  9:08pm paparay:

A whole lotta stuff tonight!
  9:10pm PJ:

@Ashville Jon: I am not a Sting fan, but I saw him a few years ago at Jazz Fest, and he put on a really good show, played all the hits.
  9:11pm Andres:

Hey, paparay! Hey, all! I wasn’t happy about the end of The Police but eventually I came to accept that song as good jazzy fun!
  9:13pm paparay:

A buddy of mine ironically named Sting Internatonal produced Sting & Shaggy's LP. Yes, sad to see The Police retire. They split when they were on top. Didn't see Sting solo. I've always Stewart Copeland's musicmanship. He's quite articulate and intelligent. Sting a bit of an ego-maniac. Andy Summers is another interesting chap. Saw his documentary. His photos are impressive.

They're up there!
  9:23pm Robm:

@Briana is that ceder falls iowa?
  9:23pm PJ:

@paparay: I agree that the Police benefited from Sting's pop sensibilities while keeping his pretensions inclinations more in check. I have no idea what went down with the Police, but I imagine that, with some artists, once they've reached that level of success, it's hard to want to put up with bandmates saying, "Eh, that one's not so good, Sting. But just wait until you hear my song, "Mother", you're gonna love it!"
  9:23pm PJ:

I've listened to Robyn Hitchcock's song, "Listening to The Higsons" many times, but this is the first time I've actually heard The Higsons.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm Ciggy:

I always got The Higsons and APB confused. Duh.
Avatar 9:25pm briania:

@Robm, yes indeed!
  9:25pm paparay:

@ Ciggy: They do have a similar sound, don't they?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26pm listener 126464:

odd touring partners - saw The Higsons supporting X at City Gardens
  9:26pm paparay:

APB more raw & funky!
  9:26pm Robm:

@Briania thats cool

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38pm Mr. Pumpy:

I'm just about set up in my new place wherein I'll be blowing the dust off a ton of 12"s. It will take time, though. Sweet time, at that!
  9:38pm paparay:

I have this Red Rockers video on a Telegenics video club reel VHS. Lots of great stuff on that VHS. Before YouTube y'all.
  9:38pm paparay:

@ Mr. Pumpy: Oh yessss, time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39pm Mr. Pumpy:

whoa...I just realize we sound like mad scientists ala Dr. Evil, when talking about our vinyl collections!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39pm Ciggy:

Yeah, APB - the guy in the lobster bib
  9:40pm PJ:

Ray, were you a DJ in the 80s, or did you pick up all these 12"s later?
  9:40pm paparay:

@ Mr. Pumpy: And we should. Folks don't know the struggle we went through.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41pm medson:

The 82-83 stuff takes me back to High School.
Bringing back some memories.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42pm Ciggy:

B Movie - I would play Nowhere Girl, over and over...
  9:42pm paparay:

@ PJ: I was always spinning at house parties. A little of everything. I started spinning new waves a gang of friends would put on. I spun at Mission and The Pyramid which just closed and some small places like Bar 13 and The Gemini Lounge.
Avatar 9:42pm briania:

This Nowhere Girl mix is a groover from the day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43pm Mr. Pumpy:

paparay...true! Let's go on the offensive now. "Do you have the first Tones on Tail 7"? What?! You suck!! HA!!!
  9:43pm otto:

!!!!! R A Y !!!!!
  9:44pm paparay:

@ PJ: During the 80's I befriended a few DJ's at clubs and saw and listened to their selections. I even loaned some of them records. Fun times. WLIR was a big influence on me as well as stuff heard in those clubs. And stuff heard stuff in Queens.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44pm Mr. Pumpy:

Mission and Pyramid...damn! That's th shit, right there.
  9:44pm paparay:

@ Mr. Pumpy: I have Go! 12" on red vinyl.
  9:44pm Vertual:

Spent many a late night cutting college newspaper copy with exacto knives and pasting them onto pages before computers listening to all this. I can just smell those photographic processing chemicals...
  9:45pm paparay:

@ Vertual: That's what I did as an art school student at SVA.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm Mr. Pumpy:

HA! I know you do! WLIR!!! Right there with ya. It helped that my mother married again hand my stepbrother was from Lawrence, on LI. It went from there, though. LIR became the thing it deserved. I was already running on that track, and it was another fuel source. GOOD TIMES!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47pm medson:

I loved off the boat on LIR
  9:47pm PJ:

@paparay: Like so many DJs on FMU, it's clear you have a deep relation with the music and the milieu.
  9:48pm paparay:

@ medson: Sundays at 10pm Off The Boat. That theme!!!! Gonna drop that maybe next show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm medson:

Hell yeah.
  9:49pm Vertual:

Pretty cool paparay - although I don't want to remember the headlines I came up with at 3 in the morning to fit the space...when it came out on paper the next day i was rather embarrassed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm Mr. Pumpy:

We went to pick him up one day and his buddy was building a (better) skateboard ramp (than mine in NJ) while talking about the Circle Jerks and The Damned. Nothing was ever the same. Black Flag and The Buzzcocks took the back seat for a few weeks.
  9:50pm paparay:

@ Mr> Pumpy: WLIR introduced me to a lot of music and opened me up to a lot. I bought all the songs I liked that I heard. I would surprise people when I had songs they couldn't find.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52pm listener 126464:

Please pass the thinner and a 6 pt. scotch rule tape.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54pm Krill Sagan:

WOWZA this Re-Flex is a banger!
  9:54pm Justin:

Rest In Peace Pyramid Club! It's so sad that it closed, after surviving this long. I saw bands there in high school back in '87-89.
  9:54pm paparay:

A song that's more relevant now than before!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54pm Mr. Pumpy:

@paparay...me hears ya. There were some Jersey stations, but they had weak signals, and only did things at certain times. College stuff. Although I used to tape them a lot on cassette and listen back. I recall one show exposed me to both Siouxsie's Nicotine Stain and New Pleasure by Richard Hell. this was another defining moment in my musical education.
  9:54pm Vertual:

The best incentive for working at a college paper or radio station in the 80s was to snag the promo records that came in the mail before anyone else did!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54pm chad from oregon:

All the hits, all the time.
  9:56pm paparay:

I was lucky to get a job in the 90's at a record store in Greenwich Village which led to my music industry entry. I spent a lot of my paycheck at places like St. Mark's Sounds. THE BEST USED RECORD STORE EVER!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56pm Krill Sagan:

Radio to cassette, sir pumpy! And that’s how Siouxsie found you, amazing; me- Slowdive & Spiritualized
  9:57pm paparay:

First Siouxsie tune I heard might have been Christine. First video might be Dear Prudence. Slowdive was a close second.
  9:58pm Andres:

Krill Sagan, agreed, a banger!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59pm Doug in JC:

Hey Mr. Pumpy, nice meeting you today! Got me thinking back on WNTI and WPSC
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00pm Krill Sagan:

Yas, paparay...reminds me also of checking out Cocteau Twins on tape from the public library totally blind cuz I liked the cover!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02pm Mr. Pumpy:

Dear Prudence is one of my favorites being I am a Cure fanatic, and the Dear Prudence 7" feature Robert Smith as an actual band member. being he played and toured on Hyena. I have it. Probably not worth much, but to me, priceless! Huzzah!
  10:02pm paparay:

@ Krill Sagan: Cocteau Twins went over my head in the early days. Didn't get sucked in till I heard Carolyn's Fingers from Blue Bell Knoll. I won the LP one night at a club and my life has never been the same. Went out and grabbed everything that said COCTEAU TWINS on it.
  10:03pm paparay:

Robert Smith held it down when he played with Siouxsie. There was some bickering.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm Krill Sagan:

Yah that was the album, paparay, my first one!
Same pumpy with my Creatures 7”- racy Siouxsie cover mmmm hmmmm
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm Mr. Pumpy:

Yes...some bickering. Came down to Siouxsie referring to him as Fat Bob...what with his space opera's and all. HA!
Avatar 10:05pm Stashu:

We were just TOTALLY dancing the the politics of dancing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm Krill Sagan:

Ohhh to be a fly on the wall for one of those rows, paparay
Avatar 10:06pm Stashu:

To the*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07pm Krill Sagan:

And then you can dance to The The, Stashu!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07pm Mr. Pumpy:

  10:07pm paparay:

@ Krill Sagan: That sleeve by The Creatures....DAMN!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08pm Krill Sagan:

Sigh, paparay.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm Mr. Pumpy:

Stashu! How ya livin'?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm Krill Sagan:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09pm Mr. Pumpy:

The synth sequencing is DOPE in this track. As if you needed me to say that.
Avatar 10:10pm herb.nyc:

Just tuned in. I had Oh-Ok “complete recordings” on, for it was mentioned on Sheila B’s commentboard 4.5hrs ago. It includes songs from their April 6, 1984 peppermint lounge show. I was there! Good evening all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10pm Mr. Pumpy:

anyway, Stashu, what up?
  10:10pm paparay:

Sadly, didn't see Siouxsie & The Banshees live. Seen The Cure. My wife will chime in on how she was at the concert filmed for The Cure In Orange.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm Mr. Pumpy:

Oh SHIT...here we go. JMJ is in the HOUSE!!! RIP
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12pm Mr. Pumpy:

papa...let her chime. Saw them both, but The Cure more. 1989 at Giants Stadium...you may have been there. Love and Rockets and The Pixies. IT was epic, and allowed such a huge crowd!
  10:13pm paparay:

@ Mr. Pumpy: First time was in the 90's at Nassau Colesseum during Wish. Front row!
  10:15pm paparay:

Many friends saw them during The Top tour.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm Mr. Pumpy:

papa...SICK! I got up there in the aughts, but I was always in nosebleeds back then. It's all good. I'm happy for ya. WISH is an amazingly good album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm Ciggy:

I have that laserdisc of The Cure in L'Orange. It's not synched up. But it's still a great documentation of The Cure's era.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm Mr. Pumpy:

Ride, Sally, Ride...
  10:16pm mr_donutsu:

Is this Sly’s own remix?
Avatar 10:17pm ledzeppelinsucks:

Red Rockers were on 415
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm DjLorraine:

So Alive Love and Rockets you just reminded me
  10:17pm paparay:

@ Mr. Pumpy: The Cure came back for that tour & was to play in Flushing but there was construction. They came back to Nassau and announced OPEN SEATING. People camped out early. We got there early and dashed for front row and got the same seats we did the last time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17pm Mr. Pumpy:

@domutsu...I am of the understanding that they are all his mixes. I? could be wrong. He is an amazing and controlling talent.
  10:18pm Vertual:

I was around 5 years old when the original Dance to the Music came out- I was hooked on Sly my dad's jukebox ever since.
  10:19pm paparay:

@ mr_donutsu. From a compilation remixed by John Luongo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm Mr. Pumpy:

@papa...excellent! I love it when a plane comes together. Good for you. It's magic. I saw them 3rd row in Philly with general admission...after meeting him at a record store earlier that day. Weird shit happens!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm Ciggy:

I went to that Cure Open Seating at Nassau.
I got there very late.
Still had a great time.
1st saw them at MSG for the Kiss Me Kiss Me tour.
Saw them at Radio City also. They're the best!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm Mr. Pumpy:

Swag For Life Member 10:33pm bloumejune:

@Mr. Pumpy No..not from Lahmacun(? )It is a mix between a French name that I liked and the old Pink Floyd/Syd Barrett song that goes 'June Bloom'. A name created for my dog who's now long gone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm Mr. Pumpy:

ciggy...that's a crazy lineup right there!

G'day Ray & Boogies!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10pm Ciggy:

An old co-worker who DJ'd as Libra Love in Flatbush would proclaim Dennis Brown as the only one!

"It's My Life" is easily one of the best pop singles ever recorded and I can hardly get enough of it, ever. And that bass line is bar none.

It's my life!!! Don't go forgetting. Seriously, that would be lame. Forgetting and all. (mascara smears)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm Ciggy:
