get a room already.' They weren't gay. Like a terrier, that just gets any big dog."

Hey everyone! Nice to be tuning in live again, for a change. I once picked up decent lot of vinyl from a huge estate sale for someone that had once been connected to the radio station on a nearby state college campus, and the casingles alone could’ve filled pickup truck. I regret not having more friends back then, or I would’ve come away with a lot more than what I could stuff into my backseat.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am Rich in Washington:

I once found an ad where a prominent local alt/weekly rag was looking for a home for all their review CDs, so I went to pick them up to help create a library for the college station I was DJing at at the time.
It was depressing to see so many home made or small press CDs just unopened and ignored.
I kept a bunch of cooler stuff as payment for my time and toil, natch.

  11:40am JP From KC:

@Rich, I remember mining for gold in the reject bin at my campus station, too. Pulled a few solid gems, but I remember that same feeling. So much potential to be judged so thoughtlessly.

@JP From KC: I just feel bad for the cute homemade CDs, often with personal notes to the reviewers. That rag also had some unbelievably smug and snotty reviews, so maybe they got off easy being ignored.
It certainly gave the part of me that wanted - at the time - to be a music producer pause.

I read that when Nic Harcourt hosted the morning show on KCRW, he would give each CD sent to the station a five minute listen to decide if he would play anything from it due to the large volume of submissions sent to independent stations that Joe B mentions.
