Bob - Thnaks for All This Is That. I've always loved that track. One of my all-time favorites. One of Carl Wilson's best vocal performances, IMHO

Hey Bob, I think Steve Ferguson appears on Escalator Over The Hill! I know Terry was part of Carla’s band in the ‘70s, but seeing Steve’s name in the credits to EOTH really blew my mind.

Good morning, Bob and brains. I love jazz, and I love the Beatles, but I'm not usually wild about jazz covers of the Beatles. That one did it for me. Mind-expanding as ever, Mr. B.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am PaulRobeson1920:

@Zoot I photographed something similar in L.A. hahaha just like crazy Otto...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38am Zetti:

If ya like Dr. John's playing and New Orleans piano, checkout the documentary film Bayou Maharajah (2013) featuring James Booker. www.imdb.com...
Avatar 9:39am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Apes - no tails. After 4million+ years, debated if - indeed - we should no longer be laid on the Apes' doorstep either...
adamdoesit: This does one thing a Cover should: make you marvel @ a song's construction via a different angle. Perhaps PaperbackWriter is a jam better suited for a Jazz head tune than others relying on TheBeatles' delivery... I'm thinking a satisfying Comp. of Beatle Jazz could be done!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41am Marley P. Dogg:

Bob - so sorry for your losses - I hate March too - my dad’s passing was in March
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42am Rick from SC:

Okay, now I have to crank it up
Avatar 9:42am Bob Brainen:

London Jazz Four...meant to say their -name- is prosaic (not their album). Oy.
Avatar 9:42am StringOFperils:

Whooa!! The Crimson King on a Saturday morning! This show is great.
  9:43am Listener Robert:

You're right about chess. Once you get into SERIOUS playing, it gets to be very taxing and makes it hard for the rest of your life to play less seriously and enjoy it.
Avatar 9:43am Bob Brainen:

Zetti, someone mentioned that Doc, recently. Gonna try to see it. Is it on any platform?
Thanks Marley P. Dogg, my condolences to you too.
  9:44am Jeff:

Sorry for your loss, Bob. The son of two old friends of mine just passed away. Hearing “All This Is That” was just what I needed.
  9:44am prudy:

Bob, thanks for sharing those memories with us...condolences for your losses..
  9:44am ...nothing follows:

I too had a great friend who recently passed away almost the same story but instead of chess it was magic the gathering soundtrack was the same sorry for your loss
Avatar 9:45am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Sincere Condolences Bob.
Maybe Spring makes everything more active - including tragedy. I've been lucky avoiding tragedy I think - but as the years pile on - the losses have begun. :(
Court still seems a rich & flawless album - but I wonder if younger people could understand how startling & sardonic its impact was in the late 1960s - & for me on my brother's turntable in the early 1970s...
  9:46am Listener Robert:

Even playing 5-minute chess gets to be too much. The only way to revive the fun is to play some kind of fairy chess such as Knightmare Chess (Tempete sur L'echequier) that has luck elements and/or that nobody plays enough of to analyze deeply.
Avatar 9:47am Bob Brainen:

Hey Jeff, losing a child, that shouldn't happen to anyone. Glad the song was soothing.
Thank you prudy, ...nothing follows,

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48am Rich in Bay Ridge:

Thanks Bob. Great start to this show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48am adamdoesit:

I'm sorry for your loss, Bob. Thank you for the rememberance. I'm no good for chess, either. I find it emotionally exhausting.
Avatar 9:48am wmfromdumont:

Weed/King Crimson and playing Chess. Whoah. Cheers, George.
  9:50am prudy:

Wow..playing chess high as kites...I couldn't play chess sober....
Avatar 9:51am Bob Brainen:

wmfromdumont, yeah crazy combo. Of course weed went with ~everything~ in those days, and we were 17-18-19.
Hey Rich in Bay Ridge, thanks!
  9:51am Listener Robert:

Is "You Only Live Twice" just a rewriting of the lyrics to this?
  9:52am Barbara in PA:

The second album I ever bought. I'd forgotten how sweet-sounding this song is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am PaulRobeson1920:

It’s going to be alright. baby
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am Rich in Bay Ridge:

This just sounds so great blasting from my speakers.
  9:53am Listener Robert:

Playing Chess, as opposed to chess, isn't so taxing!
Avatar 9:54am wmfromdumont:

Yet another tagout that could go on forever.
Avatar 9:54am Bob Brainen:

Listener Robert, too deep to ponder...like Chess!
Barbara in PA, a good choice.

  10:04am Dennis Diken:

The Smiley Smile version of “Wind Chimes” is truly sublime

Avatar 10:35am Lisboner Pascal (France):

Hello hello! First time listening to this show, it's been just totally marvellous. How WFMU keeps throwing up brilliant new shows I've never heard of like some endless vomit sea of goodness. And how about that Muriel Winston track!? Wow!!

All the best from Arles, thanks a lot x
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am watchpocket:

Oh OK whatever works. Once you played "Schizoid Man" I was officially awake for the day.
Avatar 10:37am Bob Brainen:

Lisboner Pascal (France) Thank you, glad you found the show!
Watch, yeah it woiks...but it took a LOT of learnin!!
Avatar 10:42am StringOFperils:

Absolutely love NY Tendaberry, forever and ever. <3
Avatar 10:43am wmfromdumont:

My fave Nyro album.
  10:44am Kpx:

I just said that cuz some 20/25 years ago I heard bob play that and he commented how don Grady was on the cover trying to look all anonymous with his sunglasses on and his collar turned up.
  10:44am Jeff:

Baby, let’s swing
Avatar 10:45am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Nyro just such an amazing confluence of construct & soul. Perfect for just missing the Charts (when not being Covered) - but becoming a Cult idol.
Avatar 10:46am Bob Brainen:

I corrected Nyro song title.
Dang auto-incorrect!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49am watchpocket:

(Asked 'cause you said Ruth walked into the studio or some such. Cool headfake there.)
  10:49am Madeline Rhum:

HI Bob, Thank you for another fantastic show full of wonderful music and also full of true heart. My condolences for your losses. How we miss those we loved and that longing to have them back again never really goes away. We hold them dear forever. Thanks also for the King Crimson. It took me back to my childhood in NJ and hearing my big brother play that album over and over again. We are estranged now but I always feel grateful for how he opened my ears to so much good music. Thank you, Bob, for always doing that for your me and your many devoted listeners.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49am watchpocket:

I'm of the opinion that auto-correct does more harm than good, but hey that's just me.
Avatar 10:50am Bob Brainen:

watchpocket, no, my cat Ruthie walked in! Funny! auto correct is tricky.
Avatar 10:50am wmfromdumont:

Timer is on NYT?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am watchpocket:

What Madeline said, very eloquently, no less!
  10:53am Dennis Diken:

methinks this Ben Casey theme inspired Joe Jackson’s “Steppin’ Out”

Avatar 10:56am Andrew in Toronto:

Thanks again Bob for your musical and spiritual enlightenment.
Let`s hope everyone meets here next week.
Avatar 10:56am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I believe it was Al & Zoot recorded w/ Kerouac - as they were reportedly faves of his.
Avatar 10:56am wmfromdumont:

Ok. Mind Blown!
  10:57am Jeff:

Thanks for another wonderful show, Bob!
Take care of yourself
  10:58am goyim in the am:

That commercial ran on DC TV well into the eighties.
Avatar 10:59am StringOFperils:

Many thanks, Mr. B !! ♂, ♀, ✳, †, ∞
  10:59am CalZone!:

Another wonderful show in the books! Thanks Bob!
  10:59am Kpx:

Here's a little fact blurb, Davy Jones did an episode of Ben Casey before he was a monkee. He played the part of an addicted glue sniffer. Speaking of being a monkey, I don't need the help of autocorrect to make me look like a illiterate one. I do that well enough on my own.
  11:00am (Mr) Bill:

Fabulous show. The Laura Nyro song that was played is "Timer" from "Eli and the Thirteenth Confession," not "Time and Love" from "NY Tendaberry."
Avatar 11:00am Bob Brainen:

Thanks all, be good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00am PaulRobeson1920:
